Russian tradition. Used in war in afghanistan and for cleaning up chernobyl

Poltava is a well known town in Sweden, when we Swedes fought our existential war against Russia there in 1709. Its sad that Ukraine once again is a battlefield. I hope the international community do what it can to save the people in Mariupol. But I am personally pessimistic that the combined might of the western world can do much. I hope I am wrong, but as a pessimist I prefer to have low expectations here in life so I don't suffer dissapointments. Regardless the soldiers who fought there will be remembered as national heroes. Putins deliberate murder of 100.000 civlians at Mariupol will forever stains his regimes reputation. As a Swede I am happy to assist Ukraine with weapons. We were allies against Russia back in 1709, so it feels good to help you like you helped us. Team blue and yellow should always stick togheter as Zelensky said. I hopefully will Russia be kicked out soon as the Ukrainian army is brave and very skillful and is hammering the Russians very hard. I hope Putin feels endless pains from his cancer and that he dies as soon as possible so this stupid pointless war can be over.

There was a record amount of people at the town square in Stockholm protesting against the war yesterday. So there is strong public support for more aid to Ukraine. As soon as Sweden joins Nato I believe that Gripen will be sent to Ukraine.

Zelensky have started to get wrinkles already after 2 years. I mean most American presidents gets grey hair after 4-8 years in office. But being Ukrainian president in times of war seems like an even more exhausting job. I can now understand if he carries cargo pants and a pullover, because if I was in his shoes I would also think there would be better things to care about. He have certainly sacrificed a lot for his nation. His time, his health, all stress, multiple assassination attempts by the nazi-russians. Of course are there those who sacrifice even more and died for their country. But that does not take away anything from Zelenskys greatness

I want Ukraine to win because I want good to win over evil. Genocide and wars of aggression. I also rather see democracy and freedom expand over the world, than dictatorship and tyranny. I want a world based on the principles of the Westphalian peace, rather than having a new rules based order where might makes right, and where landgrabs are the new normal, and where borders are redrawn with the sword.

@classifiedveteran9879 But russia is not a super power. Its an economic midget with a population too tiny to qualify into this club.

I think this tape feels irrelevant if it is true or not. Because nothing interesting was said there. The security leak is a sign of German weakness and naivity, and how people that are not living next to russia and having communism in fresh memory are a bit damaged by decades of peace and have become naive and takes too lightly on security risks. But with all that said can I only say that the Germans are not alone. The recent security leak in USA by a young national guardsman shows this. And we Swedes are just the same with Kremlin spying on us with 2 Iranian men, and letting fake enviromentalists from russia write papers for our Swedish universities and push for closing down areas for military training for enviromental reasons or banning certain chemichals for the sake of the enviroment and such... but the real hidden agenda is to weaken Swedens military and have nothing to do with protecting birds from loud artillery bangs or martime animals from loud noises from boat engines. If people care much about the enviroment, I believe that they would rather focus their time and energy on other more relevant issues...

Well trump lost the last election

This party have a party leader that says "we cannot give endless amounts of support to Ukraine" which goes against Sweden political consensus of helping Ukraine, as is a pro-russian viewpoint consistent with pro-russian populist parties on continental Europe and America. So this viewpoint is fundamentally unswedish. This party also held a member who repeatedly burned Qurans to make the middle east hostile towards Sweden and threatening with terrorist attacks because of this. And it would not surprise me if this thing was also put into action by russian FSB as a way to damage Swedens reputation and sabotage Swedens entry into Nato and compromise Swedens national security. So to me are the Sweden democrats the most Putin friendly party inside the Swedish parliament. It is - at least as far as I know, at least verbally supporting Ukraine. Anything else would be political suicide in a country where 98% of the population supports Ukraine. But I fear tendencies that this party wants to move its political viewpoints closer to those of those of populist parties in other western countries. Personally I hate this idea. We should not have that dumb foreign garbage imported into Sweden. The religious idiocy of the Republicans and Orban and their obsession with abortion can they keep for themselves. And pro-putinism and obsession about culture war nonsense is also something that the German populists can keep for themselves. Swedens should go our own way and do what is right. That is what makes us strong. That gaves us our ecnomic wonder, our top notch military industry, and this is an old tradition that has served us well. Like the Brits did we adopt protestantism and never fully engaged with continental Europe, which is perhaps why continental European ideas like fascism and Communism has never appealed to us.

@Vladimir Fomin They have Scandinavian blood in their veins. Putin says that they are Russians. But that is not any more true than that they are Swedes. With Putins own logic can one say that both Russia and Ukraine should belong to Sweden because it is our "historic lands" since back of the days of the Kyiv-Rus empire that was founded and ruled by Swedish vikings. If you think this idea sounds insane, then you must also think that Putins view is insane for the same reason. I for my part recognize that Ukraine is an old country with very long historical roots - it is a country with a longer history than Russia.

Feels like its 1945 and FDR dies and the next US president decides to join the Axis despite their military is nearly utterly destroyed. Churchill spits in his tea when he hears Truman joining the Axis and ready to flip the table with US nukes and military power. Britain, China and Russia are extremely exhausted, broke and have lost much manpower. Hitler sends a few leading nazis to Switzerland for negotiations, he is skeptical but he is also desperate and feels like he got nothing left to lose. As a goodwill gesture do Truman unlock all frozen German assets and stop tracking all German spies in America. And he stops all military aid to the allies. People back home and are upset and protesting, while some isolationists applaud the decision, and some who thinks that russia is the real enemy are happy. The Polish exile government protests the many decisions taken by the president: "we want our land back, they have killed 20% of our population, destroyed entire cities, systematically murdered all our intellectuals... and now you decide to side with the aggressor?" And Trumpman responds that he wants peace and that all killing needs to stop. If everyone just lay down their weapons and let Hitler win there will be peace.

Swedish vikings founded both Ukraine and Russia, with the creation of the Kingdom Kyiv-Rus. Ukraine is having its old democratic traditions and brave viking blood in it. While mother Russia is the ugly child that Mother Svea wish that she never had given birth to. Russia have always been barbaric, authoritarian, undemocratic, warmongering, and opressive.
4
@Kerberos "Nah Russia and Ukraine is the exact same." The Ukrainian language got more in common with Belarussian and Polish than with Russian. "Since the ukrainian part was always weak they were controlled constantly by Russia and the Mongols." Still totally irrelevant for the discussion. Sweden controlled Finland for 800 years. But did that magically turn Finns into Swedes? I bet most Finns don't think so. Same goes for Ukraine. Just because a people have been living under the rule of a foreign power a long time does not mean that the etnical group automatically cease to exist. The Ukrainians still see themselves as Ukrainians and not as Russians. Even Russian speaking Ukrainians see themselves as Ukrainians.
4
Maybe we can just skip helping USA when it needs help then, as a security guarantee according to rightwing populists is just option and not a word of honour. The Budapest agreement and article 5 means nothing they say. We can save our own tax money by just sitting idle while dictatorships murder innocent people and create a world order based on power instead of justifce. Maybe we need to spend money on some other bullsh*t like immigration, enviromentalism or whatever instead of helping our allies. That is what MAGA stands for these days.

Russians forget all 9 years before Poltava when Russia got their asses kicked around by heavily outnumbered Swedish forces time and time again, at the Narva, Jakobstadt, Saladen, Kliszow, Fraustadt, Holowczyn and elsewhere. To them history only began in 1709 with the battle of Poltava. Just like World war 2 began with the German invasion of Russia in 1941 🙄
3
@SqueakyWheelMakesNoise bien sûr ils parlent de Putain, qui d'autre ? 🙄
3
It was russia that invaded Sweden and not the other way around. Sweden fought a defensive war against its neighbours. Sweden did beat russia in like 19 battles but lost 1 battle at Poltava. But Z clowns likes to forget all such things. They live in an alternative fantasy world made up of propaganda. I see this in this comment here.
3
That Napkin was stupid then. Ethno-nationalism, imperialism and fascism = Putinism Zelensky is the opposite. He do not think one ethnic groups is better than another. As a russian speaking Ukrainian he did try to unify the country of Ukrainian and Russian speakers. He have a strong belief in democracy. And he do think Ukraine should have the right to independence and self-determination instead of being just a province in a big empire living under the shackles of a totalitarian opressive dictatorship.

3 times more explosives in one such grenade than in a russian hand grenade

@Kerberos "I know for a fact no one had problem accepting history until the war started." Now the Swedish Putin spirit comes inside me and starts to wonder a few things... Why can't you just accept that Russia is just a made up fake country? You Russians are just confused Swedes. We got separated and grew apart. You need to embrace your roots and let yourself be ruled by Scandinavian Kings again. Just like the good old days of Kyiv-Rus. "What your talking about took 100s of years to change." The Ukrainian people have existed for a long time. And their want for independence is an old thing. Ivan Mazepa wanted Ukraine to break free from Russia 300 years ago. And we Swedes helped Ukraine fight for their independence. But their struggle eventually got crushed by Tsar Peter. So your claim that this is a new thing is just total nonsense. Its just ignorance of history. And Mazepa is not the only independence fighter in Ukrainian history either. They also wanted to break free from Polish rule, when their country laid under the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth. Indeed the Ukrainian national anthem named "Shche ne vmerla Ukrainy i slava, i volia" ('The glory and freedom of Ukraine has not yet perished) was written back in the 1860s. So the Ukrainian wish for independence is far older than 100 years.
2
"Russia" got its name from "Rus". And the "Rus' people" was the name people gave to the Swedish vikings coming from Roslagen (which is an area north of Stockholm). So Russia got its name from Swedish vikings. That proves that Russia should belong to Sweden and that it is Swedish historic lands.
2
I don't like Putin, but in this case I think I have to take his side. I think he refers to the province of Ingria that Sweden managed to conquer from Russia in a war in 1610 when Swedish armies managed to conquer Moscow and force a favorable peace treaty for itself, and the Swedes even managed to force the Russians to agree to letting the Kings younger brother Filip to become the new Tsar of Russia. But the boy was too young and he did not want to move to Russia and his mother fought hard to protect him from moving to Russia to get murdered like all other Tsars in brutal barbaric 1600s Russia. Anyhow Peter the Greats wargoal was to take back the provinces Ingria and Kexholm from Sweden. He also decided to steal Estonia from Sweden, which was not Russian land. Estonia had volunteered to join the Swedish empire in 1560 to get protection against Danish, Polish, and Russian agression. In Estonias history was Swedish rule the happiest point in their history. It was a time when they were allowed much independence. While the period before that (under the Teutonic Knights) and the period after Swedish rule (when they were under Russian occupation) is remembered as long hundred years periods of hard opression.

Because all wars consume gigantic amounts of ammunition and politicians always underestimate how much ammunition a modern war needs. In Vietnam did it on average take somewhere between 200,000 and 600.000 shots just to kill one enemy soldier for the Americans (source: Forward into battle - by Paddy Griffith). Now we have the biggest war in Europe since world war 2. So of course will ammunition consumtion be enormous. And especially so when you fight against one of the largest armies in the world. Russia have lost gigantic amounts of tanks and vehicles. So the Ukrainians have been using the weapons very effective and resourceful. When battles are intensive will ammunition consumption become gigantic. The German 6th army at Stalingrad every day needed 17 railway wagons with small arm ammunition for their machine guns, pistols and rifles. And that is just some of the weapons they used. The Germans also needed gigantic amounts of ammunition for their field guns, howitzers, tanks and airplanes. So as you see are ammunition consumption enormous. And putting weapons into the hands of 900.000 Ukrainians in just one month is not possible without foreign help. Much old soviet weapons are used, but more modern and better western weapons also needs to be used.
2
In Sweden you will see Ukrainian flags in front of all the museums in Stockholm. People have an Ukrainian flag on their facebook profile. For me its not about virtue signaling. I want Ukrainians to know that we back them up. And I like to piss off the Russians by stubbornly carrying that flag and thereby see all my contempt for Putin.
2
Every Russian killed in Ukraine is a Russian we don't have to kill ourselves. I happily send away stocks of old weapons. They were built to kill Russians during the cold war, so why not just give them away to Ukraine to teach Russia a lesson that their aggression should not be tolerated? Just throwing away weapons without using them just look like a sad waste to me. Its better to get some good will from foreign governments. Punching back Russian aggression. Defend democracy and freedom. And get Ukraines resources to serve Europe, instead of letting them fall into hand of Putin so he can get more power to blackmail and bully Europe.
2
Poor Putin did hurt his arm when he tried to punch an innocent guy in his face. Poor Putin. Its the other guys fault that Putin did hurt him arm. Its not Putins fault that he felt like he had a punchable face.

S-300 and S-400 is garbage. It didn't prevent Mordor from losing the cruiser Moskva. They didn't manage to protect Engels airforce base from a 50 year old slow flying drone that was a big target and easy to hit that was flying for over an hour over Mordor's territory. And nor could you protect all officers in the black sea fleet from getting taken out in a drone strike. Orc tanks are so good that you have already lost 6000 of them. Mordors air force greatly outnumbers the Ukrainian one and but yet it have for two years failed to gain air superiority or doing anything useful with the superiority in numbers over the skies. Mordors artillery is crap with less range, less precision, longer reload time, more unreliable ammunition that often fails to detonate, and the time to go from moving to shooting is also longer than the Nato counter parts.
2
So you say that Finland should not exist and belong to Sweden?
2
I support Ukraines Nato membership. But an EU membership is just a mistake in my opinion. I think the ukrainian people should vote about if they want to join those clubs after the war. Because in the end should it be the Ukrainian people who decides Ukraines fate, and not the EU, not russia and not even the ruling class of Ukraine that should decide that, but the people.

Russian artillery doctrine might have been wise back in the 1940s but not today. This gun got better range - which means it can shot at russian artillery without the russian guns have the range to fire back at it. The russian guns are also inaccurate, takes a long time to reload, have low quality ammunition, and they are not easy to move around. And when your precision is so bad do you need to fire large amounts of ammunition to hit a target - and that means more problems with getting enough military trucks that carry ammunition to the frontline. And the risk of getting killed is higher with the short range russian guns that needs to sit close to the frontline to be able to hit something. Russian artillery doctrine has failed. Compared BM-21 to HIMARS. Himars can reload fast and hit targets extremely far away is guaranteed to hit a target within a 4 meter circle from it. And the explosion is so powerful that even if it miss with 4 meters will the targe be killed. But BM21 needs an extremely long reload and its rockets will land somewhere within 250 meters of the target. So even with a huge rocket barrage could the losses on the enemy side be very low because the weapon is so inaccurate.

Leopard 2 tanks, Archer artillery, Combat Vehicle 90... sounds like a pretty damn powerful force
2
USA have decided to give 1 million shells as well. And then you got many other non-EU countries helping Ukraine - UK, Norway, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Canada, New Zealand. Plus that ammunition are also bought from arab countries and sent to Ukraine.
2
Russia is a North Korean puppet state that is fighting a proxy war for the Koreans to the last russian soldier. Every day is russia begging for more weapons from North Korea, Iran and Belarus.
2
Tell that to Putin.
2
Training takes time. And time was wasted at the start of this war. And I guess governments were not really honest with how long it would take to train pilots on those planes. But hey, it is a war going on and our governments do not need to tell the russians everything about our F16 program
2
Livland was never part of Russia. It was a Polish province before Sweden took it over.

@JohnSmith-jf3pj Many newspapers have speculated about his bad health the last two years. And here you got one video doing the same https://youtu.be/FqvOl2QGeDY It is suspected that he tyroid cancer - a cancer which is not so deadly as about 90% of people manage to survive 5 years with the disease (compare that to lung cancer that kills 80%). It is also suspected that he got Parkinsons disease that can make arms and legs shaking without control and make the movement of the body hard to control, and it can also become clumsy and slow. In this video you can see Putin leg shake and he seems to hold his hand with a hard grip on the table as if he tries to keep his arm under control https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8q0H3-8Tw0 Putins style of walking is also strange as he does not swing both arms as he walks, but instead is his right arm always a bit unmoveable. Putins sometimes swollen face can also be caused by side effects from cancer and parkinson medication. So how severe could those illnesses be? They are making life very shitty for those who have it. Tyroid cancer is not a so dangerous form of cancer as far as I know, and one can get rid of the cancer by removing the tyroid. However, if the cancer had begun to spread to other parts of the body it can often mean that the game is over, and the person dies.

Dicipline falls apart if the troops are not allowed to plunder to become happy... And dicipline falls apart if the "soldiers" starts to focus more on plundering and stealing booze to get drunk rather than focusing on fighting a war. Ukrainian troops should when they retreat leave Sergei and Boris their own vodka bottle as a gift. Soon they will start to drink and drive off the road, pass out, and getting a headache, vomit and getting a hangover and being too sleepy to fight back against a Ukrainian counter attack.
2
From now on are time ticking in Ukraines favor. Only Trump can save Putin from losing this war now. And I don't think that Trump will win the next election. However there are a few minor things that can cause some turbolence. The elections in Germany might cause problems if AfD win some states. And the EU parliament election has always historically shown a trend of far right parties gaining more and more support, while the left goes backwards. So that could cause some problems. However as long member countries stands behind Ukraine will this not cause any problems. Remember, this 7 billion military package given to Ukraine came from Sweden and not the EU. This shows that countries in the EU can help Ukraine even when the EU itself is useless and aid is being blocked by Hungary. One should also remember that the EU parliament is not a real parliament, because EU is not a democracy. The parliament cannot create any laws on its own, like you see in parliaments in democratic countries around the world. Most of the power in the do instead lay in the Commission. The 2nd most powerful institution is the council of ministers. And the 3rd most powerful institution is the EU parliament, which is mostly just playing the role as an useless middlemen between decisions taken in the commision that are later on sent to the parliament, and then changed and takes its final form in the council of ministers that could change every decision made by the EU parliament as much as they like. They even can do the total opposite of what the parliament wants, and then have the final word of each issue. So even if Le Pen, Orban, AfD and such people win the EU election I would not think that this would change the situation that much.
1
They pay with their blood to defend the west. The least the west can do is to send weapons and pay for the reconstruction of the country until Russia can be forced to foot the bill.
1
As a Swedish nationalist I condemn the Putin loving AfD clowns, Le Pen and Orban.
1
Why did Russia appoint an economist as a minister of "defence" (I mean the minister of wars of aggression)? is it because they are beginning to run low on cash?
1

My feeling is that Elon Musk and Kissinger are just test balloons to see public opinion if west wants peace or not. I for my part do not think that making peace with Putain is realistic. He should have gained nothing from this war. The symbolism here is very important. Maybe Ukraine will be too weak to completly throw the Russians out (but personally I think that Ukraine can win with enough support). The best outcome is a peace where all stolen land is retaken - including Crimea. And then can Russia just settle with a peace of borders of 2014. Sadly do I think that most Russian war criminals will go unpunished and that war reparations will never come. But one can always dream of a more fair and just world... But as Putin is burning his bridges with his Putain-lover countries in Europe, and as he shots himself in the foot by proloning this war.. he is putting the west more and more into a corner where it have no other choice than to give Ukraine all the military aid that Ukraine needs to end this war quickly on favorable terms. So Putain can play his silly game all he wants. But it does not seem like he have any chance of winning now no matter what he choses to do. Ending the war this week and taking home all troops would be the best solution for everyone, and especially for Russia self I guess, since I assume they do not want all vehicles in the Russian army to be destroyed.
1
Ukraine needs reconconstruction money and defence pact guarantees which they currently doesn't seem able to get from nato
1
They thought they were safe. Russia had promised to never attack Ukraine if they gave up their nuclear arms in the Budapest agreement. It turns out that Russia lied. Like Russians always lie. Russia invaded Ukraine anyways. And the guarantees they have given are worthless. So now is joining a military alliance with western countries the only option left. Nordic countries also realize that Russian promises are worthless shit. They promised to let Scandinavia be a nuclear weapon free zone. But they lied about that too. So f this rotten country. Lets sanction Russia to death. I happily give away weapons for free to Ukraine.
1
Prove it.

It was dumb, dangerous and short-sighted to feed the bear. This war is the result of continental Europes overreliance on Russian gas.
