Best news of the day - and they really hammered the message home. They are addressing not just Trump's appeal, but the Supreme Court too.

It reminds us of a more civilised time, before politics was about hate and division.
22
I'm not laughing.

Where's the Blacks For Trump guy? They used to have him at all the rallies.

@tonioceros I know technically you can, but that won't make you part of the country in the eyes of many of the natives. To give a rather extreme but real example, if I took Japanese citizenship, after renouncing my own, I would technically be Japanese. Would anyone, either in Japan or outside, consider me to be Japanese? Of course not. On a lesser scale, this is true in other countries. For example, it is quite common for Indians living overseas to renounce their citizenship to seek the nationality of other countries. I know Indians who have done this, but they don't for a second believe that they are anything other than Indian.

@cidweinberg in the Gettysburg video, none of the look like journalists, more like people taken from a local bar with the offer of free drinks. All are looking in different directions and none at Trump. It is very weird.
8
@brianwelch1579 but at least he said it and people who saw him approved. What Trump and fellow travellers say is hateful.
8
Is that irony in an Alanis Morissette sense?
6
You might be right. While we sometimes make slips with names, the reference to Obama being Biden's boss suggests he has forgotten that Biden is president.
5
@gretamurphy3704 but unlike Trump's core base, they are repelled by his authoritarian inclinations.
5
He certainly doesn't "serve".
4
@rebeccaashton5390 perhaps he's been to Britain on vacation and had brought back a pound sterling with him.
4
Yet despite having a clearly corrupt Supreme Court in power, everyone is still respecting its decisions. It's rime for more radical action - respect needs to be earned and it only has power through consent.

"Folks, if I went to prison—big if, believe me—I’d be the best inmate they’ve ever seen. Nobody would handle it better than me. I’d have the most tremendous cell, everyone would want to trade with me. I'd be a leader in there, running things smoothly. The guards? They’d love me. And playing the pink trombone? Let me tell you, I’d be amazing—people would say, “Wow, he’s got a real gift.” Nobody plays like me. They’d call it the greatest performance ever seen in a prison. Just remember, even behind bars, I’d still be winning—like always!"

@MOS650 take a look at the characteristics of Fascism. Trump doesn't check every box - he isn't militaristic or believe that the economy should revolve around the state, but a lot he does. Umberto Eco's characteristics of Fascism is a good place to start v

@elpatudo3670 at gunpoint? Don't be so melodramatic.
3
@stefanjakubowski8222 don't be so hard on yourself! Your name isn't "American" enough to be a Russian troll. The Russian trolls usually select Anglo names that appeal to MAGA sympathisers.
3
@stefanjakubowski8222 - didn't think you were a troll even if you shared some of the characteristics. Your account is too old and as mentioned, your name.
3
@stefanjakubowski8222 and I think I may even have misinterpreted your initial comment on this thread!
3
@kellyd1648 you mean TRUMP 20 - 24 YEARS
3
The legal process moves at a glacial pace

It's not just shame. I'm old enough to remember the cold war, but even then when people spoke regularly of nuclear armaggedon, I did not feel that the world was at a dangerous point as I do today. The chances of a multinational hot war in Europe have now significantly increased and if it does, the USA will inevitably be dragged into it.
3
Michael Cohen has already been convicted for the same offense in the same case and he did time. Of course Trump will have to go to prison if convicted.
2
This is why the far right keep saying that the US isn't a democracy, but a "constitutional republic." They want to undermine and remove democracy.
2
Trump is an evil fascist.
2
@ILovePancakes24Of course he can if he wins - he can just order the Federal case to be dismissed. Or rather get his AG to do it.
2
@soltkiote7785 it's actually a year old, but yes, it has many of the signs of being a troll account. The one difference is the name - most of the Russian troll accounts go with two bland "American" names.
2
@stefanjakubowski8222 I'm a Catholic too, but like the current president, and able to separate things. I'm also an atheist, so that makes things even easier when it comes to abortion
2
@MossyMozart as a collective, it is out of control
2
@dumpthefraud 2 month old troll account
2
This will go nowhere. And even if they decided to move ahead, it would be years before anything happened.
2
Nelson Mandela worked towards an armed insurrection against the South African government, so in that aspect, theye are some similarities.
2
@cpk8636-8 same comment three times. New account. Just a bot.
2
@dougmiller4251 very good
2
Jen Psaki, as we say in Britain, is thinking man’s crumpet
2
@parsonj39 - a document written by slave owners were hardly going to put in a bit about all men being equal.
2
@EeJLP all the immigrants were looked after and now in humane conditions with the basic comforts. Exactly what they need while their applications are considered. Contrast this to the deceitful DeSantis and his goons.
2
Don't say that - that'll make him unfit to stand trial.
2
Trump hires principally on looks rather than ability
2
In the UK every ballot is hand counted and there has never been any suggestion that it is a weakness in the system, and the general election result is always known by the following morning.
2
@janc8199 they will all end up back in Florida because that's where they want to live.
2
It's Garland's fault - he did nothing until the Jan 6 committee shamed him into it. Jack Smith has basically gone as fast as he can.
2
No surprise she is talking to a religious cult.
1
For them, the Trump cause is so important that the truth is secondary, and democracy is an obstacle to power, not a route to power.
1
Also from the UK. No one questions the need for independent monitors and an apolitical election body. But in the US it would be filled with political appointees, just like the Supreme Court. Also, it would be against the Constitution, I think.
1
Too late, way too late. Garland squandered his chance by doing nothing for two years.
1
Imagine if it was leaked that the SC was going to reverse a second amendment interpretation and link gun ownership directly to being a member of a well-regulated militia. Would the story for the Republicans still be about the leaker? If course not.
1
This is a coup is slow motion. The fact that anyone could file these in the hope that a court would give any of these the time of day shows how bad things are.
1
@SeanPat1001 - to win a US presidential election, you don't need to win a national election, you need to win a handful of swing states. This means that the election is much more open to corruption, hence Trump's demand to "find" 11,000+ votes, or the greenbay sweep fraud. I am unaware of any suggestion that the French presidential election is more open to fraud.
1
I can't imagine a single parent would have wanted him there.
