@simonw1313 people don’t understand this because they only see the instances where there was a delay in investigating and then there was a bad outcome. No one sees the tens of thousands of “missing people” that resolve themselves by just waiting a few hours. It’s definitely a problem and as a former cop I remember clearly that we investigated immediately in cases where the evidence seemed like something sketchy happened, but that took a backseat to other more life/death calls that had to be dealt with - like domestics violence, robberies, fatality car wrecks, shootings, etc. It’s simply a matter of having enuff resources to send out a detective every single time - but then again, most issues with law enforcement come down to lack of time/money to train effectively, but hood equipment, deploy officers every time you’d like to, etc.
People that have never done the job forget cops are just real people at work with the constraints that every other human has of time , money, resources
