  2. That's the thing about MREs---my husband picked up a few, and they basically all tasted like napalm to me. Heavily salted, perhaps? I felt sorry for our boys in uniform.

  4. They're not bad. My son gave me bites of his. Found it better than the old US MREs I couldn't eat.

  5. My son came home with Russian rations. The strawberry drink and the brain pâté were OK. Barely.

  7. In a first-person account called Nam , the GIs said that the K-ration grape juice was an excellent laxative, and the peanut butter an excellent substitute for Imodium.

  8. I think those were the MREs I tried--the first run. They all tasted like chemicals. Inedible.

  9. Strangest thing I ever ate were survival crackers from an old fallout shelter. They looked like white graham crackers and were utterly tasteless. I'll bet rats would ignore them.
