  1. This nuclear saber-rattling is such a drag. My dad was a volunteer in 1955 for an above-ground bomb test that Mom was able to watch live on NBC.

  2.  @patrickglaser1560  Almost! He was in a tank, then had to attack a hill near the detonation tower . . . then march right up to the stump of the vaporized tower. It was the test shot that yielded all the footage of houses and mannequins being destroyed. He lived another 64 years, after that, unlike the cowboy.

  3. ​ @tooitchy Not to mention that schools were commonly also fallout shelters. I remember playing at recess, seeing those metal signs with the nuclear trefoil on them bolted to the bricks.
