The economy has been anemic where I live since the late 1970s, and the boom years of the late 80s and 90s were never all that good here in the real world, thanks to the extreme financialization of the economy. From the perspective of the Rust Belt, the economy has basically been turning to shit since about 1972. Most of the growth has been elaboration of abstractions, with McJobs for all but a few. Trump's economy is an improvement on that, if only for his zest for removing senseless regulations.
