A classmate was hospitalized, and my nephew, brother-in-law and future husband had to take Rifampin for a year, along with dozens of others in the town. And that outbreak was the result of a legal immigrant from SE Asia.

  2. Having been of the activist, bleeding heart persuasion in my youth, I KNOW that most of the weeping masses don't care much at all about the actual affected children. It's far more important to flaunt your moral rectitude. It's far more important to slay dragons--even if the dragon is really just a garter snake or an anole.

  3.  DontBlameTheDog  They are suffering from First World problems and feeling vaguely guilty for their privilege, but their mistake is assuming that the rest of their fellow Americans have no real worries, either. Some seem to go even further and assume that Americans with food, money or basic security worries are somehow cursed or unworthy because they lack the very privileges that white, coastal liberals feel guilty about. They are so up their own asses! They badly need a reality check!

  13.  @usernamemeh81  Call a guy from São Paulo a "Latino" and he'll have a cow. I made that mistake once, and was told (in Portuguese) that he was no Mexican--just pure Iberian with Sephardic Jew in there, someplace. I guess in his mind, Latin or Latino meant Mestizo and Spanish-speaking, period.
