  2. Well, he was skeletal for a while, in end-stage CHF, walking around literally without a heartbeat, and LVAD cables and powerpack attached to his chest. He was almost dead 12 years ago.

  5. @pauljensen5699  He did a dozen years ago, before the transplant. It was an LVAD, a rotary pump that assisted his worn-out, flabby heart. He lacked a heartbeat, but could walk in a parade and everything.

  6. @pauljensen5699  The movie about him, Vice , has an opinion about that. He was in end-stage heart failure when he had the LVAD. A few years prior, he was still vice president and was showing up to photo ops with severe dependant edema. I'll never forget one photo of him in Green Bay, eating frozen custard, and you could tell that he had a pineapple-sized scrotum. CHF is ugly. But now he's got a heart 30 years younger than he is, and he's starting to look like a zombie, again.
