  1.  @godspeed6991  I guess you can tell yourself whatever you want in order not to feel bad about what you did to your boys, but please don't pass it off as authoritative medical advice. There is almost never a good reason to subject babies to the barbaric, pointless ritual that you subjected yours to.

  2. Yes, people are weirdly defensive about this. I am a nurse and quit my labor & delivery job because of the stubbornly high rate of circs being done. I refused to stand in on the procedures, and I counseled mothers on the lack of medical necessity. Still broke my heart to cover circ'd boys' wounds in thick petrolatum and gauze. They still cried hard when they wet their diapers. I said fuck this shit and specialized in something else.

  3.  @godspeed6991  Malarkey. I was a labor and delivery nurse. You're just spreading your rationalizations and anecdotal experience as general fact. I know one hell of a lot about this topic, professionally. And I didn't torture my son the way you tortured yours.

  4.  @violenceislife1987  Thanks. The hospital culture on not circumcising in my area has improved a lot in ten years, but without my help. I'm told that newer obstetricians and pediatricians have stopped recommending it so much. Another thing I hated about working Labor & Delivery around here had to do with delivering babies of Somali mothers, almost all of whom had suffered FGM. Frankly, what was between those Somali women's legs was a horror show that makes male circumcision look minor in comparison. We humans do the dumbest, most hideous things to children's genitals!

  7. Good for you! Me either, and my kid has managed fine having an intact foreskin among circumcised classmates. I was born in 1965 in the American Midwest, and absolutely all the boys got docked where I lived. As a nurse, I mostly see foreskin among very elderly men, born before WW II.

  11.  @eternalnemesis9522  Girls think a circumcised penis looks good and that foreskin is "nasty" if mostly what is familiar is the circumcised penis. It's just bias based on what they know. I'm personally anti'circ, but wonder if circumcised guys are missing very much at all. It's true that a clitoral or penile prepuce is very sensitive, but that sensitivity is mostly tactile, like the lips of a mouth, not sexual. On the other hand, I've seen tight c ircumcisions in which the frenulum seems to be messed up. Maybe that's what people mean? (Aside from keratinization of the glans penis)

  12. Apparently, exposure to semen helps loosen/elasticize phimotic and adhering foreskins. Delay washing after ejaculation.

  13.  @SparkZ009  Good for you. Was just passing on a bit of advice in general. You'd be surprised at how many boys get circumcised a little later on because people think that a baby's foreskin should retract right away (can take years, actually). They're told (wrongly) that their little boy has phimosis and ·SNIP·!!! This happened to my husband, who was circ'd at 3 or 4 months old, by the way. Fortunately, it was a modest procedure, and he still had most of his foreskin left.
