  1. My grandfather was 33 in the heart of the Great Depression and got through it with frugality and cash on the barrelhead. My parents carried no debt and had no credit cards. My own family followed suit. I remain flabbergasted by the people around me and all the shit they have.

  3. Make hay while the sun shines, then. Your wage will "shrink" as things get worse, even if you get a raise. I am in the same boat, by the way. Just got a $7/hr raise last year, as well, but they warned us that we will not get one every year.
