  1. The ONLY reason Minnesota was ever blue (unlike all other grain belt states) was because of its iron range in the northern part. Think of it as a concentrated Rust Belt constituency. They have basically flipped to Trump, and will definitely flip MN red next year. I was married to a "Ranger" and live nearby, and have been deeply involved in local Democratic party goings-on since 1988. You can bank on a red Minnesota. Take it from me.

  2.  Doctor Detroit  Well, Omar's district may be full of shitheads, but go further out in the 'burbs around the Twin Cities, the countryside, and the Iron Range, and you'll find voters willing to vote in their own financial best interests. Omar's district is the worst of it--like a bit of Marin County or Brooklyn transplanted onto the prairie. Even St. Paulites loathe whatever the fuck Minneapolis has pretensions of being.

  4.  @kaiseriv8483  Holy shit! I live near a Somali community and I swear they drive blindfolded. Can't even park in a straight line, much less drive in one. I've heard that some of the Somali taxistas also will not transport people who have been drinking. Religious issue, I guess.

  12.  @NAT-turners-Revenge  Yes, it does. But I'm also a Trump supporter and want nothing to do with the husk of the Democratic party--or the GOP for that matter. The union member Dems in St. Louis County, Minnesota, and environs are a weird case. Lots of relatively recently immigrated ethnic groups in an isolated part of the country. But what happened to Rust Belters happened to Iron Rangers earlier, and twice as hard. I think their retained ethnic traditions and recent immigration status made them vote Dem lockstep longer than the Rust Belt, and they are only now reacting. But I'm betting the reaction will be stronger than what took place in Wisconsin, my home state, in 2016. There will be a much bigger Trump margin of victory throughout Wisconsin next year, too.

  15. The Somalis making up 20% of a neighboring rural factory town are ok. No gang stuff that I've heard of, unlike in the Twin Cities, but they keep to themselves and don't mix with the rest of us, much. Go in one of their restaurants and service is shitty or they aren't open. And it's strange to see a mosque in among the Lutheran churches. After 20 years, the one real sign of their integration are all the half-Somali kids running around.

  16.  @Bob-jm8kl  The Wisconsin town near here got a big influx of Somali men in the Clinton years. Probably not enough Somali women to go around, at first. It seemed clear enough that the roly-poly local Christian girls were strictly Fun Zone.
