  1. The gas crisis of '79 halved my parents' tourism business, but they were frugal Depression kids, so they made it okay. I worked to buy my own clothes since age 12 and did not have a car until I saved up for one at 20. Worked my way through college, too. What gets me about the current economy is how much of a racket health care and post-secondary education are, now. At least those two things were fairly affordable the last time the economy was pure crap.

  3. My employer dropped insurance and made me sign up for Obama care. The website was a useless kludge, and when I finally got through it, it was horribly expensive. I was working to feed my family, and pay for my house, so I just went without insurance. Plot twist: I'm a registered nurse.
