  1. I am the age of Amy Carter, so I was a kid, too, back then. The economic outlook was always gloomy . . . to the extent that it influenced my choice of college majors. I wanted biochemistry but chose foreign language teaching, based on the jobs market in 1982. And where I lived, the jobs market was so bad tha5 I did not notice 5he Reagan recovery until 1987.
