  1. Do we NEED to reinvent capitalism? It is ingrained in our psyche, our primary driving force (well, monetary greed is second only to sexual horniness). It is what it is. It is what the United States are based on. Unbridled GREED! What we need to do is to REIN IN capitalism. Put a bridle on it, allow free enterprise to flourish without destroying everything in it's path, much like the Nordic countries have managed to do. But - you are the US of bloody A! Too big to fail! Any lesson learned by other nations, large or small, do not apply to you - what you are is an abject failure, you believe you are so big that you are doomed to fail at anything you try!

  2. Capitalism is useful, it encourages innovation and economic growth. It also self-eliminates thos two qualities! Trying to "re-invent" capitalism is a suicidal endeavour because capitalism is inherently self-destructive (re. all the boom/bust economic cycles of past centuries). The US is simply going from a recent boom to an impeding total bust these days. Unchained capitalism in a nutshell. SUICIDAL is the best description. The Nordic countries seem to have found a satisfactory middle ground with their mixed economies. Capitalism is allowed to flourish WITH LIMITATIONS! No "winner takes it all" or "greed is good" allowed. High-earners are severely taxed while average earners bear the brunt of the cost of running a safe society with good safety nets (affordable health care, education, parental leave, you name it) that make the Nordic countries the most content nations in the world. Most of Northern Europe is following a similar model. The US, with it's unchained capitalists, is in deep excrement - and sinking fast in said excrement! Whether the greedy US 1% are able to maintain this unsustainable nonsense for 1 year or 10 years is moot: Their orgy of greed WILL come to an end and by that time they will have nowhere to hide; They (and their heirs) are in for a world of hurt, if only because the rest of humanity is in for a world of hurt as well.
