I suspect the only reason the Democratic Party is not going mental over this is that they are too confident they will win this election and THEN they are itching to build on and utilize what Trump has been doing: The ability to use the full power of the US government and institutions to crush any opposition in the future, much like dictators like Putin, Erdogan and Luashenko have been doing. What is the difference between Republican and Corporate Democrat politicians? Negligible, both are totally owned by big corporations and the billionaires. The big unknown is the pandemic: It has brutally exposed the inadequacy of the US system and the inequalities forced upon the citizens. This is likely to be a game-changer, the vast majority of the population is in seriously dire straits and is likely to forcibly rise up and overthrow the parasites. In a country awash with more guns than citizens, that is bound to become really messy.

@Shadowkeeper1582 , unfortunately it will take a long time for AOC and other progressives to get many US Americans to to even begin to overcome the 40-year brainwashing that anything with the word "social" in it equals Soviet or Mao-China Communist Hell. One wonders if the phrase "physical distancing" had been used instead of "social distancing" (a blasphemous word, "social") this important tool to help control the pandemic might have been more palatable to right-wingers? Our best hope is that young US Americans are now motivated to participate by getting involved, they are generally far better informed about global affairs than their parents. The world cannot afford another destructive period like the the last 4 years, the US is so influential and important on the global stage that it would be a catastrophe.

@JoeyFiveandDimes , you are absolutely right, you got shafted by your post-war politicians. If you want this to change, you have to roll up your sleeves and elect different politicians. I'm not trying to tell you WHO to elect, that is entirely up to you, but do NOT be spooked by the word "socialist" in this context. In most European countries, we have mixed economies that are basically capitalistic, but reined in to the extent that the public is not left out. "Social democracy" or "democratic socialism" is NOT what Republicans and Corporate Democrats call "communism".

Watching 'Murican Talking Heads discuss something like the Turkmenistan "hellhole" is hilarious. The sheer ignorance is mind-blowing. The CO2 this burning methane source is emitting is only a fraction of the greenhouse-gas effect would be if the methane was escaping without being burned. Besides that, one wonders if 'Murican talking heads should be discussing child-rearing AT ALL! The most twisted children are being raised in the US - you are DEFINITELY doing something very wrong! Finally, the NZ sheep/cockroach story really took the cake. The fact that the antipodes mentioned the cockroach as a casualty, not a perpetrator, apparently blew the 'Murican talking head minds. There is something seriously wrong in in 'Murica!

An orange face while being pale around the eyes and neck (Francesca, go easy on the makeup, you do NOT need it!). What do Francesca and Trump NOT have in common? Francesca is pretty and intelligent while Trump is ugly, fat and dumb as a doorknob.

Quadir Mayo - the area where Las Vegas is now was, to the best of my knowledge, a desert. The absurdities of different federal and state laws are beyond me, but as far as I understand it, there was a legal black hole regarding gambling that the Mob used to the hilt. If not for that, Lase Vegas would still be a desert town...

@Robert Johnson, you are correct about the inevitability of wealth inequality, which exists in the Nordic countries (and tends to be on the rise, at lest until something is done about it - spelled: "contain the inevitable corruption"). The big difference between the US and the Nordic countries is that runaway inequality is allowed in the US while it is being contained in the Nordic countries. We tend to CARE about those less well off instead of only caring about our own individual arses.

Franceska's quip "I really want to duck under this entire election season" is a classic explanation why 'Murica is rapidly going down the drain: When declared activists like Francesca cannot even be bothered to vote, the writing is on the wall! I am not 'Murican, I live in one of the "socialist" Nordic countries, and I find Franceska's attitude beyond scary!

Too right - but let's not jump the gun! AOC has everything that a future leader of the new kind has to have BUT she is still learning the basics. Old Nancy Pelosi may be past her selling date BUT her expertise in political wheeling/dealing is what non-conservative politics needs right now. She knows how to manage the next year or two and is likely to run circles around Trump and his followers. Let's hope Pelosi will be able to gracefully back out when the imminent fight is won and the right time for sensible progressives has arrived. Unfortunately it is fairly certain that "corporate" Democrats (those just as corrupt and donor-weaned as current Republicans) will try to hang on to power like barnacles to a rock. The fight for the future of the general population of the US is just beginning. If a genuine democratic and socially conscious movement does not take over, the good old US is done for. The most frightening (but not unlikely) scenario in a nation awash with military-style weapons is another civil war.

I feel African-Americans are overly sensitive about the "N-word". Given their history in 'Murica, that is understandable. What I find a bit over the top is to blow a gasket when it is not directed at an individual but used in, perhaps, a generic historic context. I really KNOW that I am not really qualified to have an opinion about this, but I DO have an opinion, hence this comment. You see, I live in a small country with relatively few dark-skinned people of African origin. Most of them speak our language and are simply "one of us". The color of their skin is irrelevant. A few do not speak the language and are just considered visitors or recent immigrants - no big deal. We have very little history of colored people and thus only the usual handful of stupid bigots are prejudiced enough to cause problems. We do, however, have a significant number of Asian immigrants (mostly from Thailand) and if they are referred to as "Asians" there is no malice in it, it just a description - like calling someone "tall" or "short"

@flicks28 , yep - they failed miserably during the initial stages of the pandemic, especially with protecting their nursing homes, and that has stained all and any of their statistics from the start. At least they are not making any excuses and are facing the problem openly and head-on. Do not forget that Sweden is NOT a country that takes public health and safety lightly! To make mistakes is human, it is how we respond to mistakes that makes all the difference. I am absolutely certain that when this is all over, Sweden will NOT go down in history books as the "most miserable pandemic response failure" country. The US currently holds that spot, with Brazil and India as strong contenders...

@LarrysMachineShop , post-war US was the model North-European countries are built on. We adopted all the good bits and they have served us well. Sadly, the US lost it's way when Reagan was elected president and has forgotten WHY the US was once a great nation.

Well, the chopper-talk scenes with turbines-running-but-rotors-stationary is not necessarily wrong. The engines on many large helicopters can be started and run without engaging the rotor.

@8645-l4v , a very valid point. I suspect Marine One does not have an APU, it is a very solid but ancient model, but I simply do not know. The chopper-talk setting is, however, very well suited to the Trump script: He can ignore questions he does not like (pretending he did not hear them) and he can simply walk away any time he wants to. His rambling, jumping to another subject in the middle of a sentence, is very telling. This man is not all right in the head, and he is supposed to be the leader of "the free world"! Well, apparently the "free world" is about to move ahead, leaving the US behind...
