So, the US can persecute any individual of any nationality for "treason" wherever they are, for publishing leaked information about US atrocities and potential war crimes, regardless of whether that individual has any allegiance to the US or not. The US may feel free to wage war on any nation at a whim (or perhaps they just want to exploit that nation's resources), but that will surely backfire on them in the long term. No wonder disdain and distrust of the US is on the rise among adversaries and allies alike.

US America is utterly pathetic at the moment (other parts of the American continent are FAR better off, except perhaps Brazil. Canadian America is certainly MUCH better off!). I live in one of the Social-Democratic Nordic countries where voting is effortless (we are TRULY democratic, you see!) and voter participation is far, FAR higher that in the US. No voter suppression (while we have to suffer occasional pathetic and easily suppressed attempts at gerrymandering by our right-wing political elements). The US certainly USED to be a great nation until the advent of Ronald Bloody Reagan. After WW2, the US was a model democracy (primarily established by FDR?) that most of the North-European countries have been following in various flavors ever since, something the US completely abandoned 40 years ago when a misguided Hollywood actor was allowed to take the reins. Now you have an arguably insane Reality Show actor running the country into the ground, a pandemic running unchecked, riots in the streets, SA-like groups inciting violence while your Beloved Orange Leader is fanning the flames! Pathetic? I suspect the civil war of the 1860's was never fully concluded but is about to be resumed. Following the SA-like groups will come GESTAPO-like forces, culminating in SS-type institutions that will wreak havoc in the US before they are finally and brutally stamped out. ANY government trying to wage a shooting war on it's own citizens is doomed to fail. Putin does not dare to nor do the Chinese, they are wise enough to use covert oppression to suppress the population. Once the gloves come off, they ALWAYS come to a sticky end. Just ask the Russian Czars- if you find any...

  6. Over 10 years ago I spent a week in an ICU, in an induced coma. The following week, coming out of having had my brain pickled with drugs the previous week, I had a lot of ridiculous misconceptions and near-hallucinations that slowly faded away until I became normal again. I had a "Déjà vu" moment listening those reality-detached and deranged individuals.

While it is ridiculous to blame daily crime rates on whoever the sitting president is, it is near-certain that crime rates are directly linked to social inequality - just compare the crime rates in 'Murica, a country riddled with inequality, vs. crime rates in, say, the Nordic countries, where social equality is high. Seeing that e.g. unemployment rates and union participation actually HAVE measurably improved under Biden, it would be reasonable to expect crime rates to decrease to a degree that can actually be measured. To expect a dramatic decrease is not realistic, but how do we interpret the VERY noticeable recent reduction in crime rates where only barely measurable reductions would be expected? Is it possible that even modes reduction in social inequality could translate into significant reductions in crime rates? Any sane person would be likely to want to look into that possibility - which rules out Repugnicans, they DO NOT WANT reduced crime rates while Democrats are in power!

  9. When staff shortages in countless industries, from agriculture to service, start causing shortages, the inevitable result will be price increases! Meat, fruit and vegetables will become more expensive, and many small and large service companies (restaurants large and small, shopping chains and fast food chains will struggle and even have to close shop). What a wonderful treat Toddler Trump will be serving up for his stupid followers...

Needless to say, the plotters were right wingers in my country. Pretty soon after that I found out that the leftists and centrists were no better and I have found ALL politics disgusting ever since. Still, I consider my duty to vote in every single election, both local and country-wide, if only to try down-voting the current crooks and up-voting those that have not yet managed to become as crooked. A title that proposes a discussion about better heath care system but ends up wallowing in the hopeless quagmire of the US so-called "health care" system without even mentioning other ways of providing satisfactory health care is simply disgusting. Just about EVERY nation on Earth manages to provide more or less affordable health care to it's citizens - except the bloody US of A! Take a look at many countries in South America that the US has systematically destroyed financially - they are STILL able to provide more affordable health care to their citizens than the bloody US of A! The arrogant gits that pretend to be the only ones worthy of being called "Americans" should be put down and disdained by other western countries as being unworthy of being called a) a democracy, and b) being called a role model.

  19. As a non-'Murican I have always found it weird how certain terms and concepts are being thrown around in 'Murican media and politics, without ever delving into what they actually mean. "CRT" and "woke" have weirdly become bogeymen, something to fear and revile (like "communist", "fascist", "capitalist", "sadist" and whatnot), without most people having any idea what those terms actually mean! Spend a minute or two on Google and you find out that, in a nutshell, "CRT" (Critical Race Theory) is a University-level course in the history and legalities of racial injustices (to me, an old fart, CRT is STILL just a Cathode Ray Tube) and "woke" just means being aware of social injustices (an admirable trait, if there ever was one). I know 'Muricans are not stupid (they have proved otherwise in the past) but boy, have they become ignorant in recent decades!

  21. David, isn't this a bit turned on it's head? A vaccinated person is only unlikely to spread the disease by the simple expedient of being immune to catching it in the first place! When your initial vaccine dose kicks in (at least days after the event) you will be about 50% less likely to become infected (and then spread the bug to others). Following your second vaccine dose, you are supposedly 95% immune. You are almost certain NOT TO CATCH THE VIRUS and, as a result, will not be infecting others! This seems a classical case of 'what came first, the chicken or the egg?'

If the US does NOT hunt down, investigate, indict, sentence and imprison the offenders (and they are many), election tampering will become the new national sport.   23. The new 5-day isolation guideline is really symbolic, a surrender-in-disguise. Just think: What ratio of all truly asymptomatic-but-actually-infected people show up in official Covid tests? Only those that HAVE to be tested for some reason will be detected (and isolated), but I am certain that they are only a fraction of the real number. The infection explosion is probably out of control all over the world, but fortunately a combination of reduced severity and reasonable vaccination rates just might save us.

  28. Watching this is depressing - and I am not even a US American! The only time I REALLY had to use the health care system in my native country was when I contracted a severe pneumonia that almost killed me. 1 week in ICU in an induced coma and 2 weeks for recovery, ambulance from my local hospital to a bigger hospital and back again for final recovery. I did actually get a surprise bill for what amounts to about $10 (a private specialist that apparently was consulted during my coma). The rest was paid for by our tax-funded Universal Health Care System.

  39. In my country a blood test - ANY blood test - is what amounts to about U$15 at the point of service, similar to what David paid for the initial procedure of piercing a vein and drawing samples. All the lab work (and associated cost) is invisible to the user. Why so cheap? You see, in my country we SHARE the cost of health care and being sort of a single, HUGE customer, "we" are able to negotiate the actual cost of health care. In my country no one is allowed to become filthy rich by exploiting the health care system. We spend about 10% of GDP on health care while the US is spending over 17% of GDP. Who is skimming off 7% in the US? Some people need A LOT of health care services while others need virtually none for most of their lives and those that need little health care are sensible enough to count themselves lucky instead of resenting the fact that they might be "paying for other people". I wonder if the normal/sociopath ratio in my country is more favorable than in the US?

Apparently, whenever Trump has a setback (like now, when he has a more aggressive opponent), his brain starts to backfire and he starts mixing up people and events even more than on a normal day. The good news for democracy-minded 'Muricans is that it is almost certain that this will get progressively worse as the pressure mounts - and Trump's incompetence and failing mental state will get progressively worse! When that happens, he is likely to avoid prison (a neat trick, the insanity plea) - BUT he will end up in an asylum instead!
