This last week I started commenting on videos by 'WW2'. I've been asking for a collaboration with you Drach'. Indy and the team replied to my comments which I'm sure annoyed them a bit. Worth it if it means a video from my favourite history channels. Would you do a video with them? Please Pretty please... I take no pleasure in copy and pasting this onto the videos of yours that I'm re-watching. I take great pleasure in re-watching your videos! Thank you for the knowledge.

I'm not sure which one I watched first. But it was still text to speech! Maybe Sharnhorst?
1
Plus you could be picky and point out Britain had no "CVs" and never has had a single "CV" in service ;)
1
Contemporary military thinking. At the time it would have been crazy not to fit them
1
Not perfectly round. But yes. Well known designs. There are a number of guides on this channel about them.

In both wars no less. The impact on established social norms is not to be under estimated.

This comment wins the interweb Those who don't understand it, need to learn more. Now, if only the Germans understood toilet jokes. We may never have needed either war. 🤔

@Easy-Eight I don't see how that's comparable. Your all in one country. Comparing Southampton to Naples is comparing Dallas to Bueno Aires. Two different countries. Do citizens of America living in North Dakota pay for the same air force as citizens of America who live in Texas? Also. (This has probably changed due to the UK leaving the EU. But it applies to the EU and EEA etc). Countries in the EU do pay to assist the arts, cutlure, sciences and of course history and museums in other EU countries. Funds are allocated to points of special historical or scientific interest. While the UK voters decided to leave the EU (by a tiny margin. But we are a democracy and chose freely). I know of nobody before then who complained about money being spent on museums. But we shan't get into that. It's a political mess. I like my politics to end around 1950 lol. Ironically. I live in England. I'm English and I pay taxes in England. Some of that money funds the upkeep of Edinburgh castle. Which is in another country. It also payed for the millennium stadium in Cardiff (again in another country) and towards the Titanic museum at Harland and Wolff in Belfast, which is not only in another country. But a country that shares no land boarder with my country. I have no issue with any of that. I can travel without hinderance to any of thoes countries. They are open boarders just like you have in the USA. I can go and see what my tax money paid for and enjoy the museums and attractions. Can uss Texas only be visited by people who live in Texas?
1
@WALTERBROADDUS hmm yes, I suppose that is where you can argue what is a capital ship. But I suppose at the time the G.Aserov was to Greece. So Olympia was to the USN at the time. I guess I was more thinking 1900s/1910s era. Ships who served at Tsushima through the great war.
1
I'm pretty sure that was discussed in a earlier dry Dock :)

.... please

An interesting insight. And your English is brilliant. Thanks for sharing 😊

The question was about what could be done by Japan in 1944. By that point there was no way jaapn could build such a submarine arm
1
This should be special
1
Wow?
1
@TheCool31 the only stupid question is one you didn't ask. This is an educational channel. Ask :) as a side note. I knew next to nothing about warships until discovering this channel. My interest was always air and land and military/political history. God bless the internet
1
Yep, been mentioned/talked about a few times :)

The Crimean war? Remember, the uk kicked off the industrial revolution. Not to mention the nepolionic wars. Which was the first time industry was mobilised en-mass. Especially ship building, cannon forgeing etc. Oh, and the bunderskrig of course. Contemporaneous with the American civil war. The American civil war may have been the first industrial war in American history. But it wasn't the first in history.

1 yamato against the two Bismarck class, the Sharnhorsts, plus all the cruisers and destroyers not to mention the u boats. It'd be one sided all right. And not to the polish advantage 😂 I doubt the engagement would last more than 20 mins. Heck a single lucky u boat would more or less end it. A 4 torpedo spread from u boat sized torpedo's would probably put it down.
1
*u boat comment based on what happened to musashi when the us worked out they had to focus on one side of the ship with torpedoes. Arial dropped being much smaller than ship launched etc
1
@bkjeong4302 hence why I said a lucky u boat. It doesn't matter if the destroyers are crap. They carry torpedoes and a battleship can't get them all. Not when they have a large group of cruisers, 2 pocket battle ships and 2 Bismarck class. You can't point a 18.1 inch gun at 50 targets. Most of which carry torpedoes. It's game over for yamato. It will take several ships down with it. But it's loosing and it's loosing very quickly.
1
@bkjeong4302 if you want to take it to that level of "realism" then it's a moot point. So what's the point in discussing a single ship Vs a whole navy. Which is what we're looking at: A polish crewed yamato class battleship. Going to attack the entire krigsmarine. I'm well aware how bad some of the krigsmarine destroyer designs were. But suggesting they will fall apart by putting to sea is just silly. They are being attacked anyway. So can decide when to put to sea to meet the attack. Don't like rough north sea conditions? No problem, wait until it's calmer. (Also the fact that German destroyers could operate against the Arctic convoys really does show the fallacy of a sweeping statement about them all capsizing). The fact is. I don't see any situation where a single battleship can take out an entire navy. Unless said navy lines up to be sunk one at a time while setting themselves on fire and hammering holes in the bottom of their ships with pick axe's. It's just not going to happen. In a computer game maybe. But not in the real world
1
 @brendan8596 what do you mean?
1
@GrahamCStrouse but if they were expecting Jutland II Why would they remove them?
1
The problem there being that the u boat would find the airship fairly easy to spot. They were looking out for (much smaller) hunter killer aircraft as it was. Also. The emissions of the radar set could have been intercepted. The RN used airships in ww1. There's a reason they'd don't use them in ww2. The smartest people in any given country were assisting their country in coming up with technology and tactics to win the war. If something so simple would have won the battle of the Atlantic. They would have done it. (Which is a rule of thumb internet "historians" seem to forget. It's something I was taught in A level history 15 years ago.)

Merry Christmas Drach. You've been a grand companion the last 2 years. Here is to many more.

We say no to pay to win north south divide for you. I live a 5 min drive from Hartlepool. The idea of visiting Portsmouth would need me to budget more than ‘normal’ people spend on a week in Spain on a beach. I priced up 2 nights in London and 2 in Portsmouth with another day aside to visit bovingdon and inc fuel and not inc food/drink I came to £400 and that’s not including entrance fees. Just travel and hotels really and even then it’s basic travel lodge stuff. Won’t stop be doing it. But compared to the museum at Hartlepool I can see a southerner not wanting to waste the time and money to go to a museum which doesn’t really compare to Belfast/victory
1
@18:30. I’d love to see Adm. Kings reaction to such an event. Extinction of the human race probably isn’t bad enough as a reaction
1
@sarjim4381 I enjoy all your comments (as you have probably worked out by now) and I have to say this is the most welcome. Should you ever wish to visit England. You'd be welcome at my home for a weekend. I live very close to Hartlepool and Scarborough (both shelled as I'm sure you know in ww1). We have a small naval museum in Hartlepool and everywhere in England is only a few hours away by train. Rather than an off hand comment on the internet. I genuinely mean this offer. I'm sure I'd enjoy discussing history with you over a cuppa tea (or whatever you colonials drink ;) ).
1
@sarjim4381 could not agree more!. I'm a strange one with my tea. When I brew in the cup, I leave the tea bag in! But have plenty of whole milk. I enjoy my hobbies/reading/puzzles/fixing things. And I used to forget to take my teabag out.... It came to be a habit! Not common in England. But a cup of tea is at its best when enjoyed. No matter how made! I'm a bit younger. 32, though when discussing centuries of naval history, a life span is a drop in the ocean (pun intended I'm afraid!) Im luck enough to live with my 93 year old grandfather. He has some stories! I've had a deep interest in history since I was a pup. I was very unwell as a child and grew up on documentary channels. So ww1/2 were my first interest. Combined with a love of reading.... The rest as they say is history. I'm sure if you came over we could head south. Strange people down there (sorry drach if you read this!). But some fine museums. Portsmouth is a wonderland. No other way about it. I've sadly not toured Belfast. I seem to have a curse where she's concerned. But the imperial war museum London is very good (small but of top quality). The IWM Duxford is fantastic if you enjoy Air warfare history's as well as naval history. And if land warefare is an interest then I hear the tank museum Bovingdon is amazing (I plan to visit in the new year). Where I live is a long way from these places. But I shouldn't use that as an excuse!). Oh, we have a preserved ww2 POW camp on my doorstep, now a huge museum to ww2, each hut is a theme or some-shuch. And an open air museum called Bemish (look it up. Another wonderland. Aimed at the Victorian era. But does cover the Edwardian and later). Plus the historic houses, estates and castles which Americans always enjoy when they visit. Then there's York (old York!) I could go on and on. The offer is very much there. I dare say it'd be an excuse to enjoy more of what the British isles have to offer myself! My step father is Royal Navy, I haven't served sadly. But I'd enjoy hearing your stories for sure. I wonder if Drachinifel realises how much he's doing for us history buffs? Side note. I don't use social media. But I do have Facebook which I use for the messenger app (for friends around the world). If you use it. My name is... My name! I have a yellow car as my photo. Chat soon Sar Jim, it's time for me to get some kip!

Answer to both is the same. Neither were politically likely or possible at the time. Remember when you look at history. You have to try and not look back with hindsight. But put yourself in the shoes of the people at the time. Why didn't the Italians build carriers. Well why would they. The med is small enough that land based aircraft were a better investment. They also were stretching their yards to build what they built. A carrier would mean loosing battleships and by the time that aircraft carriers would be more useful in the med. The Italians were out of the war. Why did Germany not? Short answer. Hitler ended up at war 6 years earlier than " planned". As for the US and UK standardising. They did in some ways. Tanks being the obvious one. The UK largely standardised with the RAN RNZN etc. However nation's equip their ships for their requirements. The needs of a navy in the North sea are very different to one which operates in the Pacific. So true standardisation wasn't even the rule in a single navy. Across several navies is unlikely. Going back to the politics of the time. The interwar period relations between the US and the British empire were not totally friendly. The idea of the two competing nations being allies would be laughable to most statesmen at the time. You don't share technology with a potential enemy. Unless economics or prestige play a big role. And in this case you sell to a inferior. Not an equal
1
If you look in the description of all his videos, you'll see the list of upcoming ships. They are done on a "as requested" basis. So the magnificent was requested after the collosus class. Which was the video done before this one. The he's mentioned in several videos that the list is long enough to cover well over a year of ship requests. But he is updating it with each new request. The full list is on his pc as it won't all fit in the video description. Asking for your request more than once doesn't move it up the list. You can however vote to have a request moved up the list if you are a channel patron. All this info is in the video description or repeated in many of his other videos.
1
I believe the Cleveland class has been covered. The list is several years long now. But the soon to be covered ships are in the video description
1
He's done a huge special on fire control
1
@9:30 my god. After following drach for well over 3 years. I just heard the voice of the mine. And she mixed up victory and warspite. Drach. I understand your woes. My Mrs justed to call my race car "the yellow one" 🙄
1
Pringles Gaming think he’s done them. If not they will be on the list I’m sure
1
Skreezilla basically what i wanted to ask. With a thought that Britain being the worlds only super power of the time. Was a visit cancelled because of dreadnought as it would be a bit.... awkward
1
ArcticTemper good question! Please become a patron so it’s asked!!!!!!
1
ToastyBathTime been answered before bud :)
1
Kinghouse BD answered in a way. He pointed out that such schemes wouldn’t come back for reasons. So how good it would look would be a mute conversation
1
RemusKingOfRome5 efficiency. You have to remember that steam power was sort of new. But it was old hat compared to the idea of electric propulsion. So a hybrid electric drive or a engine that powers a electric drive was way in the future. As for using electricity for onboard systems. See the french pre dred video
1
Emperor_Xenolius I’m sure that’s been covered in dry dock :)
1
MusicMikko he’s been asked to review movies. I would love to see this happen. Even better with cinema sins/wins. But he has a lot on his plate! Just don’t mention the submarine farce of a movie....
1
Nimbus Shadow-Wings been answered loads of times in dry dock bud. Very extensively and also discussed in the 5min guide on the class
1
Bailey D amazing! I would love to know about this. Maybe you could contact some archivists as it’s definitely a topic that needs a lot of primary research. Drach is a machine but that question needs a LOT of deep research. I speak form experience . I doubt drach has that much time sadly
1
josh thomas-moore dam fine question. Based on the raf stuff I’ve read. Basically they had to speak English. End of
1
Tishirobearcat covered in a DD but I agree
