I think I'd like this guy. It's just the sort of sense of humour I "get"

I'd love to shoot this gun. But I'd have to move country 😂. Great of the channel to do this giveaway

I know most people will say as the op does 'what if they had just waited... How silly it was etc' I'd say it's more interesting to say. What if a German/french war kicked off in 1890? Or 1895? One was due 😂 I mean 1870/71 was ages ago. Had that happened and the French had this new wonder weapon in HUGE numbers that the Germans weren't expecting. And A: the french would be utter genius and B: history would change massively. The German empire probably wouldn't fall. Would Alsace or Lorraine be part of France again. Would a German/English arms race ever happen... Would the entant cordial endure as it did? Butterflys indeed.

Well this comment didn't age well 😂

Can anyone tell me why there is cloth over a crate at the start? Just curious

"hard to get hold of here in the US". Bet it's still easier than in the UK lol. Just trying to buy something like this would get you a very long stint at her majesty's pleasure (prison).

'a random person can turn up and shoot a military rifle'.... For someone from England. this is mind blowing 😳
1
The real question is; what is it good for?
1
I assume because you've never met anyone from the British isles 😂 Nobody talks like that unless it's on TV.

I'm glad I saw this comment. Made me Google what a 50bmg is. Made me appreciate his dry delivery. I didn't even realise it was a joke 🤣

Isn't the whole point of a gun that it is 'terrifyingly dangerous". I mean guns are a thing because they kill your enemy's or things you want to eat/use for their fur etc. Just like bows and arrows. I still agree it's cool that it's an unusual historical item. :)

Not sure who buck Rodgers is. But if he was to shoot me, I'd like it to be with this gun
1
In England it's the Zedabee 47. Which makes it a magic hitman I hope someone else finds this funny as hell

I know the original post was a year ago. But I'm curious. Joe, you mention 'home defence'. Do you have to worry about armed attack on your home's as a serious threat in America? It sounds pretty scary.
1
I don't like guns*. I watch your channel religiously because I love history and engineering. This really wins the engineering for me, and then some! * No offence to Americans/south Africans/other countries where guns are normal. We just don't have them in England. Ok, the armed forces and special police units do. But I've not seen a gun in at least 3 years (a police officer). So to us chaps in England. A gun means some madman wants to kill you. And I like being alive😅

Is this the same BSA that made motorbikes?
1
It would be interesting to see this compared to the normal type guns your comparing it to. Just for us people who have never seen a hand gun.
1
It's a shame that in the USA people feel the need to have a gun to be safe at home. I'm glad I don't live in such a place. But the resulting cool guns are great for us none Americans to look at on your channel :)

@runninggames771 I live in a country like the op. Owning a shotgun or bolt action rifle is possible but not easy and most people go their entire lives and only ever see a gun carried by a specialist police officer or someone in the military. I love learning about guns and shoot myself. I wouldn't change our gun laws a bit. We don't have gun crime, violence does happen in the bigger cities. But in my home town of 20,000 people I believe the last murder was in the 1980s. I don't suggest our laws would work in countries where guns are already common. But my point is you shouldn't have to 'feel sorry ' for us people who live in countries like mine.

@Darthdoodoo define "free". As for 'what's coming'. If you live in a country where nobody but law enforcement/the military have firearms. Then why would you need firearms. I mean assuming the current world system of (mostly) capitalism and democracy falls apart. Your no worse off than anyone else that's not a general. None of your competitors for food and shelter have firearms. So your on an even playing field. You'd have to bonk your rivels with a big rock or be stabby if you want to kill your fellow man and take his stuff. This may suck. But he has the same problem so it's a fair game.

I don't think favouring home industry at the cost to the end user/tax payer is just a British thing somehow.

@Zlonk7 I guess that's the dilemma. Spend more on a better product and be accused by the media of wasting money. Or save money and end up with problems that can cost lives. Rep sticking seems to be something of an English sticking point. One of my cars has a Rover K series engine in. Had huge issues at first with failing head gaskets. Inspite of being a world leading design. Got lots of power and was super light. That's all people remember. I built mine with a later series designed head gasket and it's bomb proof reliable inspite of years of abuse on race tracks. I take the kettle jokes in good humour. But nobody makes ringland jokes about my skyline or missfire jokes about my brother's golf GTi. We really do pick on our own 😂
1
@Zlonk7 so it's really a stereotype that's stuck? Maybe this channel could cover that story 🤔

How have I just found this. Brilliant reference. Now I shall await the covering of ebony bows

It's called confirmation bias. It's why people who think the world is flat think they have found loads of "evidence" of it. A scary one I heard from a friend of mine (who is perfectly intelligent) stated that he didn't ware seatbelts because a friend of his survived a major accident and wasn't warring one. I tried to explain that you can't hear from the 99% of people who died from not warring a seatbelt.... because they are dead. Sigh

I know it's 2 yr later but I'm a history nerd and I don't understand this. Could anyone explain?

I'm going to be "that guy". And complain that this isn't "steampunk" anymore than USS Texas, a traction engine or the golden gate bridge is "steampunk". It's contemporary. It would be steampunk if it was made today to look like it was made pre 1940s. But.... It's cool as frack. Wonderful video. The chap at the end is good as well. Fun watch! And a beautiful piece of engineering...the mechanism. Not the gentleman.

Someone link the chieftain. This gun has a tensioning system!

James Holland did a great book on Malta in ww2. It's interesting reading the early chapters where the people of the island knew Italy would get involved. And yet many knew Italians and there were lots of Italian sympathisers on the island... Not shocking given the Italian coast was so close. It was a hellish place a lot of the time, Malta dog being a vivid example of how hard life was there.

 @chE3z1 replying to you and.......

I don't care if YT want to limit content that's not important. But I've seen too many history channels censored. I've now DL the utreon app to try out. I couldn't give a toss about the gun lobby debate in the USA. But history censorship is unacceptable.

Ah, so Hama's has based it's factory on fallout 4. I feel sorry for the Israeli forces when they progress to power armour.
