There's going to be tension between the new recruits and established troopers. Imagine putting in time at a job, then learning the new guy couldn't meet the basic standards you did. Plus was paid extra for failing.

@vinyllpreviews9462 For the king of construction I give you I-10 in Jacksonville (North Florida). When I moved there in 1975 part of it was under construction. A section, always moving, has been under construction, being rebuilt, or otherwise modified evey day since then. I just assumed that some congressman's brother in law owned a construction company.

In a word, Chicago. Let's vote in someone worse!

In my old neighborhood you could see people, usually on bikes, circling like vultures behind a wounded animal. I moved in May. The place is smaller, the rent is significantly higher. But it's quiet and peaceful.

Poor enough is relative. Maybe if I'm starving, or hungry and have no food in the foreseeable future. But stealing the latest iPhone because I "need" to have the latest tech to be cool, or a bunch of clothes from a store to resell on eBay is not desperation, it's just theft and should be treated accordingly.

@SamS-uv2ql You left out the "who claimed to be 18 at the time". I'm sure every guy who hooked up with a woman at a party ran a full background check first.
5
@thistle76 Agree. They get inconveniences, we all get the bill.

Will likely happen again. I'd like to see someone do a check of the people the parole board let out. It's happened before, they just weren't connected. As you pointed out, too many parole boards are staffed by people who would be happy to just open the gates of every prison. But for now are restricted to rubber stamping YES on each request individually.

If asked why he started the organization I would not be amazed if his response was "My wife's boyfriend said I should find a hobby, something to focus my extra time and energy on."
5
People are still dealing with the bureaucracy to try and get help from the Palestine derailment. Remember that one? When the Secretary of Transportation couldn't be reached because he was on maternity leave to take care of his adopted baby.
5
And now "Justice impacted individuals", not "criminals".
5
He's one of the champions of Restorative Justice. Basically, criminals are the real victims, so don't punish them.
5
Can't pay? No problem. Can pay? Here, have a bill for six ibuprofen at $10 each.
5
Sadly, since Sports Illustrated went Uber Woke, she's SI Swimsuit issue material.
5
It's working so well in France that they felt they just had to send their "diverse" population to England.
5
Unfortunately their viewers don't learn anything either.

Pookie and Ray Ray have lots of cousins, and they vote. So you better not be too harsh on them.

Bears are a heavily protected species here in Florida. If one is chewing on your leg it would probably be considered your fault for getting yourself into the situation. (Much like being in a burning building in LA.) The unwritten policy for hunters or hikers that were attacked by a bear was to follow the three S rule. Shoot, shovel, and shut up. Do what you have to do to get out of the situation, quickly cover any involvement while getting the heck out of there, and don't mention it to anyone. Similar advice for anyone who has to defend themselves in New York or cities with similar woke prosecutors.

To quote former President Clinton's advisor George Carville. "IT'S THE ECONOMY, STUPID!" Remember "Transitory inflation"? Remember when they told us that the price spikes were due to disruptions in the supply chain? Remember how it was supposed to be ironed out in a couple months? Three years later I'm still waiting.
5
Except for porch pirates. I won't get home delivery where I live because there's too high of a chance whatever is delivered won't be there by the time I get to it.
5
You might have noticed she's of a particular party. Also, the Mayor and her entourage are made up of a certain demographic. But I'm sure that has nothing to do with it.
5
For years bears were a very protected species in Florida. Using force against one was almost guaranteed to put you in front of a judge. The unwritten rule for hunters or other people who spent time in wilderness areas was to move away. If this failed, follow the three S's. Shoot, shovel, and shut up. Do what you have to do to safely (for you) to end the situation, get rid of the evidence, and never mention it again.
5
Remember "Transitory inflation"? No one ever seemed to be able to define it, but it always came down to "when the supply issues were worked out". Only a few months. That was four years ago.
5
In their defense, would you wait around on the police for 4 hours to file a report. On the 911 priority scale this is "Whenever you get back from vacation" level response. It is a feedback reaction though, you are right. Law enforcement makes it a hassle to report a crime, don't prosecute when citizens still do it, citizens give up, crime goes up, law enforcement claims to be overwhelmed, chain continues. Sometimes it takes force to break a chain.

Ironic. A group that demands diversity doesn't know how to diversify their investments. Or payroll apparently.
4
Intersectionality strikes again. MeToo outranks DeadGradma.
4
Get your card stamped 100 times and you get a free apartment.
4
This will continue until the companies that own the copyrighted material find a way (Or choose to if there already is a way.) to go after Twitch and not individual streamers. I'm certain that 5 minutes after Twitch has to start paying out legal fees they'll magically find a way to scrub copyrighted material from every account.
4
Notice that you can see her (I think) face. Most of the others had hoodies and masks. Almost as if they intended to go out and do something that they didn't want to be identified with.
4
Because you are already in the system. If you, I, or any citizen suddenly stops paying we get out paychecks garnished and eventually tossed in prison.
4
It would be a State's Attorney from Illinois or possibly a federal prosecutor. They can't see corruption just a few miles away in Chicago. Do you really think she'll pop up on their radar? Kind of like shoplifters being ignored if what they are stealing is worth less than $1,000. If an elected official can keep their theft to under $1 million a year, it isn't really a crime there.
4
Other people who either have a neck tattoo or date guys with them. Because they gangsta like that.
4
But she was out to get the bad Orange Man. So any failings on her part are acceptable. Besides, strong black woman. MSNBC commentators.
4
NAACP will tell you it's a great place to run a business. Not that they'll put any money up to start one. Or any member will risk doing it themselves.
4
Long before their were manbuns I sort of had one. I'd wrap and tuck my hair (Very long back then) to fit it under my motorcycle helmet. But it came down as soon as the helmet came off.
4
Maybe they'll elect a deacon or preacher. So they can add "I'm a man/woman of Ghawd!" to their list of defenses when cash disappears again.
4
Let us focus on the future, unburdened by paint jobs of the past.
4
What, no pictures of the murderer's 8th grade graduation? Where's his mom talking about how he's such a good boy?
4
99% of the country outside of the DC area wouldn't have known. The only reason people in the area would have noticed is that the road would be closed while they cleaned it up.
4
@CarpeNoctem135 But jobs have unreasonable conditions. Like expecting you to show up, and not be stoned out of your mind.
4
Unless prosecutors are willing to prosecute, absolutely nothing. But I do give Californians credit for at least recognizing something is wrong and are willing to do something.
4
Sam Kinison vs Cancel Culture would have been great. He prided himself on finding an offensive position, then charging forward.
4
He has instant response as his default mode. It really would do him some good, if nothing else for perception, for someone on his staff to teach him how to stay silent for a few seconds.
4
The "farm" was designed by someone who read a book about hydroponics. Well, looked at some pictures, that's close enough.
4
We've always had a primary. Yeah, well it's 2024 and you're a Democrat. Primaries are optional this year.
4
In Oakland this guy would get a ticket for illegal parking.
4
If they were capable of feeling genuine shame they wouldn't have been there to begin with.
4
Step 1. Be told you are guilty. Step 2. Look within yourself and find proof of your guilt Step 3. Deliver the proof (even if you have to make it up) and confess your guilt. Step 4. Don't bother asking for absolution or forgiveness because no one will offer it even if they had the power to do so.
4
Hire people (activists), call them judges and let them approve every application in front of them. Abracadabra! A whole new voting block.
4
The political equivalent of a couple that stays together for the sake of the kids and standing in the community. Once they get home the masks come off.
