(That's right, I don't use the word gender. It's a linguistics term.) As children are profoundly suggestible in the first place and moreover have considerable respect for what is taught in school, this introduces unreasonable speculation into their partially-developed minds. It leads them to suppose that whatever problems of adjustment they may have in life, problems which are normal for children to experience, they are potentially solvable by masquerading as someone of the opposite sex. This entails a radically dangerous program of taking opposite-sex hormones, then having surgery to sterilize them. The point of it is to increase the number of so-called trans people, which is a political goal and is moreover harmful to the children affected. As such it is rightly countered with political measures to reduce such harm, as Premier Smith has now done. Good on her.
