There are important areas where we should be working together as allies, for example against those who would like to see democracy disappear off the face of the earth.

The Speaker thought he would make a contribution by bringing in this old guy who lives in his hometown, but basic history was over his head and he blew it. Unfortunately everyone trusted him to handle it correctly. Blame also has to go to the Prime Minister's Office because they have ultimate responsibility for visits of foreign heads of state. The PM's chief of staff must resign.

Yes, Ukraine's democracy is flawed but it's on the right side of the democracy/authoritarian state divide. Far more democratic than Russia! A lot of improvement was made in the 2014-2021 period. Of course there's been a wartime loss of freedom, but that's standard in any country with a war on its own soil, even Western ones. The 2024 election is planned to fall on time.

  49. Nothing odd about showing the Tu-95, which is indeed an old Soviet bomber. It's still a mainstay of the Russian bomber fleet and is expected to remain in service until 2040.
