  29. Growing up in the UK in 80s I was unaware how serious this had been. I was in Chicago in 2000 and visiting a very sick friend in hospital. I went to donate blood but was refused as had lived in UK during the BSE period and so was considered contaminated. But had been giving blood in UK since 92.
