The state of Florida doesn't have enough money to pay out all of their unemployment claims, so they would rather re-open the state, force people to go back to work and put them at risk. This is also part of the reason why they've been dragging their heels to process all of their backlogged unemployment claims!

  14. This sounds exactly like what Wells Fargo did about seven years ago, when employees were fired for opening unauthorized accounts in order to meet arbitrary and unrealistic quotas. I don't blame the bank employees, I only blame management. They must've put the employees under enormous pressure to meet those quotas or forfeit their jobs.

  18. Oh please. This happens every morning to me on the CTA. Homeless people sleeping on the trains, walking on the tracks, acting sick...I can't even count the number of times my trains have been delayed and I've been late to work.

  19. I work as a cashier and I hear that sometimes from customers. It’s baloney. Self-checkout terminals are NOT going to eliminate jobs. You still need a human to clean and maintain the machine, remove and count cash, replace paper receipt rolls, refurbish the supply of plastic baga, assist with troubleshooting, verify IDs of customers purchasing age-restricted products, and monitor to make sure customers are properly scanning all products, among other duties. Not to mention the new job(s) created for the manufacturer of the machine and the software engineer(s). Jobs cannot be “destroyed”. They simply change with technology.

  20. I work retail and I disagree that self-checkouts destroy jobs. You still need someone to count the cash and make safe deposits, monitor the customers against skip-scanning, replenish receipt paper, and plastic bags, conduct age-verification (for alcohol or tobacco purchases) clean the machines and perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting. Automation doesn’t destroy jobs, it just changes them.

There are signs posted EVERYWHERE warning entrants what may not be brought in (which usually includes weapons, food, cell phones and any type of recording device). This lady is full of sh*t when she says she didn’t know. I have to wonder how she managed to get through security.

I would also like to point out that female models get much higher salaries than male models (where is the outcry over THAT) and Reese Witherspoon and Angelina Jolie both have an annual salary of $35 million whereas Christian Bale was paid only $10,000 for his role in The Machinist .
