We tend to view WW2 as all one big war, where most of the world views it is two separate distinct wars - a European War and a US War with Japan in Asia. Europeans were not helping in Asia even after VE day and Germany was doing very little to support Japan. Our main ally in Asia fighting against the Japanese was Mao and his Red Army, who we abandoned when he made it clear he was not going to be a puppet of the United States.
