@chrisnelson414 or NetBSD if you like mucking with older hardware.

@zytr0x108 Nah, those are all things that get you labeled as a monopoly, which then will get you broken up. Look at google. To be truly capitalism, you need to skirt that line where you are successful based on having a better product. Some may argue that is what Apple is, but their methods of forcing people to stay with them is not capitalism. It is monopolistic behavior. Think along the lines of merit vs dei. People require Apple products in certain places only because of their apps they have bought lock them in vs actual merit of them being the best. (May be a poor comparison, but I am limited on time to think of another.) Anyhow, you can absolutely have a woke company that is also about making money. Usually it happens when they have SO MUCH money, they no longer care about losing a lot of it.

@6ypyNDyk yes.
1
Ha, Light Wave and Video Toaster on the Amiga!
1
@lm4122 ha, I just game on Linux, no VM required.
1
@uncrunch398 I own real hardware for such things.
1
@AlucardNoir Ha, I mean you could edit 4k photos and video on systems that old, assuming you had a program that could load in chunks of the image at a time... but it would be really, really slow...
1
@LeFlamel I thought they were talking about git branches as well and was confused. It is even funnier when they try to change things like 'Master Bedroom' because that never had anything to do with slavery.
1
@secretfirefox6880 Yeah, AUR is just a pile of scripts to make installing stuff that isn't packaged for Arch easier.
1
Time to go back to software that takes advantage of 64kb. Not even requires it, just takes advantage.
1
@rembrandt2323 Kind of hilarious to now lump Linux in with Windows these days to use for gaming.
1
Ha, someone needs to fork Linux Mint and call it Jewbuntu for our Jewish friends.
1
What is crazy is the whole open source concept is rather left wing already. The problem is the 'Inclusion' ideology is literally an 'exclusion' cult. This is how they ruin open source.
1
@kirith_gamer8029 a lot of it came from the Nokia N900 for Gnome Shell.
1
Yeah, I’ve tried to explain some of the reasons why people should not vote for the Democrats. The current iteration of them aren’t very democratic… but many of the comments by Hillary and Kamala… sure sounds like open source / freedom of speech is under attack.
1
There used to be some really good sword app in Linux... not that I can recall what it was called though.
1
I know I saw gnome running on a POS in Home Depot one day. But this was long enough ago that it was running Gnome 1.
1
@Beesman88 Back to using MorphOS / Amiga.
1
@oldyoutubeaccount it is always the community managers... because the companies hire them based on diversity requirements... it isn't like they can code...
1
Ha, I can't blame Shatner for anything. I also would be annoyed by scams. Granted, I never really used Telegram either.
1
I actually stopped visiting OSNews after watching one of your previous videos. I used to visit it all the time, but the site has become worthless, may as just read Phoronix. Calling a Jewish person a Nazi is not only moronic, but it's more crazy than some of the crap I hear from schizophrenics... Pretty sure he lives in Finland or something? He absolutely needs someone to tell him to STFU.
1
@xDJKerox The silly thing is the normal package managed software takes less resources overall as it reuses libraries that are already there / in memory. Flatpak is better at this than others, as it has its own concept of shared libraries, ut it still creates additional ram usage over system installed packages. Snaps are a lot worse from a technical point of view. I think AppImages are similar to that as well. No solution is perfect.
1
@GraveUypo Yeah, I have a Yoga, macbook m1, desktop, and proxmox server that I use as 5 desktops in one... (that doesn't count servers).
1
ApolloOS (which is a fork of AROS is out there, open source, and could use some coders.)
1
@danp2306 Exactly. I didn't say anything about questioning their existence. Just that they are basically self-entitled party crashers. It is very odd, considering they push that they are so oppressed, where it may have been true in the past, but isn't anymore.
1
I hate yum/dnf... they are both so slow... but just randomly...
1
I would try it out, but the vast majority of native commercial software I use seems to prefer .deb or appimage files....
1
Floorp / Firedragon!
1
Since it is mostly RH employees that work on GNOME, it makes sense that their code of conduct is against white people, too. What a gnarly world we live in.
1
I feel as though there should be a distro named ZeppOS, with ROCK as the stable release, and ROLL as the rolling release...
1
@obineg5752 one thing that bugs me is the lack of good defaults on a system. Dolphin, for example, seems to search contents of files or metadata by default... I just want to search for the file name! It took me longer than it should to figure that out, and where to change it. Then you have Numlock... why is that off by default? Who uses the keypad for other stuff? Only time I ever have is for dungeon crawlers for old computers... Good defaults is usually what Gnome is somewhat good for. I really dislike MacOS's defaults. I am with Lunduke, you used to be able to theme MacOS X, and make it look awesome... it was one of the few reasons I wanted to play with it. But shortly after I got one to use for work, they took that away... Flavours is dead now because they changed the API it was using and the author gave up. Even getting other filesystem support is problematic. Last time I tried to install the driver for ext3/4, it would just crash the system... pay for a filesystem driver, and causes a kernel crash... just crappy experience overall if you want to actually USE your computer...

@dealloc more than one, and that is too many. At least in Nautilus, I can turn on the option for delete, and in Dolphin, I can hold shift to delete to skip the trash. I use a program called Forklift on the mac. It is a much better file manager and also supports scp and ftp.
1
@dealloc I just looked (I have the latest beta of macOS on my m1), there is no Delete Immediately under File on Finder. There isn't even a Move to Trash, as I think it gets confused when you click a file, then click the File menu. If you double-finger click on the touch pad on the file, it brings up the 'Move to Trash'. The Command+Option+Backspace does actually delete the file with a prompt. But that's not even discoverable in any of the menus.
1
@Ay-xq7mj ha, yeah. Guess it depends on what fuckery you care about the most. For privacy/trustworthiness, Linux is miles ahead of macos / windows. Ha, I have been thinking of trying out FreeBSD or NetBSD lately...
1
@ErazerPT Yup! And 3.2+ has some nice things that are now built in so you don't have to install a lot of those old things anymore.
1
I am fairly positive he is incorrect about DuckDuckGo. They use Bing as their search engine. I haven't had any issues with them being woke. Then again, I mostly go to the particular sites I visit, and only use DDG for finding tech issues.
1
@infopackrat I have used it before Netscape rebranded...
1
Ha, you can blacklist drivers in Linux. They are modular. You can also recompile your kernel and rip them out.
1
I haven't seen this from Arch yet, though I snoozed a bit during this video, so maybe I missed it... but I honestly wouldn't mind moving to CDE, I love the look of my SGI's desktop...
1
It is good that the distro is apolitical. But we need the projects that the distributions use to also become apolitical. I don't care if the politics are 'woke', left, right, whatever. Why are software projects (or the other thing that seems to have been invaded, TTRPGs) have politics around them?
1
@mnemonic_de Yeah, in that particular case, I wouldn't surprise me if that was more about a group of employees that worked on the AI, rather than Google as a whole. They fired a bunch of employees protesting their dealings with Israel... don't try to hit your employer in the wallet, they will quickly drop the attitude of letting people say what they want to the public...
1
There apparently was some political nonsense of why Debian's KDE packager ended up stop being a maintainer, I am curious if Lunduke has done a story on it, as it sounds like another 'you're a nazi' issue. I only found this out today as I have been wondering where the KDE 6.x packages were for Debian Sid... I may have to look for a new main distro, though I already triple boot Garuda, Debian and that W OS...
1
@TheSolidSnakeOil Web browsers have got to be the worse to work on. Or more to the point their rendering engines, as it is a constantly moving target, the standards, what few there are, are implemented differently, so can cause code to display in odd ways depending on what you use. While on the one hand, it would be nice to have a proper standard, leaving all the power of the web to one company will be the end of any innovation...
1
@LinuxMaster9 Ha, good thing that Lunduke has scruff on his chin, or hw could be the next mustache man villain.
1
Amusingly, if macOS were based on Linux, it would be more open to modifications, and be more useful overall.
1
@justanothercomment416 "But they are just to say "don't be a dick."" Nope, they were the knife into the projects that could be used to twist and murder it... Yeah, the CoCs were always an awful idea. Saw it coming from a mile away.
1
@muhdiversity7409 Ha, I am still saddened they changed that in 3.x
1
Haha, I am now expecting people to come to my door, yell out that Lunduke is a nazi and then run away...
1
Mandrake was great, but I would experiment, and running their equivalent of rawhide back then would eat itself pretty quickly. I am wondering how well they got the rolling release under control. I still wish they had kept apt4rpm from Connectiva...
