So when we're talking about China's "achievements" or failures, we're actually talking about its government's. Which is the CCP. Why does the CCP deserve credit for fixing a problem they went out of their way to create?

  12.  @chuckie102883  I'm going to ignore your irrelevancies about other stuff the US has done is not particularly relevant to this. Which don't we know for sure? Also, when you say the majority want reunification, under which regime? Do they want a German style reunification with south Korea absorbing the North? Or to they want the other way around? The overlap between these options is pretty minimal and the only way you're going to get the former is if the PRC and USSR also didn't intervene.

There were three countries that would have needed to stay out of Korea to make your fantasy come true. The PRC, the USA and the USSR. If you think the other two were going to leave it alone because of their massive respect for international law, you're delusional.

The western powers also teamed up with a mass murdering dictator. The only good thing you could say about Stalin is he wasn't Hitler. Does this make the USA soviet? I'm also curious on whether you think the soviets were Nazis. Remember Stalin and Hitler were military allies in the invasion of Poland.

There was a while at the start where the US was going to just let it happen. They had other affairs. The result of this would have been an entire Korean peninsula run by the Kims. As for first tier cities, they're anomalies in the PRC that only a few percent actually live in. You've got the centre of government, the centre of finance, the centre of technology (I quite liked Shenzhen) for a country of 1.4 billion. The rest go downhill very quickly. Incidentally, Beijing has the highest at 26k USD. Taiwan as a whole is 32k USD. And has clean air, water and people are about 50 percent more likely to decide they can afford children.
