@canto_v12 keeping in mind that countries don't do anything. They're large patches of dirt and water. It's the people who run a country that do things, as well as the people in that country. So when we're talking about China's "achievements" or failures, we're actually talking about its government's. Which is the CCP. Why does the CCP deserve credit for fixing a problem they went out of their way to create? They do this a lot. All of their major achievements are based on either being better than the IJA (wow. Congratulations), being better than Mao (who the CCP enthusiastically supported) or doing an inadequate job of solving a problem they created. They didn't raise the Chinese people out of (extreme) poverty. The Chinese people did that. The CCP just stopped putting all their effort into keeping them poor.

By listing lifting people out of poverty, that's basically what you're doing here. They do this a lot. All of their major achievements are based on either being better than the Japanese (wow) or being better than Mao (who the CCP enthusiastically supported) They didn't raise the Chinese people out of (extreme) poverty. @testphone8379 it was the Republic of China's gold. The people's Republic of China didn't even exist yet. Who did they steal it from?
1
Probably. Ultimately, the CCP has failed at everything it tried. Its only successes are based on an inadequate job of fixing what it broke. Such as "lifting people out of poverty" by allowing in capitalism. Uniting china is the closest they've come to a success. As long as they ignore what Russia took.

A bit has happened since then that might affect your conclusion a bit. Even if you're including getting rid of the North Korean leadership, it's still not quite that simple.
1
Recent announcements from the PRC govt have had the same self reliance focus you see in Juche.
1
I like how you ignore the stellar job Mao did of destroying the economy after that.
1
An independent one.
1
That's the PRC.
1
@internetfreeforever2046 make me, bumao.
1
@internetfreeforever2046 I was being overly generous and using their gdp per capita instead of their median income.
1
What truth is that?
1
Because they've got friends. Sucks for the PRC that this is true.
1
It's a country by all major definitions of a country. These definitions don't and have never included UN or recognition by any specific country. The republic of China has been an independent state for 37 years longer than the secessionist PRC has existed. A reduction in the Territory it controls didn't change this.
1
The Republic of China relocated the Republic of China's money. Where's the theft? Also, that money was gone in a few years. The real gift to Taiwan was not being run in the same incompetent Mao did the secessionist country across the Strait.
1
The US funding is part of what prevents war from happening. The moment the CCP thinks it can invade at an acceptable cost, it'll do it. Keeping the cost of that higher than the cost to the CCP's leadership of not doing it keeps the peace.
1
Because they need all the excuses they can get.
1
The two thirds to three quarters of people who you'd have expected to become parents who've decided against it over the last decade would disagree with you.
1
Who did they steal it from? It was property of the ROC. The secessionist PRC hadn't been founded until 1949. Plus the fact they didn't have the rebel Mao to destroy any advantage what they did have might convey. It's amazing what effect not being run by an incompetent can have on the well being of your country.
1
@jamaljyf that's quite the pointless rant. Want to quote where I'm wrong, and how?
1
How many times do you think people would be going out to vote each year in direct democracy?
1
Look at the average income of the incompetents across the Strait.
1
@thehistory5401 is your use of caps and a surface level uncontroversial topic meant to somehow force me to give the answer you want while you avoid answering something very simple? Anyway. They were worse than the soviets. But not by much. Not by nearly enough for me to condemn someone who had recently been invaded by the USSR for fighting against them with any ally. The west wasn't doing anything different when we sided with Stalin . We sided with a monster. Just someone who was marginally less monstrous than what we fought against. Stalin was a true monster. So bad i can easily sympathise with the idea of someone in the 1940's deciding that any random entity must be better than them. At almost literally any other point in history, they'd have been right.
1
@thehistory5401 it's a portmanteau. And you've said that many times without anything more to back it up than would easily qualify the USSR And Stalin was bad. He was also an ally of Hitler's until Hitler broke their agreement. Finland was fighting against a very threatening foreign power that had recently invaded it. What's Stalin's excuse for forming an alliance? Interesting that you don't believe saying they're Nazis is a condemnation though. Just like it's interesting you haven't said what you would have done without your 20/20 hindsight.
1
So following the USA gave far better results than Mao's decision to follow the USSR did.
1
When did that happen? When was Taiwan ever under PRC control? @刘卫皇-v2j
1
Laughing at the wumao. With how things are going, it'll be bumao soon.
