It's based on the basic principal of rights. The old quote of "I can swing my fist anywhere until someone's face gets in the way". Why is that? Your freedom is limited when in conflict with the rights of someone else. Because of equality and reciprocal rights. Everyone has the same rights and SHOULD offer you back the same rights as you honor for them.
If you land on an island with 40 other strangers, do you have any free speech rights? The answer is no you don't, if that right comes from a constitution or the gov't. So then the answer is that you only offer love, kindness, rights, and benefits to those that reciprocate the SAME.
You would not offer free food to someone that doesn't help the group out, especially when everyone's survival is at risk. If they harmed you or your group, you would not demand they be unharmed. Rights within a society are inherently reciprocal.
This is the inherent destruction of Western societies, because they allow unlimited immigration of people that DO NOT hold and value Western values. That's why we saw the recent plundering of the Halloween candy bucket video, when the "please take one" sign is ignored. And society loses more and more cohesion, and more people realize that "this is why we can't have nice things".
