While I agree it is important, I think we should really package two things together: Income equality and just plain ole basic prosperity. Some of the effects you list are from inequality, and some are from poverty itself.
If we look at nations by GINI score, overall it's better to live in more equal societies. However, Algeria and Egypt are more equal than the US or Chile, so yeah. It is not everything.
If we can reduce inequality by making the system more fair, that will ALSO make more prosperity. IMHO we don't want to reduce it by trying to destroy the upper classes, that don't work, and even if it does, it doesn't help. Fairness -- like fixing the tax system, and eliminating huge monopolies -- will work and will help immensely.
Fairness has to include the political process, as Karen Grice comments. Eliminate gerrymandering, get rid of barriers to third parties, and mandate full and rapid transparency for large donations...
