I've been keto for years but a couple of weeks ago I thought I'd try something and bought a couple of packs of dates to see how they affected me. I've never been diabetic so I knew the worst that could happen was I might put on an ounce or two. Dates are really sweet and I was shocked to find how addicted I became to them. At first I ate only a couple a day but soon I was twenty a day, then, then, thirty a day. What surprised me however was I felt sluggish, instead of energetic. I really thought that much sugar would kick-start me but it did the exact opposite. I also gained a whole kilogram in a week. I only bought a kilogram of dates. I shan't be doing that again.

When it comes to oil, I'll cook with lard or bacon fat or even butter if cooking salmon. On occasion ghee. I have a lot of trouble believing that the olive oil in the supermarkets all over the world can actually come from the olive. What's more, I've always been under the impression that it shouldn't be used for cooking with as it has a low temp tolerance. Only for salads etc.

Salmon cooked in butter won't hurt you. It's lovely.

@gmm3080 I did too until I was forty. Then things went horribly wrong for me. Two things can happen, you can eat the wrong crap, or cop it from a doctor as I did. In ONE YEAR, on a single pill my weight more than doubled, It cost me my gallbladder, my appendix and my liver health. Doctors were not interested in fixing my problem. So you see, it can happen to anyone. In the end 20 years later a doctor told my I had hypothyroidism. Lost all the weight in six months on meat and fish.

You know he talks about olive oil being so wonderful for you but, back when the rest of the world was skinny on animal fat and beef and lamb. The Greeks were fat. I make a salad dressing with yoghurt. It tastes fabulous.

WE have the same digestive system as a world or a dog. We feed our pets once a day and they're fine. We do not graze like cows, or shouldn't because we don't have four stomachs. Try it, it's good for you and cheep too.
5
@colettejaques2559 We're clearly crazy.
4
So now this guy will be dead against coconut oil because it's so very high in saturated FAT as is butter, lard and any other animal fat. Doc. I think you could do with a bit of steak cooked in TALLOW. It'll do you the world of good.
4
The sad thing is that nowadays people have forgotten how to cook.
4
Good for you and me. I don't see why anyone needs to count the amount they eat though. You either eat what you need or you don't and go hungry. If you're eating animal products you do stop at the right time.
4
@gmm3080 What happened was, meds damaged my digestive system. This gradually happens to many of us over years. Mine never healed and this happened to me 32 years ago. I'm healthy now as long as I stay on a carnivore diet. I am now 72 years old and in no pain, have had no infections except a toothache in all this time. My immunologist did me a real favour when he changed my diet.
4
I fully agree. It is.
4
A thousand % better. Animal fats all the way.
4
Why do you say it's processed? There are processed meats but not fresh meat. Are you a vegan?
3
People don't overeat, they just eat the wrong foods. Did you say you're a scientist?????
3
People keep telling us that red meat is no good but we're made of the stuff, are we no good?
3
@erikq9788 I'd be asking myself what I eat with the meat. You're made of red meat.
3
It never fails to amaze me how vegan doctors and scientists come up with all sorts of ways around the subject "EXCEPT" the one on the plate.
3
Try living on sugar and see how long you live.
3
@MoonFlowerAlchemy Absolutely agree, which usually causes blindness and heart and kidney disease along with many other problems when left unchecked. Of course death will be the final result.
3
You're talking of bravery. Now think of something you actually fear and you might get there. Maybe if you were locked in a burning room unable to get out. That might bring up your stress a bit.
3
Fruit only ripens a few weeks a year. If you eat naturally, you would only eat it in the autumn. It's designed to fatten you up for winter when there's little else to eat.
3
Georgia is absolutely brilliant and solid gold to listen to. A really logical mind. Thank you both.
3
Absolutely.

Oh! He named 8 items that virtually make everything in the supermarket. Then they add chemicals and colours, flavours, preservatives and so many other things you'd never recognise and we're stupid enough to buy this stuff. Dr. Zoe Harcombe said: "Man is the only creature clever enough to make his own food, and stupid enough to eat it."
2
@MrTimcurtis Oh, I'm so sick of our poor cow being demonized when all that junk food like cereals in the supermarket gets a smile and pass.
2
@Mexicobeanpole I know this much. NO human being NEEDS carbohydrates. I know you get carbs from green vegetables, from seeds, grain, nuts, herbs, spices, fruit, honey, now, did I miss something?
2
Olive oil is (oh so often) mixed with cheap seed oils, flavoured and coloured so you can't tell the difference. Think for a moment how many bottles of olive oil are on the shelves of every supermarket in every town and city in the world. For it to be real we would have to have olive trees lining the streets all over the world. It's impossible. Even the experts in Spain can't tell the difference. What's more, we still find olives in the stores. Where do they come from?
2
Pills are not the answer are they, they are just adding to the problem. Or you just have to contribute another and another to the list. You're fighting an uphill battle with the supermarket and ignorant mothers who just want to feed their kids anything to shut them up. Anything for a bit of peace.
2
You have a very bad memory doc., or limited education. No one was starving for food seventy or eighty years ago. At least not in the West. Not even during WW2. They couldn't get sugar, WOW! That was wonderful. Best thing that could happen.
2
Where do you put a QR code on a cabbage? Or a steak?
2
And what other miracle foods and stuff have these people been fed to increase their stem-cells in that one month? Also, what makes you think that stem-cells floating around the blood steam is a good thing? Without doubt if you just added the chocolate drinks to their diet, you changed something else. You've removed something.
2
If it has a label on the packet with more than two items listed, then it's not good for you. I'll give you frozen vegetables, as long as they're just vegetables with nothing added, that's fine.
2
It wasn't that long ago seed oils and margarine were the gift of the gods too.
2
Unless you're a vegan I don't see your logic. And if you are a vegan, you're nuts.
2
We don't fill our body with calories. We burn them, your point of off whack. You're avoiding the subject by talking petrol and computers. Get on with the truth.
2
When I was a kid, even fish and chips were cooked in animal fats. They tasted fabulous.

The blood still goes through our body and our brain. It's the same blood.

@michaelacton6246 Where do they put it, in their boots?
1
@michaelacton6246 And what do they eat?
1
@rochellefreeland4338 Like I said: THE WRONG FOODS. I eat only one meal a day and a few coffees but, I eat a limited diet. NO SUGAR or oils. But I do eat a lot of fat, cream in my coffee for that matter. You can eat three meals a day, but you should know what it is your shovelling into yourself.

For someone who says LDL doesn't matter and he couldn't care less about it, he sure brings it up a lot.
1
@MrTimcurtis Cows have four stomachs to digest all that beautiful green grass and turn it into meat and fat for us to eat. They regurgitate it for hours, this is how they can make meat out of grass. We only have one stomach, just like a dog or a lion, or even a wolf. A digestive system of a carnivore in fact. It doesn't mean we can't eat vegetables but it does mean we can't live naturally without animals.
1
@juneelle370 That's like saying a real vegan has to only eat raw too. Crap. Don't talk rubbish. We as humans learned to make fires a long time ago, and it wasn't just to keep us warm.
1
Where's the cause?
1
This is really interesting, I don't see this sort of thing very often where people are actually talking about the food. Good on you.
1
Me neither, allergic.
1
I get the feeling he's a bit of a vegan so milk would be off the table. But as yet, I haven't seen it all.
1
It's not animals that make us sick, it's package foods that are mostly made with seed oils and sugars. Look out.
1
It isn't modern medicine that are not listening. It's big money makers and drug companies that don't want people to stop paying through the nose for their products.
