  2.  @lu544  Sorry, but you've made a classic mistake of lumping everyone on the other side into the same group. For some people, just calling themselves a woman (or a man) is what is being pushed. If you cannot accept someone just living their best life, then I think you have the problem. It's true that some will insist on you changing your language, too, but not all of them. There are trans people who are OK with you not calling them or considering them their self-identified gender.

  16. Anti-matter might help make it a lot easier to build a fusion rocket. Zap a pellet of fusion fuel with a bit a anti-matter and it could go boom, with fusion supplying most of the energy and the anti-matter only triggering it.

  30. AFAIK, it hasn't been measured and won't be measured in or lifetimes. It's something that should happen as a consequence of quantum mechanics and event horizons, so physicists don't have a good reason for it not to happen. You've probably never put on a top hat and a cape then held up a purple teacup and let it go . But you've got a pretty good idea what happens to the teacup.

  45. I don't think it's a science education issue, tbh. I think they're crazy. They're often really stupid, too, but they always seem to fight back against the people trying to educate them, even when those people suggest tests that the flat earthers can do themselves.

  46. It's probably a lot less. The USAF's total aircraft has a little over the number of 767s, most of which are fighters producing less CO2 per flight, and the air force flies them a lot less. But the trouble of asking militaries to make do without aircraft is that the one who complies for the good of the planet is the one who loses. And if all governments could be counted on to be good to their word, we wouldn't need militaries at all.

  47. This is unfortunate. I've been using "quantum" as a way to explain why it looks like the trash wasn't taken out. I told her that it was in a superposition of two states, taken out or not, and that she collapsed the wave function when she checked, so it's really her fault. The move toward realistic expectations was not something I was looking forward to.

  50. Java applets, XHTML, etc. The web evolves rapidly, but it generates dead ends rapidly too. I'm waiting for WASM to take off, any year now; and like Java, that too may end up running on the servers a lot more than on the client.
