  33.  @I_Am_Monad  Read Exodus 21 and Leviticus 25. Exodus 21 are the laws of god. It is permitted by the laws of the god of the Bible to own people as property. It is permitted to beat these people as well. It does indeed set some boundaries, but the boundaries are within the permit of owning other people as property. It even allows for passing these slaves down as an Inheritance. I am better aware of what it says than you are, clearly.

  45.  @dd64954  Considering that there is significant overlap between fundamentalist believers and MAGA, and their resistance to education and science, I’d say fundamentalist religious beliefs are a significant contributor. But sure, if our education systems were better designed to overcome faith based thinking, we’d be doing better. Distrust in our institutions can come from many places. Our institutions aren’t perfect. They’re just better than authoritarianism.
