  1. I seen it myself 15yo ago. In Groton CT. I dunno what it was. Fast. Will edit later on. Sorry was on dialysis. My friend and I absolutely saw one late at night when he was bringing me home. I saw something and was like huh that has weird lights. You see that? Is that a helicopter? So he stops the car and at the time we are thinking it is coming towards and nearly right above us. Yet after looking for a minute it hasn't moved at all so I tell him to turn off the car. Still nothing! So we get out of the car and it is just floating above us. Now here is the weird thing... We could see the silhouette of it in the shape of a triangle against the night sky. It had three light, and one bigger in the middle that reflected light weirdly - almost like looking at a red marble with an inner light. Yet there was no noise at all on top of it. So that either means the thing was massive and high up in the sky. Or super quiet and low to the ground... So it couldn't be a helicopter as I'm use to them. Anyway we are standing there for five minutes and this was right when cell phones had cameras so it had like 1 mega pixel, haha. He tried though. Anyway then it took off like a bat out of hell. There was no acceleration. Just standing still and full speed. It traveled north about a mile before going over a hill and tree line and then a split second later appeared where the hill dipped heading east over the ocean. With how fast it popped east I doubt it even turned - just a hard right like a upside down L angle. That acceleration and G force would have killed anyone. I only told a few people about the story. Years later an ex I told it to showed me a story about the TR3B and sure enough it is it. Amazes me how so many others seen it. I'm a skeptic yet I cannot deny what I saw. I won't pretend to know what it is or speculate. I just know what both of us saw and know how fast the f***ing thing went and that it was silent. I wish I had something to judge the size or speed of it, but it was a bright night sky with only some clouds. Darker then the night sky though! No sonic boom by the way - complete silence. Again it didn't acceleration not like a rocket. Shot off like a bullet. Total time was probably a bit less then ten minutes. When it was hovering it did absolutely nothing. Just hope it is on my side!

  3. I know a software engineer who was picked up by Grumman a while ago. He was into VR and said they can see everything like the F 35. No surprise there. Yet they can also use manual gestures to click on things through the VR. Like looking to the side or behind them, clicking on a target and selecting it to fire a missile or zoom into the ground. Then once looking at the ground they can guide a missile or bomb there themselves. They can use optical data links from other sources for this too. Basically they will be able to patch into drones and use that feed. After all the human brain is still better at discerning things. Nah I'm just playing. Who knows. I am sure they will get the F 35 display of augmented reality.

  6.  @colonel-klink14  I think they decided because the airframes are aging and technology has progressed so much in twenty years. Instead of having to spend the huge capital to jumpstart the manufacturing of it they decided to spend it on a newer one. I know they won't give any information but hopefully that one stealth ceramic that is much more durable, lasts longer, withstand extreme hot and cold temperatures while absorbing more is being used. From what I understand they've made and tested it. It just needs to figure out how to manufacture it en masse and worked with I guess.

  7. I wish they at least stated if the technology was worth it. Stealth helicopter just sounds like the dumbest thing to me. Yet if it could be invulnerable to lock ons by MANPADS then maybe not. Someone also said he saw one, and it was very silent. Not sure how much, but now I'm really curious if he is correct. I mean very silent for a helicopter is like saying a 9mm is silent compared to a 50cal. Like yeah I guess you're right, but you're still going to hear the 9mm no matter what!

  9. For sure. Sometimes it is better to wait for advances before creating something. I think the Zumwalt and LCS were ahead of their time. With ideas on modularity, easy to upgrade software, and advanced in computers were just not there yet. I think they would have been much better if they were on the drawing boards now compared to then. Also the Osprey. Even though it is the safest VTOL aircraft in service was ahead of its time too. The V 280 is a good example of then and now technology. Let's hope they work. In twenty years we will be seeing more tilt rotors I think simply due to electric motors, and batteries becoming more powerful. Much easier tilting an electric motor. (Not full EV, but hybrids.) Yet if they attempted that now I don't think it would be a good aircraft. Now we just need long stand off missiles that we can spam from cargo planes that are cheap, and with stealth.

  12. Yeah it is funny people calling America propaganda biased when comparing to China and Russia. Russia a known liar on capabilities. The F 35 and Osprey are so unfairly treated. F 35 is possibly the most dangerous of all fighters due to the way it works with specialized craft, and being a flying sensor suite. I haven't kept on the F 22 new upgrade. I hope the B 21 is also like the F 35. No reason why it cannot have a better sensor suite, and carry A2A missiles without help.

  13. I actually try bringing this up. I can never find the source of it though but the Black Hawk absolutely crashed a ton. I believe it was discussing the Osprey safety record and how it was largely overblown in comparison to other test helicopters (Let alone something so advanced. The Osprey did have huge loss of life per crash though, but avionics have become a LONG way and I hear it's easy to fly and transition. Politicians used it against others and the media is the media. Tilt powered aircraft are the future anyway because helicopters are reaching physicical limitation with retreating blade stall and supersonic tips. Better to learn how to use them now. Everyone said the Defiant was the clear choice.

  14. Agreed. Would love anything military related from Sandboxx... ALSO videos on Russian Air power used if possible. I get so much different information when I look into it as some is outdated for sure. I don't know the capabilities of a SU 35 for instance or the cost versus the Mig uhh 29. Starting with the SU planes still used. Or hell their avionics and how they compare to the US. Specifically the SU 25 Frog Foot and why it isn't as good as the newest A 10s - [something to do with the targeting.] Just more Sandbox! Best news for anything really.

  15. Yeah it just makes sense. I mean we still have other helicopters or platforms if you really need it. Shame. SF could've used a small helicopter like the Kiowa or further back the Little Birds. Those pilots can be a menace even with dumb rockets, and what... A 50cal? Waiting to see the attack variant of the V-280. Hope they do what they did with the Cobra. Take the platform and slim it down with room for just weapons.

  16. I am hoping the AF is simply waiting for the new engine, and active flow control technologies. We have new engines on the horizon. Rotating detonation; scram hybrids. I also saw a new electric/natural gas hybrid which was nuts too. Should be super sonic and sub sonic efficently. Alex touched on active flow which is super cool for better stealth. Going to have flying triangles soon. Perhaps UFO shape one day haha. Anyway future is interesting. I hope I live long enough to see it as I am terminally/chronically ill.

  17. Can't wait for the Navies next gen fighter. It is going to be a large interceptor. Huge radar, can carry huge missiles, long range, and super fast. It will be relatively mobile, but something tells me that will be low on the priority list. Basically a stealth Tomcat. You guys see the video on Boeing, and their new engines? Looks amazing, and a lot further along than I thought. Still think the Navy should create an even larger missile with even longer range, and design a new stealth AWACs that can rely targeting data to aircraft. Chinas priority will be our tankers, AWAC, and carriers.

A flying supersonic beast with four nuclear engines, and the ability to carry a ton of nuclear capable drones that are also hypersonic! Wait nay! Yeah they took down a drone but at a cost of a very expensive fighter. Then again you're probably right what the fuck do I know. I am more curious on what happened to the pilot. Can't be good for him, but Alex does state pilots are in very short supply. Can't believe they are using their instructors TBH - that didn't work well for Japan. You definitely want a lot of good people training the next generations.

  21. I think it is stupid we put in RnD, plus salary of soldiers. Those soldiers are enlisted anyway, and getting paid to do it regardless of whether the plane is flying or not. Is this not true? We don't do that with rifles do we? Like oh yeah we spent a million on testing this new Rifle. So add in 200$ right there per rifle. Oh add the salaries of the quarter masters, their tools, the trucks for the bullets, and all those in logistics. Don't forget the cargo ships, and the fees for the canals! Should be at least like 3 separate budget groups when the media states things. Like if there is a base already set up, and is permament. Do not include the costs of new equipment if it is there. I guess it is easier for the pencil pushers though overall so I get that. Alex do a story on black budget itemization. For instance is it true those overpriced screws and hammers are just a way for the military or AF to set aside money for projects or are vendors really price gouging the taxpayer. Probably a bit of both, eh?

  22. Yeah I thought even a buckled ship would take time. Yet nope. Especially when you realize water sealed doors would be in place during a war footing. No way they can escape. Even the surface of the ship gets rocked, and it flipped the camera. Your best bet would be to on the edge of the ship, on the deck, and get launched into the ocean. What a terrible way to die. Now imagine an amphibious assault on Taiwan with our fleet of stealth aircraft carrying these things. It would be a death sentence, although I am not sure how many bombs we could drop in one hit. Those ships would be packed to the brim with troops. It makes you realize how vulnerable our carriers are too.

It's like the F-35 losing dog fights. Once a fire is lit the embers last forever, and the media has no obligation of being objective. I mean the US army is pretty fucking conservative. If it was a death trap they wouldn't have picked it, and computing power and avionics make flying substantially easier. I'm glad it won. We will see how it plays out.

  24. Thought the Dutch have the machines to make the wafers. Then ASLM has the lithography and techniques right? While companies in America design the chips and send them to TSCM. I'm glad the US government is working on catching up. I also wonder what other links in the process a state of the art computer parts take in the manifactering. I also wonder what other electronic/instruments the military relies on that simply cannot be created without a solid base. like creating radar and electronic warfare. This is why I foresee cheap, easy to manufacter, drones being the future.

  26. Yeah I hate these half truths though. It is like saying, "Yeah I beat Mike Tyson in a fight. He couldn't use his arms... Oh and I had brass knuckles but it was just one that weighed 1 pound with no spikes. Dog fighting is dead for 99% of the majority. At first I thought the issues in Vietnam were down to missiles not being advanced and failing which did happen - yet I guess it was actually more to do with the fact that they had to make visual confirmation before engaging leaving all advantages out the window to a more nimble jet. Anyway I hope the war in Ukraine is shows people all targets are vulnerable. Nothing is invincible and history shows that.

Screw the naysayers helicopters are on limited time and tilt powdered craft are the future due to things like retreating blade, and supersonic blades. I wonder how tilt rotors deal with vortex ring state. Also I've seen videos of it being pretty nimble and pilots say it's easier to fly than one would think.

  29. I understood the fued. I understand war as terrible as it is. Yet a country that can produce such monsters in such abundance shall gain no pity from me. These vile creatures whom actions were recorded by their own hands did not spring from thin air. They were given birth, raised, taught, fed, housed, and supported by a culture where it is acceptable for a dominate organization to reign. They were supported, directly, and indirectly. They turned a blind eye, and in their negligence of action allowed this hate to seether until it manifested in what we saw today. I do not believe all cultures are just, "good", or deserve to exist the older i get. 1940s Germany was one of them, and it took the heavy handed strategies of the allies to put a stop for the future of those around them. I do not think the creation of Palestine would make a huge impact. Therfor I will choose the lesser of two evils, because Isreal is not without blame. I just hope Isreal doesn't become worse. Those collateral damage I attribute to Hamas for hiding amongst civilians. It is a terrible situation, and I hope the truly innocent do survive, and get assimilated into other cultures where such hateful rhetoric, and dispicble actions are not encouraged, or ignored. If I was in a Palestinians shoes? Well I wouldn't expect mercy that is for sure, and I wouldn't keep giving strawman arguments on why it was okay or happened... It doesn't matter why it happened, and there is no justification in the world to where it makes it okay to decapitate children. Again not all cultures deserve to exist.

  30. The AF I think did the right thing by pushing a new design in my opinion. One that didn't have to sacrifice so much for STOL like the F 35. So much technology has advandced since the F 22s inceptlon. At a rate that is mind blowing. Having a new platform ASAP I beleive is the right gamble. The Navy needs to hurry up with their massive interceptor. That thing better be fast as heck, a massive radar, and be able to carry missiles the size of telephone poles at mach 3, hah. (Big missile = more stand off range.). Oh and a lot of range.

  31.  @johndoe-cd9vt  Do you understand how important weapon systems, sensors, and stealth are? The Raphael would need to swarm one F-22 to beat it. I am not saying that the Raphael is bad. It is capable and cheaper. Politics fuck up the engineers with the military complex. We do need better missiles, air defense, and such things. I keep hearing about this airborne missile carrier since 2005 but it seems it never reaches a prototype.

  32. Oh we already have that. It is called Flak my man! No idea why we stopped using a proximity fuse for AA. If you want a more high tech version look no further than AHEAD ammo. I think what makes it special is that it explodes in a more uniformed wall of tungsten than normal flak. Instead of having a proximity radar inside the shell for ignition. Each fuse is set as it leaves the barrel by a computer to explode at a predetermined time. Why they felt the need to make it that way is beyond me. I mean the proximity fuse has been around since WWII, and was considered the 3rd most game changing technology. Sometimes I think we think more advanced is better... Anyway I'm all for laser technology yet I think we still need to make point defense systems from The Expanse a reality as well.

  33.  @ItsJoKeZ  I ask myself. Is a gesture necessary over a touch pad? When I was typing asked myself what is faster and more precice. Being able to quickly look and click, then zoom in and click in VR or on a touch pad? I think a combination of both. Have the seat rotate so say... The bomber is being follow by a squadron of fighters who knows it is in the area yet cannot get a target lock . The CO pilot can quickly turn, click on the nearest threats. Select the weapon, and fire off the required amount in under seconds if quick enough. I'm just tossing ideas. Buttons are very quick. I hope they gave it the capabilities to launch a massive amount of AA missiles. I remember watching Future Weapons or was it a special episode of Dogfights? Anyway it was like nearly 15 years ago, and they were talking about the F 35 sensor array being able to help other platforms. In this case there was F 35s outnumbered and they capped on a Bone that was converted into a missile truck. Using the data link they sent the information and it unloaded over 21 missiles or something . I'm not sure what came of the program to be honest. Ironically I was looking for it the other day but while it has or will be upgraded nothing there called it a missile boat like described.

They using some type of polymer made out of rhodium and magnetically locked Americium-241 because, fuck it, MERICA !CAW! for extra protection! Haha seriously though. Let's hope that newer Ceramic RAM does what they say it can and not bleed it dry for every penny. The cost per flight hour per aircraft has always been astounding to me.

  35. I second this. If active control and RDE/RAM engines on the horizon. I actually don't blame them for not going all in on a new fighter that doesn't have these technologies! A jet that flies without the typical flight surfaces would make one hell of a stealth fighter.

One - the weather and atmospheric conditions can greatly effect the efficiency of a laser to the point where it will be ineffective at destroying the target in time. Two - as hypersonics become faster and also will eventually have ones that are low flying cruise missiles means a laser system has a lot less time to destroy that target. They aren't instant kills when they hit like Star Wars ya know? You have to be on target until it melts through the missile and damages something important. So there will be a good old fashioned arms race. Lasers will get stronger but bigger and requiring more energy per kill. The more powerful the laser the less time needed to be on target and I am sure we will eventually be networking multiple lasers in a grid or something to be able to focus on one target. Missiles will become faster and faster and probably will benefit from material science and become armored against lasers. Like all armor you sacrifice speed and payload/range for protection. Remember the missile only needs to survive long enough to hit the target. So a terrain following hypersonic missile will have the benefit of being protected by the curative of the earth for much of its flight path unless we start sending lasers into atmosphere which I know we will. Maybe they'll make hypersonic missiles that are like tanks - can't manuever worth a donkeys arse and are super heavy but once flying it takes some explosion of something with mass to bring it down. Add in counter measures like MIRVS and such and it will be a good old fashioned arms race for sure with each system one upping the last. The Navy needs at least a 10mw laser fresken yesterday to protect our giant arse super carriers which will be a large juicy target. Even if we could pump them out training 6,000 men plus the pilots alone is a huge achievement. Takes a lot less effort and resources to create a bunch of hypersonic missiles and launch them over producing a single carrier. Glad we are starting to see the first generation lasers online even though the Styrkers keep getting pushed back for whatever reason but websites say they've been ready. Just a few minor touches... Whatever that means. Anyway hypersonics will not go away any time soon dude i promise you that.

It has to be worth the cost of maintenance as mothballing does cost money. I personally think there could be better uses for em but I'm just a dude behind a computer. I still could see the silhouette for much of it before only lights were visible so there is that. So maybe it was large and high up. Still I couldn't be certain. While it was over us it wasn't like Alex story where it was RIGHT there ominously about to scoop me up haha. Thank God my friend already went full X Files afterwards and even tried to say we lost a half hour of time.

  41. I thought it suffered from Vortex Ring State? It was an elite helicopter pilot. It was low visibility. They weren't told as it wasn't in the planning, and then when they went to land they couldn't see them through the optics. Then everyone forgets an other thing... Dust! When a helicopter goes to land dust starts kicking up way before. So yeah I could see the helicopter pilot not seeing a chain link at the last moment. Then the rotor wash of the second helicopter could have played a role maybe? I'm not sure how the mission was actually flown.

  42. I don't know about that much better handling. I've seen the Valor hovering being pretty nimble. Thought the pilot was losing lift or some shit and was about to run it into the wing into the ground but he was just showcasing its manueverability. In a real combat situation your going to try to come in swiftly, load unload, and get out. It seemed like it could do it just as well and the transition didn't seem to take long. Defiant does have the smaller area to fit into small places, and easier weapon placement. Still curious as how the Valor will be armed. Just some side guns I suppose. Speed is life, and range is always good to have. 1

  43. Any missile technology is good right now. That missile truck the USAF wants to build will seem viable. Having one plane dropping 60 plus cruise missiles with increased range make it more viable. Of course it will be paired with other aircraft to locate targets. Forgot the name of the units but the Wild Weasels was one.

  44. Also let us not forget the USAF has the b21s. I like the concept of missile boats. Having a huge stealth aircraft with huge sensors, linking with recon drones, and carrying either a ton of missiles, or more likely huge ones that can out range the enemies. That is a super dangerous combo.

I wonder if we have stealth missiles yet. The F 35 for sure is underrated, because the senors are the main part. I'm sure we will see in 40 years since the line keeps moving.

  46. I don't know. Space your open to weapons... Low flying at extreme speeds using the curvature of the earth to strike might be a better option. Either way there will definitely be military space aircraft. I foresee cheap swarms that fly like bats. I'm not fond of the kamikaze personally but that seems to be an other thing. One thing we haven't seen in Ukraine is the use of devastating weapons like the CBU 97. Could you imagine the devastation just a handful of those things could have caused in the beginning of the war? It would have been a blood bath and make a squadron of A 10s seem obsolete (which they pretty much are).

They are straight up price gouging tax payers. America cannot compete 1:1 against China. They have the resources mostly, and a much bigger population that is educated. They get more bang for the buck too as far as spending goes. Luckily America for the moment has a lot of allies. So we aren't alone. Yet if we don't do our best we will lose.

  50. Yeah . Do HARM missiles also target EW weapons? Would help taking out some of Russias EW capabilities since they have been successfull against our GPS guided munitions.
