  1.  @chrissmith7669  I think I get the gist. Have a link on the issue? So the wire harness is where all the wires that control the stabilizer were vulnerable to electric magnetic waves? Why did it do cause a short or just trigger some mechanical servo? You would think military aircraft would be epecially fortified against any type of electrical radiation. One of things that I did learn about this article is that this is the first ground up aircraft to be deigned using fly-by-wire. I forget how old our systems are how quickly technology has developed. They did update it to be Fly By Wire I guess in 2011.

  2.  @jtjames79  I can see something sort of happening in the future for a parachute. Think more Titanfall esque falling that could cushion a fall to 10mph along with a wing suit. Using it in a pinch to actually fly for short bursts or use it to go up steep terrain at slower power. Waiting on all these new battery technologies that are supposedly going to revolutionize the world. Energy density is the biggest issue by far.

Either way congress needs to stop just trying to screw each other over. Americans need to realize one reason that inflation is so bad is due to America losing dominance. All these conflicts are killing trade, and we NEED a strong military to keep the New World Order running. (After WWII) We did it during the Cold War. We can do it now. Canceling this fighter will leave us vulnerable unless they are confident they can replace it quickly. (Yeah right)

  6.  @jamesgornall5731  Agreed and my thoughts exactly. I feel like super carriers are going the same way too unless the Navy gets those 500kw to 1MW lasers into play. However I do see active protection systems being more advanced and complimenting armor for the next decade or so. Armor will be about protection against shrapnel and explosions or smaller arms. Yet the era of a tank just being a juggernaut is probably surpassed now. I'd still love to see what a modern Maus or Tank Destroyer would be like though! How much armor would it require for it to be nearly impenetrable from anything a soldier or other MBT. Issue is the roads. We maybe able to make heavier tanks but roads and bridges are already a significant issue for tanks like the Abraham's. No point in having any tank if you can't move it no matter how slow.

  8. It will help. However it will take a hell of a lot more! We need more tankers and more importantly superior AWACs! For both the Navy and the Airforce if we are to compete. It will be real interesting what would happen if they actually did invade. Would they start attacking airbasis in Japan, Phillipines, South Korea, and other allied countries? We definitely need more for less. We are losing badly on the manufacturing part which is why we need to be smart.

  9. ​ @perryallan3524 The J58 is not more advanced than the f119. First off the f22s has 40% more thrust at 35% reduced weight. That is amazing. It is way more efficenf at the lower flight envelopes. Secondly the engine has both thermal, and EM stealth. Is thrust vectoring. More durable, reliable, and can handle anything the F22 pilot throws it the entire flight envelope. It doesn't leak. Focusing on stealth is the reason why we do not have hybrid engines in a fighter. Up until recently stealth materials could not handle the higher heats, and pressures at those speeds. Also then the Cold War ended.. we didn't really need super expensive, advanced, spy planes to spy on some goat herders hiding in caves. So would I say the j58 was a greater miracle of design for its time? Yes. They were geniuses with what tools they had. Yet the f119 is much more advanced overall. I wonder why we never had pulse engine planes really.

  10. Conventional skeets? So it is a cruise missiles and not a drone correct? Says it's nuclear and the 177c is conventional but doesn't state what type of warhead. Something about skeets is terrifying but insanely awesome. Especially CBU 97! It's incredible that one bomb can do so much damage. The entire design is genius.

  12. Yeah it makes them suprisingly accurate. Great for the 1970s, but the question is what about now when a ballistic computer can calculate on fly while flying! It is a limiting factor if you can also get nearly as precise with a fully rotating turret. Then you can shoot at any angle basically.

  13. @duidave4737 The reason they charge so much is do to insurance companies fixing the price mate. The way they negotiate the fees on what costs what. Hospitals do play a role, but not as big as you think. Thehe doctors or staff have no say. The massive effin conglomerates do who run the place, and are for profit. A hospital can't say we will charge this much for X, Y, and Z. The problem is health care is for profit. Also the bills you see aren't the actual price people are billing. Even you can just argue your price of the bill down significantly. Just literally be like I'm not paying that. I can work with you, and pay blah blah. I've known people who knocked their price down to 40% of the original bill on their own.

  14. Russia was launching our stuff into space. Their nukes are still good as we use to had people checking them out. You guys underestimating our enemy is a good way to be suprised. Guys are the true reason why our military has some issues. We can't sit back on our laurels, and take Russia, and especially China as inferior in every metric.

The section of oceon from the Persian Gulf to Alaska/Russia must have at least a dozen at one time crawling with them and allies. Makes me wonder how many of our subs are on active duty patrolling at any given moment. And how many submarines of all nations are in the oceon playing hide and seek or actively pinging cruise boats haha. Has to be over 100.

  16.  @generalrendar7290  Also ships are moving in 3 demensions and carriers move extremely fast so any hiccup in that kill chain even for a fraction of a second may lead the missile to completely miss. That's because I believe the hypersonic missiles now are boost phase only and glide on the way down. The US hypersonic missiles in development are more like cruise missiles from what I've read. Still hard to shoot down I guess but I'm not exactly sure why that is? Then again I am nobody and I don't understand why many of our anti air guns and missiles are kinetic kill instead of some type of directional proximity fuse explosive. Surely a cloud of flak would be easier to hit everything from small drones to hypersonic missiles. Hell why not create a bird shot style gun firing 3,000 rounds that have thousands of tungsten pellets or something. (Obviously for last moment defense.) I know Sky Shield uses AHEAD ammo but the US uses HE or armor piercing. PS correct me if I am wrong about the hypersonic missiles.

  17.  @MrTornadoman97  Yup and I hope the Army made sure to not go cheap when it comes to sensors controlling the flight computer and it is as redundant as Bell claims. The thing can fly it's self already which I did not know. I shouldn't be surprised. Large foot print, weapon placement, and the fact it cannot auto rotate (huge amount of discussion on this topic. Some say tilt rotors can, and some say it's better to try to glide it down. Ill leave that to the experts.) At least it can glide though! I think the superior range and speed make up for it. Speed is going to be life.

We need to expect our defense companies to actually do more for less honestly if we stand a chance. The DoD really needs to start funding these small starts ups who aren't out there purely for stock holders.

  19. Why do we spend so much on fighters... I don't understand our obsession. Long gone are the days of 1,000s of aircraft in the huge swarms until drone Swarms with AI become a thing. I am glad we are not sitting on our laurels but why not invest in some other airframes. Rapid Dragon I think it's called seems like a cool concept. How about a new A10. A cheap armored tank that can loiter and support troops. I saw a video of a gunship concept that was interesting. Think of a decently sized aircraft that can rain 155mm shells miles out of view using balastic computers to aim. Why use shells? Cost. It would have the ability to loiter a hundred miles out and fire at sectors and could get to hotspots in a jiff. Rugged enough to be near front line strips, simple to maintain, and nothing fancy. Just literally a flying artillery piece. Pair it with a recon drone and watch sectors go to hell.

  20. I seen a crafts silhouette at night with my friend that hovered there silently for about 5 minutes. Enough for us to stop the car, notice it wasn't making a noise although we could see the silhouette at night! Anyway it was a triangle shape with three whitish feint lights on the ends, and a black reflector reddish light in the middle. We thought it was a helicopter, but couldn't hear it. Yet again could see the outline. Anyway after trying to take a photo of it with 2006 cell phone tech (lol). It finally flew off. That thing flew off like it was fired from a gun. It had basically zero acceleration, before vanishing over a hilll with trees miles away. Far enough to make me turn my head following it, and then popping back out heading east over the horizon towards the ocean. Now I won't begin to say what it was. All I know is it hovered in places for minutes, it was silent and people cannot handle that type of accerlation. It flew faster than videos of missiles. I will not say it was this or that. Just telling you all what I saw. Hope I get to know what it was before I die or a solid video.

  21. Have Elon Musk make a smaller reusable rocket and module platform for testing purposes. Think of it as a blank canvas you can relatively easily mod and is recoverable and refuelable. Doesn't need to land standing up or nothing fancy. Play on his ego and I bet he would bite.

  23. I've seen a black triangle UFO with my friend in Groton CT. We were driving at night and saw it, and I was like what is that. We stopped looking for my wallet and there it was above us just hovering. It had a light in the middle and I could see the shilloutte against the night sky. Which is weird because that either meant it was extremely large since I could see the shape of it, but that meant it was also super quiet. Helicopters are loud AF and planes don't hover for a few a minute and this thing was just hovering over us for a few minutes. Then it accelerated instantly north wnd was almost over the horizon in seconds and banked east towards the ocean. No pilot could survive Gs like that. I don't know what it was and I wish cellphones had good cameras back then. (This was before Iphones). The light reminded of someone shining a light through a red marble. It was in the middle. I don't know what it was but I know I wasn't crazy. Nothing I know is that silent, and fast.

Thought we (US) were going to test a new ASAT or that we shot down one in the past two years.   28. They have definitely failed. Now however I think war has iust changed a lot... As I'm typing this? I just saw videos pointing out Ukraine has tried attacking and it did not go well. Over 100 vehicles confirmed destroyed from video it seems in the last week from a multiple attacks. I honestly stopped watching the video as it was depressing. I don't need that shit today but it did not look good. NATO dropped the ball - too little too late and Russia had all the time in the world to dig in and fortify... Blah. Hope I'm wrong. Cheers guys.

  30. In Connecticut around 2006, when flip phones with crappy cameras were still a thing. Just like Alex, a friend and I saw the Tr3-B at 11pm at night time. It caught my eye, because we could see the silhouette in the sky, hovering, but no noise. I had my friend turn off the car engine. Nothing. It had 3 lights on the corner, and a weird reddish one in the middle. Reminded me of a red marble reflecting light out. It hovered for about 5 minutes plus one or minus before just heading off like a bullet with nearly no acceleration. Went north over the horizon in seconds, before popping out east a second later. No human can take those Gs! That was what really made us think WTF. It is very difficult to judge sizes high up in the air at night. So it wasn't till Alex released his story before I realized it was actually big, and high up. I sort of thought it was, but could never confirm. It could have been small, and completely silent. It is crazy both Alex, my friend and I saw it in Connecticut. Not sure if our timelines were similar. Anyway I type this to just hope that was one of ours, lol. I personally not jumping to conclusions like my friend did. Whatever it was I hope it was America's. I also hope no human was in that aircraft, because my god. It just seemed to whizz off more than fly off. The turn/bank from North to East must've been like a right angle!

  31. Wonder why we dropped the Super Sonic strategic bomber. I saw a video of a new Russian super Sonic bomber concept but think that was made up because I can only find information on the PAK-DA. I guess we are leaning on loitering using stealth to reduce detection range with stand off weapons. Or the AF and other countries are waiting for hypersonic aircraft to be ready in the next few decades.

  32. In Groton CT? My friend and I absolutely saw one late at night when he was bringing me home. I saw something and was like huh that has weird lights. You see that? Is that a helicopter? So he stops the car and at the time we are thinking it is coming towards and nearly right above us. Yet after looking for a minute it hasn't moved at all so I tell him to turn off the car. Still nothing! So we get out of the car and it is just floating above us. Now here is the weird thing... We could see the silhouette of it in the shape of a triangle against the night sky. It had three light, and one bigger in the middle that reflected light weirdly - almost like looking at a red marble with an inner light. Yet there was no noise at all on top of it. So that either means the thing was massive and high up in the sky. Or super quiet and low to the ground... So it couldn't be a helicopter as I'm use to them. Anyway we are standing there for five minutes and this was right when cell phones had cameras so it had like 1 mega pixel, haha. He tried though. Anyway then it took off like a bat out of hell. There was no acceleration. Just standing still and full speed. It traveled north about a mile before going over a hill and tree line and then a split second later appeared where the hill dipped heading east over the ocean. With how fast it popped east I doubt it even turned - just a hard right like a upside down L angle. That acceleration and G force would have killed anyone. I only told a few people about the story. Years later an ex I told it to showed me a story about the TR3B and sure enough it is it. Amazes me how so many others seen it. I'm a skeptic yet I cannot deny what I saw. I won't pretend to know what it is or speculate. I just know what both of us saw and know how fast the f***ing thing went and that it was silent. I wish I had something to judge the size or speed of it, but it was a bright night sky with only some clouds. Darker then the night sky though! No sonic boom by the way - complete silence. Again it didn't acceleration not like a rocket. Shot off like a bullet. Total time was probably a bit less then ten minutes. When it was hovering it did absolutely nothing. Just hope it is on my side!

  36. If we could get metal air batteries to work we would have some. Lithium air has the same energy density as kerosene. Well like 1,000 watts less. It has 12,300 watts per KG. Now for reference a Tesla battery pack is sitting at 240-280 watts per KG. So if we get even 50% of that. I think we could have a useful battery. Mind you it would still need to have to be able to charge it every 24 hours. Yet still. Imagine a true style power armor for short airborne assaults. By the way. An other technology we need is a small jet pack that only is powerful enough to act like a parachute. I think we could do that. Incredibly small pack that allows SF to literally drop from the sky from any aircraft, and hit the floor running. Get some Titan Fall pilots before exoskeletons.

  37.  @OneBotsman  First exos will be powered frames, with a kitted helmet with optics. First will basically an exoskeleton that allows you to carry more with less exhaustion over distances. Then start increasing strength and speed while adding armor. Hopefully exo skeleton armor would be modular. Be able to put bigger plates on the front to protect you up to 14.7mm. Mission dependent. That would be super nice to have in an inner city conflict while on the offensive! (Or SF missions.) Lack of a solid power source is the problem! We definitely can make it happen with todays tech if we had something that could power it. I am hoping all this EV and robot research trickles to exoskeletons. If you can make a robot. You can make an exo.

  40. Sadly as much as I really want an airplane rocking a 155mm fully turreted gun sniping bitches from 100 miles away with advanced ballistic computers, and raining hell?! I gotta say the best use is definitely a cruise missile carrier to destroy CCP navies apparently massive fleet of Junks. Fly right above the water to avoid radar for as long as possible, possibly with a ton of decoys, and fire off cruise missiles. Hitting targets of significant value. Hell I'm pretty sure it can come from the north pole if refueled, and go through Russia to hit China! Oh God I would love to see that, although it would probably not be wise... It would be a huge "fuck you ya fake commies!" I still want to see a tank turret on a damn aircraft. Gut an Osprey, Cobra style, and put the Abraham Xs 120mm which I guess is half the weight of the m256 120mm.

  41. ​ @havoxaerthis7904 So hypersonic vehicles create a sheathe of plasma around them, which absorbs radar signals, regardless of material of the actual missile. I think they also absorb radio, and GPS. Ironically that same heat and plasma that would make them otherwise very stealthy also makes them light up like a comet to other forms of detection! There will be a trail of heat. So stealth really won't be a strength, sort of. I can see a hypersonic missile that cruises stealthily till at a specific moment before accelerating. It will be an interesting arms race to say they least. I still think missiles and guns will be the better option against hypersonic. Lasers for everything else. Need to start making 120mm naval guns that fire at 200rpm, sending guided flak.

Never in the world since I've been alive has our military budget or weapons been put to such good use as they have been in Ukraine. Dollar for dollar we are getting the deal of a generation. They are bleeding Russia dry with so many disadvantages. It is insane how well they've done honestly. I actually don't understand why Republicans support Isreal as much as Ukraine. What happened to that party? They've completely lost their collective minds since Obama became president. They want to cozy up to Putin who would like nothing else better than to destroy America or weaken us. It is wild. Reagan and Nixon must be rolling in their graves. I will take a Nixon clone please. Even someone like Reagan as far as military spending went.

Like I said China will over match us in the future at this rate. Look at the rate they are pumping out platforms to counter us. It isn't even comparable at all. The number of stealth jets will over take us soon, and you realize that right? Their supply chains are efficent. Purposed built. Ours are not, and scattered. Our Military industrial Complex is inefficient compared to theirs. Especially when they keep stealing designs. Again the cost parity IS leagues different. Ours is focused on profit. Nickle and diming us. Chinas is focused on production. They are pumping out versions of their own much faster for less, period. It doesn't have to be better. Just good enough or not trash. War is a also a numbers game, especially when you have to cross an ocean to attack. The CCP can swivel on a dime. Force workers to do what they want without bureaucracy. They are not spending billions in military conflicts over seas. Much of our weapons goes to our allies. They have over a billion more people. Their schools are expanding, and are doing better. I'm sorry, but it is people like you who underestimate China, and the reason we will lose. They are catching up fast. If their long range missiles perform as they claim. Then US carriers can't even attack China without being vulnerable to getting hit themselves. US power is waining, because we aren't focused. China for all its woes does not have this issue. They are catching up very very very fast. I give it ten years, especially when our companies care more for profit then anything else.

Wait till maybe not sixth gen but seventh with X 65 technology that allows an aircraft to fly using no flaps or physical flight surfaces. Basically just flying with compressed air or I guess electrical pulses with multiple thrusters around the aircraft. No idea how an electrical pulse can work that way. I think it was about super heating the air. Add RDE (rotating detonation engines)? The future will be wild.

It doesn't include all the F18s, F 15s, F 16s, and F35s that may be in range to hit them either from Japan. (And eventually B21s) It is really no wonder why the CCP isn't keen on invading Taiwan. It would be suicide. Nice thing about the Quick sink is it can go on every bomb we use much like a JDAM. 500 pound bombs and up, and I am positive that test used two 500 pound bombs, which are the smaller end,and it wrecked what is essentially a small carrier. Amphibious Ships are quite large. It doesn't include our cruise missiles launched from Rapid Dragon, and other aircraft. (Or Taiwan using HIMARS). Almost forgot Submarines with their new Tomahawks that can also strike naval vessels. Or torpedos too which I know absolutely nothing about. I don't wish for war. Yet if we do go to war I want it all recorded. For uh prosperity.

  46. Isn't that why transponders exist? Now if militaries started using them with a civilian transponder I would understand. Outside of that... Well you probably shouldn't be flying near a war zone ya know? I would take that as collateral damage any day of the week as terrible as that sounds. We absolutely should be using 7x7s for our military. Well if we could make a more efficient jet for things like refueling then I'm all for it, yet I feel like that would cost billions, and it wouldn't get the benefit of cheaper parts or maintenence. I am surprised we haven't attempted to launch one off an aircraft carrier.

  47.  @z_actual  There's tons of different systems. We use GPS interchangeably but it's been upgraded by Lockheed Martin. I guess GLONASS does have better accuracy due to more ground stations. That's what some articles say so who knows I sure don't. Interestingly the newer NAVATAR IIF will be much better and can work using other constellations. Wonder how hard it is to jam a satellite.

  48. When people compare military spending between countries. They don't even do it right. They don't factor in cost parity. As in China gets more bang for each buck. They pay their people and soldiers less. They pay their companies less for research and development. A dollar is worth more than their currency meaning they get more. Anyone under estimating them is an idiot.

  49. ​ @kdrapertrucker Who cares about speed if you do not have stealth. You would be blown out of the sky before you could even use any of your weapons. Anyway radar absorbing paint and ceramics have fixed this issue while increasing radar absorbing potential. They also have become much cheaper, and easier to maintain. That is always what kept newer jets from having more speed than older aircraft. I am looking forward to sixth gen aircraft personally. Especially this aircraft. The F 35 was such a mistake even though it is a really great aircraft. They should have at least just had two variants, and made an aircraft specifically for the USMC.

  50. Also they are more like ICBMs that boost and after that use lifting body to glide and manuever to the target. They don't have a level cruise missile flight path like America's hypersonic missiles in current development are suppose to. Yet I hear tons of conflicting data so who knows. Also we don't know how good their kill chain is which is a huge part of actually hitting something like an aircraft carrier in maneuvering, bobbing up and down, left and right. People think aircraft carriers are slow because of their size but they can book it when needed. Like you said though if you're slinging nukes ya down need to be precise.
