@p_akistani1687 I dont believe Imran is that stupid.

Maybe, but the aim is to produce aircraft that have wings that can morph into different shapes to suit different flight profiles. The next generation for swing wing I guess. I first heard of this 20 years ago.

Well that’s the Russian fantasy, as usual not the reality. Ukraine just intercepted 3 of them.

I think the public have been conned somewhat, I do not think these missiles are capable of mach 10 or 12, I base that on the donor weapon it is based on, they just operate beyond the engagement envelope of current Ukraine AD systems in altitude performance and speed. It`s an Iskander M adapted for air launch. People have bought into the idea that a supersonic Mig-31 carrying a supersonic short ranged ballistic missile makes it a wonderweapon. That MIG will not be rated to travel very fast carrying one of those weapons it`s on the MIG because it is large enough to carry it, has the ground clearance and thrust to take it up to higher altitude to launch it to give it greater range. An SU-27 probably lacks the dynamics to do it. Once UKR gets Patriot and SAMP-T operational they will be able to successfully engage a few of them but they will never have enough launchers to cover every target. What I find most interesting is these missiles have been fired in a salvo of 6 and UKR airspace is under high density of surveilance, so lots of radars wll have looked at these missiles are well as space based assets - we know exactly what its capabilities are in terms of speed and altitude, granted they could have clipped some of its manouever capability but not its speed. So, nobody is talking, which is normal, we dont want them to know what we know.

@jasonsadventure Neptune has a much smaller warhead than an AGM-84, in fact half the weight. Mind you I’d swap every Harpoon I had for one of those Russian bruisers. Their stuff used to terrify me.
1
They are pretty outmoded in 2022, although still pack a punch and fly very low and would still clean clean clock in a salvo launch. Unfortunately not the right fit for Ukraine, somebody would have to donate Harpoon land based systems to them and there aren’t many people who are ant to do that. The U.K. doesn’t have them for a start, only surface ship GWS60 and we don’t have many of those left. There were also a few air launched versions but they are probably in a bunker gathering dust next to the sub launched weapons.
1
@jasonsadventure Neptune can’t either now they’ve withdrawn the ships beyond its reach.
1
@jasonsadventure not really, their Kalibrs still hugely outrage Neptune. I doubt there was ever going to be a landing at Odessa anyway. The threat the Ukrainians face from the sea are small troop insertions and possibly shelling from smaller vessels. Hardly Neptune fodder.

@panda123id LockMart can build 6,000 M31 a year. That is without any ramp up of production and there are of course huge stocks available in the US and Europe.

@antyspi4466 UKR has destroyed 30 Ammo dumps and continues to do this every day.Cant tell me that has no material impact on their operations. They have already moved major staging out of HIMARS range.
1
@RUTHLESSambition5 Nobody has sold a HIMARS, it is much more lileky your mother has been sold on the open market to a Russian BTG.
1
No, there were plenty of VDV units in the north, but they melted away like everyboody else.

In the Cold War the entire WARPAC was a paper tiger but nobody would believe it.

To be fair, Trump wanted those parades.....

@kelvinw.1384 half of them are over 50 mate…
1
@neutrino.science.defense I don’t believe it has a scramjet - likely a hybrid ramjet. And if AD is expecting it - they can be shot down, Ukraine just proved it by taking out all 3 aimed at Kyiv.

@superwout None of those systems can counter a top down Javelin. For hard kill those systems would have to shoot upwards and outwards, thus killing your supporting infantry, which is why the projectiles fire upwards and explode downwards. As for soft kill systems, they cannot elevate high enough to influence the Javelin seeker, or even detect the missile that is the current hypothesis. They have relied on their ERA and base armour, although Shtora has been seen it doesnt seem to work very well. As for the 3rd gen system on Armata, it faces the same contraints as the other systems. Since the sanctions, unless they have previously bought a lot of stock, the western components of its FC system will be cut off so not much chance of seeing many new T-14s unless they can sourceand integrate components from China.
1
@jonathanpfeffer3716 No matter the system, any hard kill is always limited by the need to not kill supporting infantry close to your tank. Thats the kicker for these system`s capability.
