why you guys hating on Elon so much?
9
@bitskit3476 it’s the active ingredient in bud lite

The only reason to think antimatter would exhibit antigravity is that they both have "anti" in their name. We would have been spared this concern had it been called "conjugate matter". edit: still, it's a good experiment
9
Or I was told to post this by my supe at you tube. They was to by the fbi what to post, cause democracy and stuff
9
"EINSTEIN WRONG!" is a pretty good headline tho.
9
@KerbalFacile is that a pun or a misspelling?
9
magnetic fields don't penetrate superconductors 😞
8
quick English note (as someone who lived in DE, this is a classic mistake): "143 nm is just about in the UV" means it is NOT in the UV, but really close...like UV starts at 120 nm or something. I believe you meant: "143 is barley in the UV". I know, they sound identical, but they are not. E.g, in a race "You barely won" means you won by a smidge, "you just about won" means a silver medal.

Emoton.

@frankupton5821 Darwin's ideas are largely ignored, so what's the difference?
8
Big Rust has entered the chat.

publish or perish

@shivakoliar4846 no thanks. I. Like guns, cars, pickles, leather, women in leather, ice cream, gold, …and I like going out for food and really cold drinks . With 🧊 even. I like solid colored clothing, and my girl likes hot pink lingerie. She has a bright pink AR15 …I can’t tell you how it was made on you tube cause of censorship…but you know what I mean. Its done in 9, mine is three oh eight black out

Every reactor needs a safe word, and it’s neither scram nor insert the control rods.
8
this isn't contrarian at all. The people who go into neutrinos have foresworn a Eureka moment, and it takes a long time to do almost anything.
7
It's was Eve who broke the symmetry. She ate the fruit from The Tree of the Non-Zero Higgs Vacuum Expectation Value.
7
so instead going "|100>", you're like..."I'm like in Greenland on the Bloch-Sphere".
7
One of the "V"s (sauce or eritasium) has video with an 1899-artist's concept of life in 1999, and it is just that: windmill and steam powered flying machines
7
How do you get tenure at a good university when the FFC is decades out (publish, ofc, but publish what?)? And when it is built, it will need 10,000+ student and post docs...how many 2 year post docs can you do in a row, bouncing around academia? Do you check any hiring boxes? Is your PhD going to be searching through "used" data for a bump--with ML, ofc, so your advisor can get tenure? js/
7
So I read that the 1st LIGO detection (which was a ridiculously tiny measurement), involved a GW with a graviton occupation number on the order of 1e30. So we're not seeing gravitons anytime soon.
7
@koenschouten7994 this is NOT Cunningham's law....it's Greenspun's Tenth Law, poser!
7
it's not the size of the wave function, but the rotation of the phase.
7
neutrinos were ad hoc. so was color charge. heck, the higgs boson was ad hoc.
7
wait, where does Neil's logic fail?
7
not exactly. If you're born to two for sure (maybe one) American citizen(s) outside the states, you're good to go.
7
I don't believe in burning books, but if I did, that would be the 1st one. He's a crackpot that can do math. But seriously: you will gain no insight into the wonders of physics reading him, nor watching his yt channel.
7
one way to do that is look at the mirror nucleus, which would be carbon-10. The nuclear force is symmetric under p, n -> n, p interchange, with any difference resulting from electric effects (and chiral symmetry breaking.,..but there's alway a caveat in any nuclear physics statement)
6
QCD has 8 gauge bosons. They all point indifferent directions in an 8 dimensional space that doesn't matter, but it's still is 8. (Unlike the weak force, where there are 3 abstract directions that do matter, and other complications).
6
@Thomas-gk42 north is the top. Look at a map.
6
It starts in a pure state: |resin>|hardener>, and then goes to a mixed state: |r><r| + |h><h|, makes perfect sense.
6
room temperature superconductors have left the chat.
6
Well axions are an old theory, and weren’t introduced to solve dark matter. So this is a cheap experiment that may have have a huge payoff….very much like a lottery ticket.
6
In the US, we just try to remove people from the ballot, or throw them in jail. Sometimes the only way to save democracy is to not allow the people to vote wrong.
5
she mentioned the input ones, but how to you capture the output? neutrons be like:
5
that's because you don't understand Obama's Peace Prize.
5
@emalee8366 not really. The people who do this stuff have very low IQs, and when they "get scared", and they do scare easily, they start busting caps or taking part in other mayhem.
5
when you plot 1000 different things, you get about three 3-sigma signals, right?
5
Don’t trivialize genocide
5
trend?
5
and they are wondering why they can't detect our pheromones.
5
In future, AI turn you off!
5
that's why he had a press conference everyday with the two top government scientists, last time.
5
So went from making up particles to making up universes. Progress.
5
It’s the coefficient, or weight, of the position eigenstate |x> in the state |psi> = sum over all X of psi(X)|x>? Maybe. All I know for sure is that Born was Olivia Newton John’s grandfather.
5
There are few tech mommies leaning in, too. They are also insufferable.
5
omg, this is so true with "what is an atomic orbital".
5
but the climate catastrophe needs more than CO2, it needs all kinds of positive feedback loops to go from pleasant warming to certain existential threat.
5
@aupotter2584 no. The standard model is QCD, 3 color charges for quarks or 3 anti color anti quarks and 8 color/anti color gluons binding them together, with the experimental fact that all observed states are colorless….leaving 3 quark baryons (and anti versions), and also q qbar mesons. The strong force is then the residual force between baryons and mesons, with the mesons acting as force carriers that bind baryons. In regular nuclear physics the baryons are just neutrons and protons (see: hypernuclei for more), and a plethora of meson “currents”. Nuclear structure is so far removed from QCD, it’s hard to link them….maybe in the EMC effect or Color Transparency….but idk what the status of those are. It would be like learning about maxwells eqs from the vanderwalls force….too many complications.
5
Stop crustal cooling now! Which way to the Rembrandts? 🍜
5
pls, no more "both sides". Spend 2 days in public advocating each side, see which one gets you injured. Repeat for statical significance, if you're still undecided.
