  10. Excellent explanation. I love the way you handle the frustration with humor. Math and physics appear mystical and totally opaque to most people. Since I rarely comment let me just say I watch all of your videos and really enjoy your content even though I never made it past differential equations and dropped out of a complex analysis class. Switched from math to engineering - much easier 😏

Perhaps she will address that in another video because a lot of comments expressed concern about that. But even so, she can only discuss it from a technical perspective. She can't really speak about the political or social aspect.

  20. @Terry Bollinger  there must be scientists and engineers working on it somewhere. Pretty much spent a year of o-chem studying everything you can do with a string of carbon atoms. I would imagine chemical engineers have thought about something like this before. 🤔

  23. A republic is just an implementation detail of democracy. As long as the government and its policies are somehow chosen by the people, it is a democracy. Representative democracy is just a practical solution.

  27. Something rather than nothing. None of those answers is very satisfying. I would answer (just my opinion) "I also wonder about that but I have no idea". We can't perceive a reality that is nothing rather than something". I think therefore I am - and once you are nothing is inconceivable.

  33. @subconsciousness7577  a planned economy depends on the state read the minds of each citizen and determine their priorities. Then it has to anticipate the exact skills and knowledge required for production and force its people to work as determined by the plan. Producers have to sell at predetermined prices and pay predetermined amounts for labor and materials. It cannot be as effective as a free market and allow its citizens any kind of economic freedom.

  34. @JoJofghj  correct, but we can approximate ideal conditions through legislation. Anti-monpoly, complete transparency, measures to account for externalities, etc. Even with less than ideal conditions, it's better than a planned economy.

  35. @JoJofghj  in a free market over and under production are correct through supply and demand implemented by consumers, not the government. If you prefer the government to step in, then it's a personal preference, not an economic argument.

  36. @Zift_Ylrhavic_Resfear  if the total amount of food they sell is greater than demand the the price will fall, and less food will be produced. Equilibrium will naturally be restored by the consumers and producers, not artificially by force of the state.

  39. @Zhwazi  I suppose the response varies. I just know that where I work, all of the social circles I'm in, and every place I go, coming out as trans is celebrated. Subjective? Yes. Anecdotal? Yes. Nevertheless, my reality is that trans identity is viewed very positively.

  40. Engineering is a lot easier than QM. It was a lot more empirical than I expected when I was in school. In most of my classes we learned "ideal" equations for phenomena and switched to calculations based on tables of empirically derived values.

  49. We were warned all the way back in the 70s that global warming was a clear and present danger. The warnings have continued ever since. I'm sure it's a problem, but it's getting harder to believe it's an urgent problem.
