Yes, the unpleasant comments are counterproductive. Only observation without judgement will lead to understanding and only then will a meaningful conversation take place. Offensive comments will only alienate the people we hope will see the light someday. Russians have been crushed by tyranny for centuries, change will be slow and we need to be patient.
2
Or they are taught but not accurately.
2
Not at all true. I have engaged with commenters that are in favor of Putin and that support his war. Way more freedom of speech on YouTube than in Russia.
2
😂 made me laugh
2
Do Russians have access to Orwell's books? I wonder what they would think about 1984 and Animal Farm. To some extent they actually describe the current reality (1984) and history (Animal Farm) of Russia.
2
@asisjaj6849 maybe the authorities don't realize the implications and resemblance to Russia and to it's history. Or maybe most Russian readers reject comparisons to their own country. Both of those books only became relevant again because of the attention Russia is getting right now.
2
@Vagodroch3rz if what you say is correct then why isn't there more push back against the war? Putin can't put half the country in jail.
2
@Vagodroch3rz I understand. I just hope that after Putin you get a government that cares more about the people instead of making you suffer for his own obsession with restoring the Russian empire. My family escaped Russia when Stalin came to power otherwise I could be your neighbor.
2
Not exactly sure what you mean but anyone with a heart has to feel bad for the poverty in rural areas driving young men to enlist and probably die on the battlefield. The real evil is Putin and the siloviki.
2
Do you live in Russia Alex Miller? Where do you get your information?
2
@kathcasey2090 I've lived in California my whole life. My ancestors escaped from Eastern Europe and Russia between 1880 and 1945. My mother was the last to get out when Stalin's cruelty became evident. (Yes I am an old guy). It's interesting nobody ever told me to value freedom and democracy
2
@kathcasey2090 oops, didn't finish. Meant to say I just absorbed those values by living in America
2
When they say they are apolitical i think it covers a much broader scope than what we think of as politics. This event is more than ordinarily politics but they just go about their lives like its no big deal. Make me wonder what would have to happen for them to react.
2
It's only Putin, the siloviki, and pro-Putin people that are disliked. Ordinary Russians that oppose the war are welcome.
2
@AusValue except the masses that spend their time watching cat videos and waiting for the next celebrity scandal. Being apolitical in the free world is just as bad as being apolitical in a police state under tyranny.
2
But I'm impressed at how he is able to right to the edge of what is allowed to get a glimpse of what people really think.
2
Thanks!
2
Looking through past videos. This one is a real gem 😑
2
The mistake was believing we could export western democracy and values. The middle east is full of factions all fighting each other. There are no good guys or bad guys over there. I hope the US never gets involved in anything in the middle east again.
2
@Kapito13 going after bin laden was right and restoring sovereignty to Kuwait was right but the rest of it was pointless.
2
Did you read the Google translation into English of your comment? It probably makes perfect sense in your language, but the translation is really strange 🤔
2
@Alex-wb3kv so why do those people seem uneasy answering the question?
1
Less self-censorship than usual. I think they feel the need to justify why they aren't going to fight. To themselves and whoever might be watching 👀
1
You are missing the point. Every draft age man has to decide if they will risk their life for a questionable cause. Do you believe in Putin so much that you will die for his cause? Because that is what it comes down to in the end.
1
I've never had to watch what I say. If I was in Russia I probably wouldn't last a week before I slipped up and got bustet
1
It appears the desired outcome of sanctions is to deprive Putin of the funds to build his army. The effect on the Russian people is collateral damage. In a police state without freedom of speech or democracy the people can't do anything about it. I don't blame.the Russian people but I hope they take advantage of any opportunity that comes up in the future to secure basic rights and restore democracy.
1
If it's a dictatorship, then no one can speak against it. And very few do.
1
The silovoki rule. When Putin goes he will be replaced by one of them and nothing will change
1
A lot of Russians are dead too. Are you willing to fight and die too? Do you believe Putin so much that you will die for him?
1
@ОлекЛис so you believe you have no choice? You really think the West is threatening you? The war is in Ukraine, not Russia. Are you so sure that you would fight and die for this?
1
@ОлекЛис and you believe this so much you will fight and die for this? You are that certain about it? Come to America and talk to the people - nobody is interested in Russia except when it attacks a free country. I know I'm not going to change your mind but the lives of ordinary Russians are ending because people believe as you do. Human life. Do you want that on your conscience? Are you that willing to have people die for your beliefs?
1
@ОлекЛис who is telling you this? Most people here are more interested in cat videos and celebrity scandals. Nobody cares about doing anything against Russia unless they attack a free country. You think we sit around and make evil plans against you? Ridiculous. Most people never even thought anything about Russia until the attack on Ukraine. This is all just Putin trying to scare you into thinking everyone is out to get you. The scary thing is so many of you actually believe it.
1
🤣
1
Machiaveli would approve.
1
@Binsr fine.. rephrase the question to "would you volunteer.. would you want your son, husband, etc. to volunteer" . That way it's not asking about response to conscription. Russians may be "apolitical" but I doubt many want to fight.
1
Toyak I would have fought in WW2
1
Do what you like best. You've already done a great service with your interviews. Now I watch your channel to see what's next for you
1
@ОльгаБредлер I watched the video and I understand the narrative Putin wants you to believe. I know I can't convince you to believe otherwise but again I ask you: are you so sure that you will kill or be killed for this? All of Ukraine is ready to fight and die for their country whether you believe it or not. Are you willing to sacrifice ordinary Russian lives for this?
1
@ballinamoresquirrel maybe it's that militaristic eagerness to fight and kill that's part of the problem. Other nations have proud professional armies too but war is something most nations try to avoid.
1
😆
1
@unnamed2480 wasting your time repeating Putin's propaganda. There is evidence people in the West can access to know the truth. Drop the absurd argument about Nazis in Ukraine - we all know it's completely false. This conversation ends now. You have no interest in the truth. Putin has completely brainwashed you.
1
Russia has oil and nuclear weapons. That gives them power. Nothing else matters.
1
@mindblowing3202 you didn't answer my question: do you deny that many poor Russians join the army for the money? Don't try to avoid the question.
1
Is IC3PEAK still popular?
1
Good question
1
@PutinTop what about you? Are you so confident that you are willing to fight and possibly die? And for what? For some piece of territory?
1
Good idea. I've been thinking the same thing.
1
We have to be honest and admit our government lied to get us to support the war in Iraq. They took advantage of our anger at 9/11. Hopefully, we learned from that experience.
1
@user-jj1bp3es3j maybe not yet, but it will come eventually. Putin can't win without more troops. Conscription is inevitable.
1
@xuser9980 so true 😄
