  2. There's a video of lions attempting to take down a buffalo and then getting stampeded after four more buffalos arrive. Here, we can see the dogs cleverly dividing themselves into two groups, one group kills the prey while the other keeps the other buffalos away. This shows that the canines are not only more capable pack hunters than big cats, they are also much smarter.

  4. @hazardeur  If we put them in a cage, the leopard would die from anxiety. It's a cat, as you said. And cats need big open spaces. And just because it is a cat doesn't mean it's an unstoppable force of nature. Cats have their weaknesses and spotted hyenas have evolved just to take advantage of those weaknesses. Cats are ambush hunters, they can't fight or run after a couple of minutes. Hyenas on the other hand are endurance hunters, they can run and fight for hours. Hyenas are also more durable and have a higher pain tolerance compared to leopards. The only advantage the leopard has here are its claws, but they barely affect hyenas as seen in various hyena vs. leopard videos on the internet.

  13. If a hyena was as big as a lion, I am sure lion would stand no chance. Just look at how hyenas go up against leopards. And leopards are stronger than lions pound for pound.

Their endurance levels are also much higher, cats get exhausted quite quickly while hyenas chase their prey for hours until it's tired. There is a video of a sub-adult hyena surviving an attack from 4 lionesses. If hyenas were as big as lions, it would be an easy match for a hyena. Hyenas and leopards are of the same sizes and lone hyenas bully and dominate leopards all the time, leopard claws have no effects on hyenas. As I said, leopards are stronger than lions pound for pound, they have stronger hind legs that allow them to stand and use both of their claws during fights which lions cannot do and leopards can climb trees with prey 2x their size. If such a powerful animal like leopard gets dominated by hyenas, then why do you think a lion would stand a chance against a hypothetical hyena of it's size?

  15.  @Andrea-tz7bm  According to the same National Geographic, hyenas are just scavengers who steal from other animals meanwhile it has been proven that the spotted hyenas hunt 80% of their prey while lions are more likely to steal from hyenas than the other way around. If lions have a bite force of 1000 PSI, then why does it take 4 to 6 lions so long to take down an adult buffalo? That is something a tiger with a bite force of 1050 PSI does within seconds. A single hyena cannot kill a lion you fool, I was talking about a hypothetical scenario that if a hyena was as big as an adult lion, the lion would stand no chance. Why is it so hard for you dingleberries to read and understand the context? You people just jump into a random comment to defend your favourite kitty without even understanding what the comment is about. Lion needs just a paw to kill a hyena? Leopards don't have to fear it as much as hyenas as they have evolved to climb trees with their prey.

  31.  @johnh.mcsaxx3637  I just read about them. They look a lot like Epicyon Haydeni, the giant bone crushing dogs of the Miocene period. Those hyenas must have been a terrifying presence and might have even competed with the lion subspecies of Europe and North America.
