its just an old grocery-getter...
1
not even close- there are lots of them out west where they don't use salt or chemicals on the roads. some VG-swapper daihatsu rockys out here, too, and they do wheelies they are so crazy.
1
wow- a lot of generalizing there. 510s appreciate because they are good cars with timeless style. they only rust out when people neglect or abuse them. i power wash the underside and suspension stuff on my 510 at least once a year and now hit it with my 80-volt yard blower afterwards.
1
because it was driven in salt- did you take it into the mountains??
1
who's sorry now? the 1602s are right about worthless now. early 2002tii's are HOT.
1
how about 4.111 rear end?- they didn't make a 4.10 my 72 has a 300hp VG motor swap and is a fun stoplight car. it used have a 4-pinion fairlady R180, but i went with the 37/10 R200 viscous rear end from a turbo Z31. it also has cheater 610 trailing arms for longer WB.
1
they only 'rot like hell' when they are driven in salt and salt-solutions- why does everyone think they just rust out on their own?
1
at the 510 meets in northern cali- i see collectors usually with stock-ish or JDM cars- and i see builders with some crazy unique stuff. one of my favorite 510s has the VH45 (infiniti Q45) V8 in it. last time i was there my sedan was the only the one with LWB and most guys didn't even notice the mod. i didn't do it for looks....
1
when i take my '72 out- i let my buddies drive cuz its better for my driving record and its quicker with 2 guys in it.
1
there are still a lot of them in southern california. the UFO club members have some beautiful examples.
1
i love smoking suzuki swift GTI's with my four-cylinder daihatsu charade.
1
that sounds right
1
i guess thats a kids video game.
1
regarding getting away with speeding- i would believe a traffic cop before i believe anyone involved with the development of the C4 chevy corvette or someone involved with the insurance industry. or..... you could go to big 5 or chick's and get a radar gun and prove it to yourself instead of merely speculating how the car was styled/designed
1
all the datsuns came with the plastic barriers beneath the door trims. most technicians had no reason to remove or disturb the plastic so most of the surviving cars still have theirs. on the sedans i have built, i used painted factory door and rr trims and created new barriers for them. they are essential because the 510 has water management and drains inside the doors- designed to handle the water running down from the glass. if you see a 510 without the plastic thats a red flag and you should look closer.
1
only in the places that have snowy winter roads.
1
porsche built this car and they didn't use ANY porsche parts- you MUST have been supervising....
1
some people just drive them and don't tear things apart- nothing wrong with that
1
not when youre in italia
1
to hell with that- there's room for a V6 or V8 under there...all motor and if its done right it will smoke any FJ- even the 2.4 which is hard as hell to find.
1
hope you've done that- cuz they are appreciating hella fast.
1
i paid $400 for a texas 510 that was just as clean, but i stuffed it into the side of a vista cruiser back in the late 70's- that was a sad day as it was my first car.
1
one more time- it was a moisture barrier protecting the door trim panel. its not rocket science, people.
1
thats nonsense- they were styled to emulate the bmw sedans at a fraction of the price and they are one of the most pursued older datsuns out there. plus, they garner more attention on the street than ANY citroen.
1
no, they survived if they weren't driven in salt or other salt-based solutions. you sound like someone who knows nothing about sheet-metal work and cosmetic restoration.
