  1. Yes! I’ve always said, try to imagine a woman in her eighth or ninth month of pregnancy, heavy with the baby, walking down a street in town, seeing a hospital, and saying, “Oh, I knew there was something I forgot to do!”? Does anyone think that’s what women actually do? That’s insanity.

  4. But the pro-lifers always say there’s lots of people wanting to adopt those babies; but it’s funny that they’re not the ones adopting them. And don’t even get me started on the horrors I’ve heard about the foster care system. Maybe they ought to clean that mess up instead of making our health decisions for us!

  7. Oooh, I love the term “feral woman”. I think that’s what I’m going to start calling myself. Those were the only good two words in your comment. And regarding your statement “men have tamed the world to the point where women can live independently”: 1. Trust me, men didn’t “tame the world” alone. Men have ALWAYS used women’s labor, & 2. But men don’t ALLOW us to live independently. Who says it’s not the “optimal situation”? That’s simply your opinion. Many women prefer it. Also, we old women who have chosen childlessness (or child free-ness) do NOT regret it in old age. I’ve never, ever, not once regretted my decision. And being alone is not so bad, either. We can always get a cat or a dog. (Although I’m married, but at least I didn’t have children, too.) And, I’d much rather regret not having had children (if I did regret it, which I don’t) than regret having them. There are far too many of us who grew up with mothers who regretted having children, because, even if they don’t tell us they regretted having us, which many of them actually do, they let us know it in many ways.

  10.  @Mors-Omnium  No it’s not. If they cared about “innocents” (as in “babies”) they would make laws to help mothers with feeding and caring for those babies, but they won’t. Once you’re born, you’re on your own, as far as they’re concerned. It’s about controlling women and punishing them for “not keeping their legs closed”, but many, many of these women are married and wanting a baby, but they’re being denied care, too, and those women are also ending up dead or unable to have children in the future. Does that sound like “protecting innocents” to you?

My brother died when he was 19 (I was 11), but she made it pretty clear that she would have been happier if it had been me or my other brother instead (or even both of us). Why would I want children after that?

I think they need to read that one again because it seems they’ve forgotten it. Or because their pastor told them some other verse is more important, because for a book “written by God” some it has to be wrong, right? Or more important. Why can’t we just understand that?..right?

Please look up the case of Savita Halappanaver in Ireland, and what the Irish people did -for just ONE woman-(of course, Ireland is a much smaller country), and what the Irish government did as a result to see why I’m wanting names and photos of these women (this one is the first I have seen in the U.S.). Sorry to be vague, but every time I’ve made this comment with explanation it gets deleted, so the Irish case has to be mentioned without explanation. I am hoping to get more info so I can get something similar to Ireland started here. It doesn’t seem like anything else is working.

  31. Yes, I can remember when Roe was first passed. As a very young woman, I actually felt much safer knowing that if I were ever assaulted and became pregnant from it, I wouldn’t have to have my rapist’s child. And just a year earlier, contraception (the pill) was legalized for everyone, and it changed my life. For the first time in my life I realized I had a choice about what I could do with my life, like work, not marry if I didn’t want to, as opposed to being locked into the standard “role” for women of getting married and making babies and baking apple pies. It was at that time I decided I wanted to go to college and have a career.

  48.  @stephaniehillssawyer Yes, and now we’ve seen testimonials from women who knew, because their doctors knew that the baby wouldn’t survive long, but who who were forced to give birth to these severely damaged babies and had to hold them in their arms and watch them die. It’s tragic. And it’s punishment.

Is that the “American Way” you want? So you think it’s OK that our lawmakers, not the medical doctors, get to decide who lives or who dies?
