Hi Vanessa I saw one of your more recent vlogs today and said I would start from scratch so here I am..good job Im retired I have a few to catch up with ha ha...You can see why the Kite is so called and now looking at that final sketch you can see why humans are now imitating the design in their wing suits for jumping off cliffs (if you are crazy or brave enough). Thanks for a lovely bit of scenery watching...I dont do social media FB etc so this is all I have to go by...do you have a beginning story as to why you are on the narrow boat. Should I be watching something else first? Happy travels anyway...see you in the next video. cheers from Western Australia...which I will now call WA from now on..
1
Glad you enjoyed your holiday, bet it was lovely to catch up with your daughter too...if she's anything like mine I have to make an appt to see my family they are all so busy with life...

Ah Zephyr you just havent trained your mum yet..she took a while to figure out you wanted her to bring that stick through the gate...lift your game Vanessa!!! WOOF!! Vanessa that was a seriously great vlog..your nature photography was exceptional!! Even clicked a couple of shots myself (I know I've asked before and you said you didnt mind...hope thats still the case) to try to paint thanks for the inspiration. How you see the tiny fungi in a hole in the tree or a robin/wren popping in and out of a nest in the undergrowth beats me..I love that you live in the moment it is how I like to live too..thanks so much for the enjoyment and I think its great you included the gate loch boys in your poem, and wasnt little Freya a cutie, I will be checking out her channel as well. Something else which came to my attention in this vlog was throughout all of your beautiful writing in your journal I have never seen one mistake or crossed out letter....safe travels and love from Western Australia xx

@thecanucklehead7351 oh thanks so much for that. Different countries different critters.. sorry about the belated question. I have only just found Vanessa in 2022 and am working my way through all of her videos from the start. Appreciate you getting back to me cheers from Western Australia :)

Tis now end of Feb '23 and just had to have another peek at this one, you have me in giggles Vanessa, that little girl opened the gates quicker than you did. Oops watch that ham ag stap, nearly broke your neck there... and a 'siege of herons' they didnt look like they could mount a siege...so gentle, so still like little soldiers!!! Doesnt matter how many times I watch your vlogs 'V' I always see something different.. our summer finishes next week...saw my first red robin today in my garden..hopefully a sign of winter on the way....🙏 stay safe lovely lady!! Cheers from WA

Well done you Vanessa what a very special find getting that book at Packwood House, and what a gorgeous place. I (well my hubby) have still not found a copy of Edith Holden's "Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady" not even in my library, I'll have to try some old 2nd hand book shops **nope that said I have just found a copy online 1978 version, they even have another book (a Year Book - Diary/planner) with the same poppy cover as yours. I'll let you know how I go . Thankyou so much for showing my cards its means a lot to me that you are still enjoying them. I will have to send you some more...via India..(Actually all the trouble we had last time I think my package really did actually go via India LOL) I have her address from the calendar. Happy days...BTW I think the kingfisher is fast becoming my all time favourite bird he's quite stunning hugs xx
1
@themindfulnarrowboat have a great day Vanessa keep warm...
1
Hi Vanessa oh my gosh I know how important insects are to our world but I have to say you are the first person to get excited about cabbage whites and to be happy that they are eating all of your vegetables ha ha 🤭🤭🤭 I do love your photography of the cute little yellow one and a previous little brown cutie (which I didnt get a chance to comment on) where you told the story of you nearly falling in the water after losing your bank card...yey Mr M what a hero!!!! 🦸♂️🦹♂️💪👍🤩....btw tie a rope to your wife!!!
1
That was so funny/interesting watching that little grebe try to swallow that huge (for him) fish. Just tried (but failed) to look at another NB video you are by far the best Vanessa, so much more interesting as you show life on the canals....many thanks to Youtube for sending you my way....I am so enjoying the journey...Willy Bee is right Im leaning so much by watching you...Google has never been so busy ha ha

Thanks Vanessa for another lovely episode, thanks to India too. It seems to becoming a habit of yours to look for old cottages only to find a new house built in its place. Its a pity the guide brochures don't give more info on that. That WAS a gorgeous gate, well done to the artist who created it. Poor Zeph she was really in her protective mode wasn't she, such a caring young lady. Gosh I love your bird life, that cute Robin, nuthatch and that stunning white egret.. having a heatwave this week in west Oz, with temps in the mid to high 30's C - he last 2 have both been 37 deg C, want to swap, would gladly do so...and you didnt get to the Cadburys factory yet. I went to the one in Hobart Tas and its awesome...you get to fill your pockets to your hearts desire..yum..thanks Cadburys.. keep warm guys!!

@themindfulnarrowboat Hi Vanessa heat not going anywhere soon. Our summer started 1st Dec but by Feb its only just getting going, wont cool off until about end March/April. I think our weather patterns are so out of sync these days, what about in the UK? Seems like here in WA our summers run for 5-6 months, ironically when we lived in Tasmania we often had our fire burning 24/7 365 days a year...got my Diary of an Ed lady today. Thought your book was bigger eg A4 size mine was only A5 . But as disappointed as I was with the size the rest is great. Love her paintings and poetry. Is that where you got your idea to do yours that way? So sad she died so young. What a life she could have lived!! Take care, keep warm, yes you are right so much easier to keep warm...winter is my all time favourite season, I feel so sorry for those who get depressed during cold dark times..its time to put on your coat & beanie lovely people and get out and see what nature has to offer....

There will always be the impatient ones Vanessa just be true to yourself, next time you meet that guy you might think of a few choice words to whisper in his ear. That pig had quite a smile on his face didnt he/she? Live and learn sweetheart, live and learn...its all part of the journey. Travel safe...love from WA
1
@themindfulnarrowboat hi V hope you are feeling a bit better..why arent you resting? I dont expect replies to my comments..look after yourself 🙏🥰🤗
1
You too Vanessa
1
@themindfulnarrowboat I looked up the banded demoiselle thanks for the info Vanessa...aren't they just beautiful?? My favourite colours turquoise and blue :)
1
What would the world be without Vanessa!!!
1
Mrs Kite certainly was beautiful....as were the rest of the birds, the purple and teal on that ducks..stunning. Keep meaning to ask if the loch gates were always all opened wouldnt there be enough water as leveled out? Or would it leak out somewhere? Also meant to say a couple of vlogs ago...that art trail was lovely, as were the gardens in this one with the wire figures and daffodils...thanks again for an educational trip, travel safe...
1
@themindfulnarrowboat well thanks Vanessa...who knew that locks even ran up or down hill?? we dont have them here..you had me in hysterics at the guillotine gates when you were turning that huge wheel...cheers from the west
1
Still looking a bit peaky there Vanessa you look after YOUR self!!! Dont do too much too quickly, let your body recover. Those geese/ducks are quite beautiful and you certainly did them justice with your rendition. I love foxes. Its not their fault they have a reputation, we actually have quite a few here in Oz...🦊 its great to see clear waters again...happy travels to the 3 of you, cheers from WA 🥰🙏🤗🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘
1
@themindfulnarrowboat Hi Vanessa hope you're well now. Not so much seeing foxes often but occassionally. Sadly the farmers cull them in country areas as they go for the lambs and they put tally boards up andc100's get killed. Personally I feel its not their fault they are in Australia so livecand let live..I know farmers wont be happy to see that comment... btw did you get the package yet, I hope you liked it, if not feel fres to pass it on...cheers from WA🤗🙏🥰
1
Hi Vanessa before I forget the sound is great now thank you.. then I had to turn it up because of the heavy rain aarrghghh.....well this is the last for me tonight...33 down and how many to go?? I dont care...Im having such fun. BTW what were those yellow things in the grass I type of fungi? nite nite :) cheers from Western Australia
1
Bit cheeky pinching your mooring Vanessa!! Didnt know the males and females were the same colour our wrens are slightly different depending n the area. We have (red) robin red breasts (the male having the colour and the female not so much and smaller) here and blue wrens which are totally iridescent blue from head to foot (males, females a tawny colour) I will send you some pics of them. Dont you just love Robertsons Fruit Mince...I cant count how many dozens of jars I have used over the years...love your pretty blue fairy lights, our little town here decorates the shops in winter for the winter festival...but our winter is June July Aug. BTW have you tried watercolour pencils? They are a lot of fun and you get a softer finish than coloured pencils..the trick there is to put several light coats of colour rather than one heavy one..just a little tip..
1
Are you caught up yet?
1
Vid#2 what a beautifully peaceful way to move to your next life Uncle Roger, you are much missed by those who love you I can tell by the way Vanessa talks about you...RIP. Glad you showed the weed remover that was my next question, it must be a full time job (but what a lovely way to spend your days) clearing the weed...great job whoever's doing it..happy travels to you and your crew Vanessa..is this a full time or annual holiday adventure?? cheers from WA
1
@themindfulnarrowboat thanks for the warm weather but our winter started on 1st June (my BD..what a great pressy I love winter)..our summer and warm/hot weather will come soon enough (dont like heat yet I live in WA)..nearly got burnt out by a bushfire last summer..the whole town we were so lucky the wind changed....and gentle breezes thanks again but I love rip roaring ones on the beach where they nearly rip your clothes off ha ha
1
Ah 'Wind in the Willows' still my all-time fav book (next to the James Herriot trilogy)..and Im 69. Belated HNY to you Vanessa.. wont be long before Im caught up and can wish it to you for 2022...I hope 2021 was kind to you and you and yours remained Covid free...
1
@themindfulnarrowboat Vanessa I think we are kindred spirits, we seem to have many things in common ..I AM learning so much from you too, thank you so much..
1
@themindfulnarrowboat Hi Vanessa the whole reason I watch you is that you dont just deal with the workings of narrowboats, how to fix an engine, the history in depth of every place you visit or the history of the canals.. you share your views on nature. Show what you see eg birds I would never see in Oz,, stunning scenery I also wouldnt see in Oz. You meet interesting characters like ?Allan doing up the donated or abandoned (people really do that??) NB's for ex Vets. I love your artistry (photography, poems and sketches in your journals)..you are different to the rest. My comment re the endings was more that at the start you told us what was happening then it was "sit back, relax and enjoy the mindful meanderings" I just thought the mindful part seemed to be shorter, and if people cut off before viewing that, then that's sad because that's the whole point of your channel. Dont change anything, mine was just a comment. You are terrific. Everyone is looking for different things about narrowboating and thats fine. I happen to like your channel best BECAUSE of its content not because of what it doesnt have like someone else...if you understand my waffle...maybe its my Aussie accent LOL

PS I think Neil Waite below says it so much better than me and in less words ha ha
1
Oh yes please Vanessa if you get your journal printed I would love to buy a copy..."yes yes yes as Sally said to Harry" 🤭 Ive been asking you for a while to print them off. Happy to buy an original even, signed of course🙏. All the best of luck with it. 🤞Have you discussed this before, I still have a few episodes to catch up on...Willmine be the only copy in Australia???🦘🦘🦘.Btw did you get into Cadburys and get to sample? Those finches are absolutely gorgeous ...I miss your intro's by the way...🤣🤣
1
Im with Brewster Vanessa, the photography in this vlog was awesome...the golden glows on the sides of the NB's so beautiful. The sunsets on the water. Even the pesky weed looked really pretty...Is the little wooden boat (dingy) new, I dont remember seeing it before. Glad Mr M and helpers fixed the engine and that the recycled vege oil is going well. Dont forget that address, want to get your package in the mail before xmas mail starts banking up. thanks for another fun few minutes...oh and congrats on fulfilling your 'otter' dream, wasnt he a beauty!!!!
1
Oh boy that was a scarey trip Vanessa well done to your hubby for getting you all through. Ah that kingfisher was more of a joker!. Needs a bit more practice in tossing and catching his dinner or he was just having fun with a dead fish? Thats one bird Ive never seen but they are related to the Kookaburra I think so we at least have those in WA, (I think they are quite common in other parts of Oz), although some say they are an introduced species.. frankly I dont care, I love all wildlife.. well mostly anyway... You travel safe
1
Long tailed tits....arent they just the prettiest little birds..??? part of the wren family?? I keep saying it but your photography is amazing Vanessa, your writing lovely and your drawings beautiful!!! Have you given any more thought to printing your journals? Thank you from across the world!!!
1
@themindfulnarrowboat what we really need is more young farmers taking on their fathers jobs and updating their practices...the old 'stuck in the muds' arent great with succession planning here...they like to maintain control and do things the old ways, in the west anyway..
1
Hi from WA Vanessa. Well while you are freezing your bum off 🤭 we are sweltering in WA. Interesting to note you have an influx of birds but since this week of low to mid 30 deg C weather our birds have all but disappeared, even our foot long black skinks (lizards) and they only came out of hybernation a couple of months ago. I have bird baths all through the garden but the only birds Ive seen have been our bronze wing doves and the odd rosella (parrot). I love the contrast of your deep green fields to our already dry crisp yellow paddocks and our summer has barely started. I love to see your frozen waterways..keeps me cool, although a bane of your life no doubt. Your photography is stunning as always and your art work, something to be proud of dear friend. Im doing catchup here as usual but I think you might have put an otter or king fisher on the other side of your boat. It will be interesting to see what others thought when I watch the next episode. It always amazes me what you see in the woods when you float by when I have to replay your video 1/2 doz times to see what you saw 🤭🤭🤭 this time being the grey squirrel well done. Xx
1
Havent seen ants like that before, looked more like our termites... Zephyr looked to be enjoying them anyway :)
1
Dont you just love Autumn I just love those colours.. do hope you have slipped a couple of cherry reds and yellows amongst the pages of your favourite books Vanessa. Thanks for another pretty journey...question for you...when you open one side of a loch how do you get to the other side??? Love from Western Australia 🥰🥰
1
@themindfulnarrowboat thanks for that Vanessa you make it all look so easy. Enjoy your own weekend too xx
1
Pond skaters??? Weird little critters are they related to mosquitoes? Looking at them closely looked like a Zentangle..very arty!🤭 That floating blue building...was it a houseboat? Thanks for another great video..wasnt that baby robyn cute? Cheers from the west. I was watching your vlogs until about 2am now cant stay awake🤣😳😳😳😳😳btw I notice nobody is commenting on your bread 🤭🤭🤭🤭 never had much ,uck myself sorry cant help xx
1
@themindfulnarrowboat You too Vanessa keep trying with that bread...
1
PANIC.......wouldn't want to even go under the bridge with a truck that size on it......(love your sense of humour Vanessa you are so quick!!!) You are looking well...what beautiful scenery on that journey...UK has such pretty waterways, so often NOT seen by tourists. Cant believe your summer is over already, ours goes on for about 6 months in Western Aust....I would love to go back to the 4 seasons of my childhood...summer is not my favourite at all...take care yourselves, travel safe and keep smiling....
1
@themindfulnarrowboat thanks Vanessa. I must say I thought B'ham was like Manchester eg more industrial in my mind... but it was quite beautiful, especially along the canals. Can you possibly answer my Queensland question Vanessa eg did you go to Brisbane? I have a particular reason for asking. Just yes or no, don't want details 😊🥰
1
@themindfulnarrowboat ah its a secret...you will have to send me that address to find out ha ha
