  2. Letting people return from the dead is the ultimate of human hubris. Pretending the basic facts of life no longer matter. By people who are scared of their own insignificance. Tolkien called death "the Gift of Ilúvatar" to mankind. That was for a reason. While death is final and terrible, it also means there is a limit to the suffering we need to endure, and makes change for the better easier. Writers should again learn to embrace death as a plot point. No-one does it better than JRR Martin, learn from him.

  6. Some people state the movie is a parody of feminism. So instead of "the movie may not be saying what the film maker thinks it is saying", that may be totally intentional. But if that is true, that should come out in interviews with the makers. And if the parody is so hidden as not to be detected by The Drinker, it is far too deep for a kids movie. Making this movie totally inappropriate for kids.

  10. Comparing the prosecution of republican seditionists and traitors with the persecution of jews for their race was a VERY dumb and disrespectful thing to do. Insulting snowflakes is fine. But comparing a well-deserved backlash with the greatest tragedy and crime of the previous century is absurd and just plain sick. Even more so because there are clear historical parallels between what the GOP is doing and what the NSDAP did. Should not have been enough to get her fired, but then, she pulled the can of worms open herself.

I was quite excited to see TFA, but the first scene where I went "err, that is not right" was where Rey bullies someone and takes a droid he found (BB-8), because "he was going to sell you for scrap". So what, he was the first to take possession of the droid, and you just robbed him. She got away with it because "she was so special". Yeah, right, all thieves and robbers think "they are so special" and deserve some of those goodies they didn't work for.

  12.  @j.ceasar  Having the right to spread opinions that hurt others is called Freedom of Speech. There is no right Not To Be Offended, it doesn't exist. People take offense at certain opinions, that is an active choice. THEIR choice. Now, if I dehumanize or demonize specific people groups, or incite hatred against them, that is NOT (or shouldn't be) covered under Freedom of Speech. Except in cases where a higher body has judged the situation, as in calling Trump a rapist or Hamas a terrorist group. Those are facts, established by courts of law / government bodies. But having an opinion that clashes with your opinion, that just means your opinion is wrong. Usually. Because I think my opinions through and am open to correction. But dehumanizing me for my opinion, that is actual hate speech -- which is done far too often by people who get offended by someone's opinion. So we have the weird situation where many people use actual hate speech because they accuse someone else, falsely, of using hate speech. That has a name, and it is HYPOCRISY. Case in point: J.K. Rowling. Those who rail against her often use hate speech, while I have NEVER caught her in uttering actual hate speech. She does pose questions, and points out where women are endangered by policies that promote rights of trans people. But that is healthy debate, NOT hate speech.

But an opinion is never hate speech unless it is some generalization like "All <fill in people group> are stupid" or something like that. However, an opinion like "Unrestricted access to women toilets by self-identified trans women opens up these protected spaces to rapists" is pretty factual and can NEVER be hate speech. Though many would claim it is. If that hurts your feeling, too bad, your feelings are wrong. We should not let feelings rule us, instead we should let ratio & conscience moderate our feelings.

  19. I hate that trope in Hollywood where as soon as a person that a leader cares for is in the hands of evil, they surrender everything in an attempt to save that person. And it usually works out for them. In reality, when evil has what it wants, their normal response is to kill everybody they control as quickly as possible, to fix loose ends. Or go back on the deal in order to extract even more. That is why in the real world, you only negotiate with evil in order to postpone a confrontation, while trying to gain a favorable position from which you can launch a rescue operation, or are fairly certain that you can catch the bad guys afterwards.

  25. Hollywood is currently fighting for survival due to competition from the streaming networks. It won't be long before they get the message "go woke, go broke". I think Disney already got the message out of the Star Wars fiasco. I am very curious what 2021 will bring, but I expect a lot less pandering to the SJW shills.

  28. What is happening at Disney is so outrageous, I am starting to believe that this is exactly what its leaders want it to be. Next question is, WHY? I don't for a second believe it is because the higher-ups want The Message to permeate the world. That is what the underlings want, but not the higher-ups. Disney is controlled by some of the most wealthy individuals and organisations on this planet. And they are ONLY interested in money. So, they believe it will financially benefit them to drive Disney into insolvency by letting it make stuff nobody wants. That does not compute. EXCEPT if in doing so, they can protect their other assets. Which, I believe, would be by triggering an anti-woke, pro-fascist movement that is too distracted to vote for parties that would reform tax laws to make the ultra-rich pay their fair share. We will see what happens next. If for example Kennedy stays on, and this Headland creature, this conspiracy starts becoming more plausible.

The fight is going to be monumental with the board on board, but if the board (& major shareholders) is actually pushing for these culture wars, it will be impossible to win by Iger. Now why would share holders push a message that is costing them lots and lots of money? Never for a second believe it is because the believe in "the message". Companies get that big & rich through one thing only: wanting MORE money. So somehow, they believe that stirring the culture war will earn them money in the long run. My bet is that they want anti-woke political groups to gain power, who also happen to be anti-taxation for the rich. The political equivalent of a false-flag operation. Same as how the ultra-right cause riots to accompany peaceful protests. The bottom line in the "culture wars" is that it doesn't affect most people very much. Far less than what the ultra-right want you to believe. Whereas the ultra-rich not paying their fair share in taxes is something that affects us all.

  41. I am fine with studios writing lousy characters. What I am not fine with is that when this is pointed out to them, they start name calling. That is extremely childish and will make us dislike not just the script writer and the director, but the studio as well. Calling your customers names is not good for business. We remember. For example, except for one or two massive shareholders buying up Disney stock whenever it comes near $90 on ideological grounds, that stock would have dropped way lower. The audiences are just fed up with Disney, and from now on I expect everything they make to lose money.

  43. I wasn't going to subscribe to Amazon Prime anyway, and this gives me no reason to reconsider. Though I always wanted to see that scene where Türin finds Nienor. But oh no, that was the 1st age, whereas this show will focus on the dealings of the 2nd age. Yet another epic political power struggle with ambivalent characters. If I want to see that, I watch MSNBC or one of the dozens of channels analyzing the shite happening in the US or the UK.
