Weird that these movies glorify awesome levels of power. Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. If you want good movies, fill it with (relatively) weak people like Gandalf, who needs to entrust the salvation of the earth to a hobbit of all things.

I think that part of the problem is the Ego game. Producers would rather produce a film with a 200M budget, than one with a 10M one, just because it makes them look good. Solution: bring simple accountability back. The more money a movie loses, the worse it should affect his/her career. It seems that nowadays failing at the box office is fine as long as you put in enough representation.
1
Scenario writers seem to have caught a weird virus or something that erased all possible ways of moving a plot forward except busywork. Tell me when it is over, then I'll start watching stuff again.
1
Rest in Peace, Rutger.

In the end, point 5 will be the most important. Holywood presumes to preach against us, but preaching a double standard does not end well. The ONLY phase 4 movie I watched was "no way home", and that was a decent movie. Still waiting for another one.
1
GO AWAY NOW! Indeed! If you don't like the lore of the Universe, invent your own universe. Invent a universe where all males are ritually unmanned to appease the gods, for all I care. But evil can not invent. It can only corrupt.
1
About halfway through your commentary I remembered I had actually watched this movie a few months ago....
1
Doing well, Drinker! At some point, Hollywood will listen to someone who is more popular than them.
1
I am getting old. It took me two seconds to catch on to the 2 reasons joke.
1
@razberrycuddles22 There is no cultural war. There are some deluded people who try to change our culture, but they are doomed to fail.

If find it morally wrong to take a character from the past and then change his/her attributes. To suddenly make a straight bloke a gay female, or to make a disabled person not disabled. It implies that there was something wrong with the previous version of the character, and that you have the ability to improve it. Which is arrogance on the level of a God- or Saviour Complex. By judging those who went before us, we judge ourselves. Like the Pharisees of Jesus' day who honoured the prophets of old and claimed they would never have murdered those prophets if they had been around back then. Jesus told them off, that they were no better than their fathers. They didn't like that, but then proved him right by having Jesus Himself murdered. It is the principle of Romans 2:1: "[...] at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things." If you disagree with some attributes of an historic character, create a new one. Don't claim or imply you are better than those who went before. Because you are not.
1
One point you overlooked: those road works are part of a huge scam to extort people. US cities are built for cars, not for people, after car producers convinced city councils that that is the future. In their wings, huge civil engineering companies got in on the scam to take huge amounts of money out of the public coffers. Money that should have been used to e.g. educate their youth. Instead, cities bankrupt themselves to build concrete jungles.

I though greed would take down the media industry. Now I am pining for the day these people go back to making money.
1
I am getting more and more convinced that Disney is overdoing the "progressive" thing on purpose, to discredit progressive movements that actually have a point. Like how corporate and individual greed is destroying everything, how corrupt many right wing politicians have become, how the standard of living for the poor is decreasing rapidly, etc, etc. Because Disney's behaviour does not make sense unless there is such a motive.
1
The world was a lot simpler when games were made by single young, white, males for single young, white males. Then, corporations happened...
1
Excellent points. If someone thinks they can improve on Tolkien's work, by all means, create your own world. Tolkien created Middle Earth, who do these people think they are to somehow "improve" it.
1
A bit more diversity in movies is definitely needed.
1
I wonder how these people can think "It is OK when we do it". That is the definition of hypocrisy, and for people who presume to lecture us about morality and justice, that is just perverse. Anyway, thanks for seeing this movie so we don't have to.
1
Oh, you masterful purveyor of Truth, thou hast hit the nail on the head with those one.
1
This rant is probably going to get more views that the last Acoshite episode. That is her true legacy: bringing channels like yours to the forefront, that don't shy away from telling truth to Hollywood royalty.
1
I actually liked the joke about Santa being believed in more than vaccines and the holocaust. But I guess you must have seen the rest.
1
The show may be sh!t, but it gave as the perfect rant from The Drinker!
1
Well put! Movies should appeal to our inner drives, if they want to sell. If women bemoan the dreaded 4-0, they should realise that mature women can be attractive as well, only not in the same way as when they were 21. Same with men, though their prime lasts a bit longer.
1
You'd think Holywoke would learn that if they want to make money, they need to make stuff people will actually pay for to watch.
1
Genres die when they stop telling interesting stories, with interesting characters and interesting plots. Unlike with burgers, the 10th time you are served the same story, it tastes stale and bland. That is why burger franchises keep growing but movie franchises peter out.
1
> no such thing as good feminist writing Feminism (defined as "women are superior to men"), is a very flawed concept. No good can come out of it. Luckily, in media, we have a choice to consume or not to consume. Go Woke, Go Broke.
1
Good analysis! I was indeed one of those that kinda liked the movie, but not sure why. Compared to similar movies of the time, it was OK, but a pale shadow of the original... I did like the cinematography, and they made a great Legos video game out of it ;-)
1
That was the most intense "go away now" yet. This show really got to Drinker.
1
Drinker, you should teach classes in script writing at University. But then, the students would probably sue you for hurting their feelings...
1
Another hate-driven movie I ain't gonna see. If these movie makers were genuinely interested in promoting women, they would take advantage of existing franchises with strong women leads, like Tombraider, or create some new amazing franchise. If, IF they are well written, I'll gladly spend money to see them.
1
If your politics don't allow real, relatable characters, you stand to loose a lot of money.
1
It is about time an animated movie gets the "Best Movie" Oscar. But then, I guess animators are not represented in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and those who are have an interest against an animated movie get the top award...
1
Imagine fighting an evil stereotype -- by creating another, even more evil stereotype. In the age of the original, women could be strong without putting others down and accepting, even celebrating the differences between people. Not in this age. Women who buy into the current ideology will be sorely disappointed with life by the time they reach 40. And blame it all on the "patriarchy" instead of their ridiculous attempts to subvert biology.
1
If the Drinker keeps it up, he will soon have more views, daily, than most of these "block busters" over their run time! Poetic Justice...
1
Better, much better. Especially the interactions between Rose and Finn make much more sense this way. Killing Rose off is of course debatable, but considering the use they gave her in RoS, she might as well be killed off.
1
I know the feeling. While it wasn't a bad movie (well, at least by todays standards) and did entertain me, it added nothing new. Just a rehash of Star Wars minus the hero's journey -- which happened to be the central core of Star Wars. The biggest question I was left with, was how the f@ck did the Republic fall to the "first order"? And that shall always remain a mystery.
1
People who think black characters need to be inserted to make the message more acceptable have not understood Tolkien's work. In case no-one noticed, the LOTR and Middle Earth are absolutely FULL of racial interactions, both good and bad. Anti-Racism is a big theme in the LOTR. Hell, the man even manages to make Orcs relatable and explains that their aggression was due to the force that drove them.
1
What are the odds of this movie will actually be made? Better than 10 to 1?
1
I like Magical Bullshit Devices. The Ring in TLoTR is one, so they must be good!
1
I am sick of Disney Star Wars. I'll stay far away from it until people like Drinker et al start to rave about it.
1
I feel your pain. It is enough to make anyone turn to the drink.
1
"Glasgow council estate" Drumchapel is not so bad -- once you get out of it.
1
Thank you, Drinker, for watching this show so we don't have to.
1
Excellent review. Take that, Disney! Painting some anti-KK graffiti on a shed does not undo nearly a decade of terrible choices.
1
All this demonstrates is that KK is still living her fantasies and forcing them upon us all. Bob Chapek has squandered his chance to still have a career. As the fall of Disney Stock resumes, we can expect him to be axed.
1
CGI is all about having control. Directors & Producers with little dicks wanting to create exactly their vision and nothing else, because they know best.
1
Teenage science prodigies are laughable. But worryingly, show a fatal disregard for the enormous effort beta scientists have to invest to just be able to access the results of other scientists. Science is HARD. That is why the beta fields are called HARD science. Being able to follow a YouTube tutorial and replicate an experiment may be exciting. But drawing the proper conclusions is a lot harder. And a lot harder still is to think of a new experiment to gain new knowledge.

@sheadoherty7434 "I never said you are misogynistic" No worries, I did not get the impression you were, but I just wanted to make the point about women making good managers, and wanted to leave no doubt on the issue. But we disagree about the moniker "feminist". Feminism has served its purpose as a movement in the west. Many that now take that moniker are aggressively anti-men. That is not a good thing. But the concept that men and women are of equal value and need to be free to step in whatever role or function they fancy, even roles that used to be reserved for the opposite sex, I wholeheartedly agree with that, as long as they are willing to play the game that comes with that role. And I even think that for some roles, the rules of the game need to change because they have nasty side-effects, like narcissism or aggression being allowed in management. Management is not about who pisses the furthest (you may notice I do not have a high opinion of current management culture). Perhaps we need to come up with a new name for people who think that way about gender equivalence.
1
Sorry to hear this is a decent movie. I won't go watch it because of the turd. WB spat on every male in the world by leaving her in, while canceling JD.
1
Of course franchises can be redeemed. And the wokerazzi have shown us how: retcon them, using some of the many in-world or out-world gimmicks they used to retcon the straight people.
