@ILoveBluePeople Also in WW2, Germany had massively expensive projects to make "super weapons" that had little value at all on the battle field. That was why the arguably inferior Sherman tanks defeated the Tiger and Panzer 4 tanks.

After a much smaller fire in the Mont Blanc tunnel, it was closed for three years. Granted, they took the opportunity to modernize the tunnel, but still, repairing that train tunnel will probably take years.
19
Don't stop after liberating Vovchansk, but continue on into Russia!
17
The insane thing is that these men just blindly charge to their demise. You'd think they would charge the other way. They are done for anyway, might as well do some good instead of evil. For those of confused morality: violently charging a people that are defending their own homes & families is definitely EVIL.
17
Also, Ukraine has been very successful hunting long-range artillery and rocket systems. Russia is yet to take out a Pzh-2000.
15
@banegas0411 Nothing can be broken so that it can't be rebuilt. But rebuilding this tunnel will take a year at least.
11
This victory is highly significant for two reasons: 1). That patrol ship was made to patrol around the Kerch Bridge and keep it safe from attack, and 2). the ship was sunk on the far side of the bridge, from Ukraine's perspective, the "safe" side from Russia's perspective. This is a message to the Russians they can't fail to read: the Kerch bridge is vulnerable, the assets that are intended to protect it can't even protect themselves, and Ukraine is removing its protection layer by layer. And the Russians can't do anything about it.
11
Conquering the region south of the Seim river does NOT make the front line longer. It makes the front line shorter, as the existing front line west and south of that region would no longer be needed.

He is Ukraine's Churchill.

@fallingphoenix2341 Ukrainians are at this moment expanding their salient around Robotyne and advancing beyond Klischiivka. They never stopped pushing.
6
The last few days there is a significant drop in the number of tanks and IFVs Russia lost. But the number of soldiers lost stays very high. Does that mean Russia is finally running out of armour? I remember looking at the numbers two years ago and thinking that such an enormous stock pile would never run out. But these incompetents managed exactly that in only two years!

Great news. Love the new tactics, they look well through-out and effective. God bless Ukraine!

Also, Russia is a very backward country. Many of the weapon systems they now use were actually developed in Ukraine, which was the industrial and R&D base of the Soviet union. They used to say that Russia proper was the brawn and Ukraine was the brains of the Soviet Union. Decades of under-investment have hollowed out the educational system that they had, with all available funds being channeled to the kleptocratic oligarchs. Russia has bitten off more than it can chew. It will choke on Ukraine, and it will cause the Russian federation to fall apart. Separated from Russia, each people-group can then find their own path to peace and prosperity.
5
The difference is that here in the West we have more information available, so we know what is really going on. In Moskovy, everyone telling the truth about this war is sent to prison for 10 years. Also, most of the soldiers come from really, REALLY poor areas. As in medieval circumstances. Their families are promised huge (for them) sums of money should they expire. That is one of the reasons Russians leave their demilitarized on the battle field: no body, no need to pay compensation to the family. It pains me to write it down.
5
In an army that is organized top-down, it is much more difficult to control when which unit gets to pull back. The Russians are just not able to conduct a fighting withdrawal. I look forward to the Ukrainians flooding out of the breached lines, after they are down reducing them. All the Russians will have left are artillery and air strikes. By all means, take your time reducing those as well.

@anomymouse5043 Their biggest mistake was invading Ukraine in 2022. Russia never had a chance subduing the Ukrainian people. Not after what they did to the previous Putin Puppet, and Zelensky started giving away assault rifles to civilians who wanted them.
3
The Russian bots keep telling us how great and successful Russia is. But we can all see it is all coming apart at the seems. Hang tough, Ukraine, the worst is over!
3
My bet is that Ukraine will encircle Bakhmut for three quarters, leaving a single access road. That turns Bakhmut into a nice little cauldron, which Putin for reasons of pride will want to hang on to. Meaning he will continue sending troops into that city, which Ukrainians can then kill. More Russian soldiers will die in / around Bakhmut than there were original inhabitants. Gives a new meaning to the concept "ghost city".
3
The airspace above Ukraine-held ground is not contested. Russian airplanes or helicopters do not go there, except to surrender. Only cruise missiles and drones, and 70 to 90 % of those are shot down.
3
I am amazed that the Russian soldiers don't turn on them. Such cowards.
3
Russian soldiers must expect a warm welcome when they return from the battle more-or-less in tact. Warm as in being shot at.
2
Putin continues digging his own grave. It is looking like he will continue to push on with this war until he is stopped by his own citizens. I pray they will be wiser in choosing their leaders next time they get the opportunity.
2
@freetolook3727 Maybe they could roll the tubes down hill and so scare the Ukrainians out of their trenches?
2
That huge mortar is begging Ukrainian counter-battery fire to take it out from 40 miles distance.
2
Those "electrical faults" in the railways have really hurt Russia. Those railways are out of action for many months (the bridge one) and years ( the tunnel one), meaning he can't import weapons through them, and he can't export oil through them. Nor does he have enough power to protect them once repaired. That doesn't leave him with many options. Putin has to admit that Ukraine is too tough a nut to crack. The longer he waits, the more painful things will become for him and his people, and at some point Russia will simply collapse. If he wants to survive & enjoy his old age, he should announce his retirement and elect his successor.
2
Lots of wisdom to the Ukrainian soldiers and their leaders.
2
Happy Hunting, Ukraine! Get rid of the Orcs!
2
I love these little tactical analyses.
2
When the locals cheer when your house is hit by an enemy attack, you know that an uprising is not far away. The only thing that is needed is for the locals to get hope that they can defeat their oppressors.
2
Russia sending troops into frontal suicide attacks is great news. I hope the Ukrainians won't get nightmares from promoting so many of them to Good Russians.
2
Ukraine is doing very well. Russians will not be able to hold on to Crimea.
2
Ukraine is teasing the Russians to attack them in these meat wave assaults, where they can inflict massive losses on them. The land is not important except as a zone for wasting Russian soldiers.
2
I'd love to see the statistics, but I think the King of the battlefield is still tube artillery.
2
The complexity is not in sitting in the cockpit. It is in operating the many possibilities the plane has, including the gazzillion different types of bombs and missiles it can carry and the systems necessary to arm, aim, drop, target and track them.
2
Poland is in the process of replacing its government. If they reacted mildly this time, if Russia tries this again there will probably be a harsh response.
2
I won't give a penny for the lives of these poor men if they allow themselves to be "handled" by Russian forces. If they want to live, they should surrender to the Ukrainians or defend themselves from the Russian handlers. In the latter case, they would at least die with honour.
2
Great news! Glory to the Heroes!
1
I wonder if those Dracaris drones can also do a number on land mines.
1
@cesariglesias297 What amazes me is that the Russians continue to fall for it. I suspect they use the same tricks the Nazis used to let people take their final shower in the camps: brutal intimidation beforehand and keeping what is about to happen concealed. But still, a man with a gun always has a choice.
1
While I am very impatient to see the Russians run for their lives, I trust the Ukrainian generals to win this war. They have done very well up to now!
1
The failure around Avdiivka shows how spent the Russian army is, and how terrible its leadership. It was the last breath of the offensive capabilities of Russia. They tried to snatch victory from defeat, like Hitler did with the Ardennes offensive. But instead of achieving a strategic breakthrough, they lost three battalions for no gains at all. It is all downhill from here. One wonders how long until the Russian soldiers start to mutiny in earnest, instead of obeying these suicidal commands.
1
May the Russian soldiers learn to fear the Ukrainians more than Putin.
1
I have always thought the crossing of the Dnipro to be the most promising avenue of attack for Ukraine. Especially now that much Russian heavy equipment has been moved elsewhere. The Russians successfully washed the previous bridgehead away just as they were about to expand, but now there is nothing to stop the Ukrainians.
1
The F16s will not all be shipped at the same time. Some of them have been used for spare parts for others, new parts would need to be obtained and installed.
1
Ukrainian tactics are to let the Russians advance in the open, inflicting massive casualties with accurate artillery, then to out-flank them and cut them off from supplies. Thus they are able to have a 6.5 to 1 kill ratio in spite of being on the offensive. But the Russians have no alternatives. Ukrainians can pick them off when they remain static, and they do not have enough men to man the whole front sufficiently to repel serious attacks. Soon the ratio will be 10 to 1, with all the new untrained recruits and winter hurting the Russians more because of their lack of logistics. This Russian invasion is doomed.
1
Ukraine is fighting VERY smart. God bless them with wisdom and strength. And God bless the Russians with panic on every side. That way there will be the least casualties.
1
For more serious news, I am running out of popcorn!
1
@fdllicks And like with WW2, there are people who think the USA can keep out of the war even if it spills over into the rest of Europe. They think themselves very smart. But history shows that US isolationism was a big factor in the start of both WW1 and WW2. And in both cases, that isolationism could not prevent the USA from being drawn into the war. Please, USA, don't make that mistake a third time. You already failed to deter Putin from invading Crimea, and failed to deter him from invading the rest of Ukraine. Make sure you deter him from invading the Baltic states, together with the rest of NATO, by helping Ukraine drive Russia out of their country, otherwise there will be a new World War. Words will not deter Putin, only action will.
1
Let's hope the Ukrainians can wipe out the Russian artillery in the region.
1
@robinbailey7460 The USA has become very susceptible to (foreign) propaganda. They are no longer able to differentiate between propaganda and factual information, as most of the news they consume is presented as propaganda (emotion and outrage centered).
