  22. British politics are weird, but I think the parliament in 2019 could have appointed a non-Tory prime minster without any elections, if Bozo had resigned. If they could have come to an agreement on who that would have to be, that is. Not all in the opposition trusted Corbyn, so they should have picked another instead of agreeing with a new election. And that same division caused them to lose the election.

  30. Exactly. Many (me included) have been saying this ever since 2016. The clouds were appearing on the horizon, but people still failed to see them. We need to thank God that Trump has been defeated by Biden, but the EU needs to be able to hold its own militarily against any aggressor, without help from the US. In fact, if the Republicans regain power, it may well be the US that is the aggressor.

  31. It is great to plan a roadmap for rejoining the SM, but I'd think the EU is leading in its contents. And to prevent another debacle like the last 6 years, I'll wager the EU will have some ideas about necessary political reforms in the UK.

  32. ​ @Holliethedog  No, it was the purpose of Putin to weaken the EU. He achieved that: the EU has less power & prosperity without the UK than with the UK. Fartage et al were at best useful tools, at worst fully complicit in Putin's plans. The idea that Brexit would collapse the EU was always idiotic, and anyone with even the slightest insight would have said so in 2015. I most certainly did. I remember what things were like pre-EU, how hard it was to cross borders (in person or shipping goods), and the hassle of needing cash in four or more currencies when going on a holiday. We used to keep left-over coins in photo-film containers at home, because you couldn't convert them back to our own currency. And you needed insurance, a carnet for the car, traveler checks, proof of ownership for valuable stuff you took with you, to avoid having to pay duty when bringing them back into our country, etc, etc, etc. Guess the idiots who voted Leave forgot about all that. Well, good luck proving that you owned that boat on your trailer before you left the UK, or proving that you are not going to sell it in the EU when you enter.

The literal text on the referendum was: "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?” Remain a member of the European Union Leave the European Union" The Brexiteer misinformation got to you, meddled with your brain. There was never a firm explanation of what "Leaving the EU" actually meant. I know, because during May's time it was still very much undecided. I warned people to not trust politicians who would not clarify their plans. Same for Bozo. We had to wait until 24-12-2019 until it became clear what Brexit meant. Everything was up for grabs until that time.

The Tories have been very successful in convincing the Brits that it are the forinners who want to take away their cookie, while in actual fact it are the wealthy Britons who have hoarded all the cookies and refuse to share more with the common man. A good regulatory framework where workers on British projects must comply with British law with regards to pay, hours, qualifications etc would have gone a long way in preventing the situation you describe. But then the oil companies would have had to pay a bit more....

  45. 5:00 - I don't think anyone will ever again think Putin is making "desperate threats". Like with Trump, he usually says exactly what he wants. Rather, I think Finland and Sweden take heed of what he said, and will expedite their application for NATO membership. Moldavia likewise.

  46.  @jyvben1520  The Scottish border is mainly river, with very few crossings. I traced it some time ago, I think I found 8 crossings in all. It would be child's play to make it hard. Except for the inevitable farmers who have land on both sides of the border, but perhaps they will see the wisdom to sell or swap the offending bits. Remember that the Scottish border has historically been just that: a hard border between two separate, sovereign nations.
