  2. It is all fine and dandy to critizise Bozo. He is a clown, and clowns like him need to understand the consequences of entering a high office without qualifications. But those morons who voted for him really need to take responsibility for what they did. You don't vote for liars because lying makes them relatable, nor for buffoons. Both make you unqualified for high office. The same principle holds as in engineering: Garbage In, Garbage Out. If you let toddlers run a household, you can expect lots of filth and dead toddlers. And don't come here with "Labour is just as bad". No they are not. Bozo is the worst PM the UK has ever had, and his government is the worst the UK has ever had. By a large margin.

  7. Gave a +1 for the snarky comment, but if you mean the EU with "competitors", I hope you realise that the EU does not do zero-sum games. The departure of the UK did hurt the EU, though not very seriously. It would be better for everyone if they returned, in spite of the added complications at the political level. In the end it is the economy that affects us all, while politics make for good entertainment.

But these wins are not as large as we would have had when the UK were still inside the EU. Economic co-operation is not a zero-sum game. Sadly, 28 - 1 = 25 (or thereabout).

  13. Excellent analysis. I hadn't thought of option 3. A Norway-style deal with the EU is a serious option. It would mean surrendering so-called "sovereignty", but I am sure most Britons would rather have food on the table than the sovereign right to starve to death.

  18. At some point, you have to wonder whether the UK is worth saving. The problem isn't even the Tories. It is the media the idiots consume. As long as the tabloids still have a customer base, the UK is not ready for saving. Imagine we get a Labour government after the next GE. They will need to spend years, many years, repairing the damage before things will improve. All the time, the rabid MSM will accuse them of England's ills even though they were all caused by the previous government. Labour will be soundly defeated after one term in government, just like the Democrats are standing to lose their majority in the house next year, and the presidency after that. Just because they haven't dealt with the source of their delusions. I am afraid the UK will only be saved through some real hardship. Just be glad that the Tories are dumb enough to give it to the people. At some point, people will wake up and wonder what has become of their country, and what has become of all the promises made by the Tories.

Within weeks of him buying Twitter, pro-Ukrainian channels were muted so that views, likes etc were cut by a factor of 10, and shortly after the pro-Russian right-wing nutters were amplified by a factor of 10. That made it pretty clear that he is NOT on the side of free and open debate, but has bought Twitter as a political tool.

During the Brexit campaign, the government was officially impartial (Cameron was a Remainer, if I remember correctly), but the BBC was strongly biased towards the Leave campaign with only lackluster rebuttals of their wildest claims.

  28. Over time, Brexit will give UK entrepreneurs an opportunity to adjust to the internal market. The BIG question is how fast they can do that. If it takes too long, the UK will go bankrupt from the increased trade deficit. This is why it was so insane of the Tories to go for their Extreme Hard Tory Brexit. If they had spread Brexit out over a period of say 5 years from the moment the final deal was made, businesses would have had time to prepare. Now they did not: businesses had just 1 week, and were given almost no information about what to expect. Most exporting companies will not survive the sudden change, leading to what I expect to become catastrophic damage to the UK economy.

  29.  @lazytitan9987  True. If the process had been more reasonable, the UK might have survived striving for self-sufficiency -- albeit at a much lower standard of living than the rest of the world. A bit like North Korea. There would be very little interest in UK exports, so as a consequence they would not have the cash to import much. What I wanted to point out is that with the current Extreme Tory Brexit, the UK is heading for a complete economic collapse.

  36. Hearing these Tory wannabees bray about cutting the civil services, it does seem likely they know next to nothing about the actual situation of Britain. Or they just begrudge every single penny that the government spends on something else than their own companies. Perhaps they are setting the civil services up for failure so they can out-source the work to companies that will "Save Britain from ineffective bureaucracy".

This means that the number of infections for the latest week is INCOMPLETE, and will be corrected in the following week. Due to this trick, all UK Covid infection charts show a significant drop in the last week, for the comfort of the unwashed. I believe you reported this?

  44. ​ @ellied.violet7372  In Phil's defense, I think he needs to think that way to keep his sanity. I know I would have trouble staying sane in Britain at the moment. Their situation is hopeless. And also, many in the EU have the sense that the UK belongs inside the EU. The EU is designed as an open community. And finally, to have the UK back will increase its power considerably. Personally I think the UK will split up first, and then the parts will join the EU as sovereign nations. For Scotland that will be an easy process, for Wales & England, not so much. Faith has been broken by England, confidence needs to be restored. That will indeed take decades.

  49.  @ellied.violet7372  There are plenty of reasons for the EU to accept England back into the fold. It would strengthen our market position, strengthen the EU militarily and politically. Also it would reduce the likelihood of violence or civil war in the region, especially North Ireland -- which is the ultimate goal of the EU. So, provided England prove its dedication to European co-operation, honest reporting, democracy and Rule of Law, I don't think there will be too much trouble. Obviously, some members will milk the situation to get concessions, but that is par for the course. I understand that many of us feel deeply insulted by the Brits, and I do believe that Bozo is doing his best to burn as many ships behind him as possible. But he has been paid by Putin to do that, perhaps indirectly. As the situation in GB is growing worse and worse, at some point we will take pity with them. It would help if Bozo (and Frost, Trust, Patel etc) are convicted for abuse of power and betrayal of the interests of the British people.
