Hindsight says that it would have been best to invest and secure in-house recycling supply chains, instead of profit-squeezing right on time supply chains.

What the Prius Prime should need: Full synergy of Battery like the Rav4Prime; 91 hp HV + 97 hp ICE = 189 hp hybridized and a 1.5" lift kit

The problem is not EVs, it's a Market Failure deliberately favouring profit and stock buy backs over R&D, over engineering and over inflating products for the shortest roi. They call it "competitiveness". For electric efficiency, affordability and practicality, smaller and lighter is better, fact. And the fact that there's not enough hybrid Ford Mavericks being built for demand, the fact that there isn't an EV or PHEV Ford Maverick should screaming volumes. Hell in Europe the Ranger is a PHEV but not in the US? The oppertunity for Hybrids was 15-20 years ago, when Ford had the Escape for f🤬s sake The fact that Toyota or Hyundai have not yet made a small, hybrid/plugin pickup truck is frankly worse
7
Neither are PHEVs or EVs and still stupidly expensive Toyota and Tesla are even more stupid for not offering any such small truck.
7
Really have to ask ourselves why there isn't a full EV Prius, why there aren't adequate base trims, why there isn't a choice of a 1.8l phev, or even a 1.5l 3cyl hybrid seen in the Yaris/Aqua in Europe and Japan? Hell why isn't there the Aqua/PriusC in Europe and the US? Toyota is seriously squandering its long held industrywide domination, no wonder why the Chinese have taken over the global automotive scene.
6
That's to all that govt bond interest and tax avoidance for the wealthy.
6
Bullshit. Haven't you noticed how extortionately expensive and large all "cars" have gotten with fewer and fewer variety of choice? It's a broader market failure like the repeat of 2008.
5
Still above 80% more than pre covid prices here in Europe

*Drives away to avoid questions over Israeli apartheid*

Profiteering and Inflation is an incestuous cycle, plus repeating the same mistakes the automarjet made before 2008. What else could we expect with the oversaturation of premium SUVs/Crossovers no matter the fuel? That's already a limitation of choice. Small city cars in Europe are no longer profitable like the Citroen C1/Toyota Aygo, hence why they're discontinued, hence why the Ford Fiesta is dead Cuz over a decade of financing the most profitable and "popular" vehicles had created inflation that made the least profitable cheap cars even less profitable, limiting the choice of new vehicles, shrinking the new car market. It's a spiral and the pyramid will come crumbling down yst again
4
You should try telling that bs to all of us in Europe. This Mitsu PHEV has been among the top 5 most sold SUVs here since 2014, and also being above 3rd best selling plug-in since then. Just try it, quite often that's just the only thing from stopping plug-ins from making sense.
4
Sharpen your knives and forks for the class war
4
neither the hybrid or Plug-in hybrid Prime 😒
3
Signs of economic crisis much?
3
Yeah , naturally But Citroën > Toyota And that's coming from an owner of a 14 year old Prius for 7 years
3
Toyota is going down the wrong path, the audification
3
It's a gigantic, profit gouging SUV. Nobody else thinks that the auto market in the west is hurtling towards another brick wall? Chinese EVs that are quicker and cheaper to build are already here by the shipload.
3
That's regrettable. If I was a yank with health problems I'd move to Cuba
3
Nobody finds it weird that Toyota hasn't bothered making a simple, light hybrid pick-up like the Ford Maverick has achieved on its own for years?
3
Toyota will fine comb everything to make the excuse to void your warranty claim
2
Get a Citroen.
2
Yet another expensive midsize crossover-SUV? This is what's called a market failire. NO WONDER there's a scramble to ban and tarrif more competitive and modest Chinese EVs.
2
It makes me laugh remembering all of the TDI vs Prius videos from over 5 years ago.
2
Great to see the CHAdeMO rapid charge port still on there
2
🎯 all the mandatory luxury items for profit just creates inflation for what are essentially emotional support vehicles in the suburbs. There's a reason why Ford is quiet about its Maverick (and no PHEV/EV), the raptors and F150s are simply more profitable.
2
yikes... If only you yanks had the Dacia Jogger
2
The executives' and shareholders' gamble on profitable premium products are coming home to roost, watch them blame union workers and EVs instead while a double whammy of an economic downturn and competitive Chinese EVs wipe the floor with them.
2
Profits creates inflation. Inflation reduces the value of profits even if it's the same value a year prior. This is Macroeconomic long before COVID
2
The 1.4 Turbo is nice in the GTE plug-in. You in the US can find that in the Audi A3 e-tron.
2
Would be cooler on a reliability and expenses front if it were a hybrid, or Prime.
2
How??? unless you flooded it, what could possibly go wrong with an old Prius?
2
Is the Fiat Panda going to be rebadged as a Jeep into the US?
2
Inflation reduces the value of profits And those who set prices increase prices to preserve and grow their profit margins, every time, eventually creating a macroeconomic inflation reducing the value of their profits. Not to mention, a cost of living crisis world wide. Remember that
2
One thing about Tesla that can't be beaten
2
You've obviously never even been in or driven an electric car. These are not dull, especially not with a 0-30 sprint.
2
What kind of tea is this?
2
As is dealerships didn't already have a wasteful reputation
2
Mitsubishi hasn't gone far enough with electrification after the iMiEV and Outlander. That's the main sauce.
2
Compared to Citroën ë-C3 , these are just trash crossovers with no option to plug in that replaced genuinely good city cars
2
No hybrid, which is unacceptable because the Tuscon which it's closely based on has a PHEV. Even more unacceptable is how Toyota hasn't bothered to offer a light, affordable and efficient pickup
2
Have you forgotten about Renault??
2
A plug in hybrid Maverick is left wanting
2
GarysEconomics and others have been blowing this whistle for years. Market Failure What else do you expect from an oversaturation of Crossover SUVs and full sized pick ups while the likes of the Ford Fiesta become "unprofitable" as inflation reduced the value of said profits - inflation caused by rampant profiteering from crossover-SUVs to food and housing. A 2008 repeat is coming and another wealth transfer to the wealthy is all that's in store for all of us. EVs are only a fool's scapegoat.
1
There's a bunch of stories of people buying a second hand Prius from older folks who can't fix because of the dealership, buy it for dirt cheap, fixing/replacing a gas tank, water pump, battery fan, reconditioning their battery or getting a new rebuild. And they drive off laughing.
1
The Ioniq 5 was an SUV all along.... What a surprise.
1
Western markets are creating its own downfall, just when Chinese brands, who dominate affordable EVs are coming into the picture. When the Japanese and Korean brands who have gone the profitable route will see what's what.
1
Richard Wolff can tell you that market failures are symptoms of a wider macroeconomic problem of a diminishing consumer confidence on top of years of socioeconomic malaise pressed by a squeeze of inflation created by the desperation of multi-industry business practice of prioritising all profits to shareholders over internal investment, profits that are less valuable YoY by the very inflation that profiteering creates... It's just another giant financial bubble and it will come to harm many but a surprise to nobody. Ford ought to focus a lot more in its Maverick pickup instead of pretending it doesn't exist for not being as profitable as the larger products. It needs more base trims, more production capacity, more advertising, more hybrid options such as AWD and a plugin battery. Hell, a light pickup EV Maverick would be way more appealing than an F150 lightning for the majority of people.
