Minus the $7500 Federal tax credit and various state credits.

15 years too late yes

Friendly reminder Toyota could've brought this 5 years ago. That PHEV battery, that 2.0l hybrid from the EU Corrolla since 2018. But instead of an accessible and practical design, Toyota gambled on the "sexy prius" meme. Whilst Japan still has the Aqua or Prius C, they hybrid Ford Fiesta they insost western markets don't want 🙄

It's almost as if no one could've predicted that market crashes consistently happen - especially when said market owners just zoned in 110% on maximising profit and stock buy backs with garbage premium crossovers with crap that puts Chinese EVs at peast a decade ahead.
1
Other way around. It's the trend of fat, over excess and many of the flaws of new cars - that at best comes with a series-parallel hybrid (Prius style) drivetrain

If only they used a Bolt, would be the closest thing to an original Civic in a long time...

Was certain that GM was going to repeat the same mistakes that led itself into the 2008 crash. If they're still going to price a sub conpact (and the rest of its lineup) out of reach of a consumer market that's becoming more squeezed, then they're still not immune to a shock to the economy (external or of its own making) Japanese brands are in an even worse position. Only the chinese evs seemed to be planned and ready for accessible ev ownership. Buckle up

Hype crack babies

Ford, what's so difficult about an AWD diff locking Maverick hybrid/PHEV/EV? We dont get the sensible Maverick here in Europe but every boss and their son are rolling around in 3.6l V6 Raptor trophy trucks with their depreciation written off the company's tax each year.

This is what's called a market failure and it won't stop at Nissan, that is the arms race of profiteering for Crossover-SUVs and Pickups and not investing and diversifying years ago. Why do you think there's so much fear mongering over Chinese EVs that are simply more competitive?
1
Superior normie box... If nobody can recognise how even the Japanese brands are going down the same dead end path that was the 2008 crash - no one should act surprised in the coming years. Toyota thinks it's ok to close factories in china, blame EVs for being inferior to other EVs, and then pivots to promote obnoxious luxury ships that are most profitable to sell
1
Toyota is clearly window dressing for years now and squeezing profit margins that are no longer sustainable, while BYD is eating their lunch in Asia, Europe and Australia/NZ
1
Not profitable enough🤷
1
Yeah it's a premium "hot" hatch that's the least practical and least affordable Prius yet At least it's not another crossover-SUV....

Or should dealers be threatened to have their greedy hands chopped off - metaphorically
1
@vlonen8926 no... Don't be daft. The race of premium crossovers has created a problem for the market (less choice and inflation shrinking prospective (and poorer) consumers) They set the prices. Profit gouging begets inflation. Inflation reduces the value of profits, therefore more greedy price increases. See the picture? This is macroeconomic.

Economics is a certain form of brain damage
1
So why are they worried about BYD?

Market failure and malaise. Economic collapses are a feature of capitalism not a bug. US and European industries cannot spit their dummies out of the pram and blame EVs, downscaling and decarbonization for their own blindsughted failure of chasing profits and dividends at all costs at the expense of R&D Investment, worker investments and the industries' external costs upon socioeconomic factors involved being a citizen and the worker of those self enriching, failing companies. Make a Ford Maverick EV or PHEV and watch. Hell, they killed the Fiesta in Europe too, that it's too expensive and that nobody wants "small cars" anymore or hybrids or evs because that's what we're told to believe since those profit margins and dividends made out of premium crossover-SUVs and surplus labour is a businessman's no-brainer . Especially when said profit margins weaken in value against inflation, inflation caused by this market failure beliebing that there's sustainable market demand for $40,000-$80,000 statement pieces while neglecting the entry level market and variety of choice.
