Not just the Germans, but most Western Automakers were warned that the more they delay in investing into R&D, the more expensive it'll be to remain competitive. Toyota and Mazda are the most infamous anti-ev players and they compromised themselves. The incompetence of executives shouldn't be defended and bailed out, like the bankers of 2008. The excuse was that there would never be any market demand for electric vehicles, or hybrids +15 years ago. That's why they all try to manipulate and lobby law makers, they're fundamentally anti-demicratic in our societies, only wanting to sell us what's most profitable for them - diesel premium SUVs. But the writing and legislation was on the wall for over a decade and now they're frantic, not just because of Tesla but because BYD and other Chinese brand have mass-adoptable/affordable EVs that Tesla isn't bothered to make...

Poor Volkswagen *executives and shareholders
224
More is yet to come, gradually and overwhelmingly. The true arsonists being oil companies, other industries, shareholders, conservative law makers and the capitalist ecomomy that worships ecomomic growth unsustainably will be to blame.
62
Yes, we're all coloured with envy here in Europe
56
Clearly neocolonial interests, world rules based order, capitalism, etc etc. Our economies in the west are fragile and vulnerable to collapse if they don't grow, have to keep expanding growth and profit and have control over commodity prices of raw materials Or "recession"

@TheNewAgeCreater part of the 99%
29
They're all paid clowns playing the game
27
@Nom_AnorVSJedi You didn't forget Aptera? I've followed the EV scene long enough to recognise the difference between sustainable innovation, and investor opportunism and an obsession for wealth. And to be honest, given that Tesla is much more of a silicon valley company and a favourite pump-dump stock than it is an EV company, it has a very tall perch to fall from and Chinese EVs will push it. Resource hungry status symbols are not going to do well in the future. A modern day Citroën 2CV would be a killer.
26
And because of them, Palestine will set us Free
26
Volkswagen's diesels still chugging along, but now with added forest fires
24
That doesn't even explain the tip of the ice berg. Better temp durability, flexibility, storage longevity and cycle life
23
China has the products today that's key to decarbonisation. From truly affordable EVs, micromobility to Solar panels. The tariffs and protectionism from the EU is a bitter step in the wrong direction, for the political act of protecting the consistent, fraudulent shortsightedness of VW Automotive Group chairmen, executives, and so on. The workers and local economy of Europe's automotive chain industry should be protected far more than the executives and investors who squandered oppertunities and drove them and their company into oily dirt. They are dead weight
23
Why is Canada in the news, something to do with applauding a 98 years old SS volunteer?
21
Railways are much better use of money and recourses than an expensive length of tarmac.
18
Austerity and starving the people and putting them against one another. The Great British way
17
Hawaii is in the tropics, wild fires are unusual, same thing with the fires that devastated the blue mountains in eastern Australia. There wasn't enough fire fighters and funding for these areas, let alone enough to anticipate climate disasters. It's climate change, it's political and economic vandalism on nature. Indigenous peoples are the ones who warned of the damage, who know the solutions and are those must vulnerable to disasters after decades of genocide. Just heard that over 100 had died. That's criminal and we know who the criminals are, they have careers in fossil fuels, laws and politics, they have names and addresses.
16
*Executives squandered the oppertunity If Volkswagen was organised by its workers, they wouldn't be in this situation. They wouldn't've made the diesel emissions cheats in the first place
15
That's what Ireland and the UK governments have done! Look at the absolute state of things here!
14
Our economies will shatter without this kind of exploitation And no one in politics (EPP, ALDE) will entertain listening to the flaws of their precious ideology economics
13
Neoliberalism Austerity Wealth Transfer Just like after 2008
12
They're at it again
12
It's predominantly an economic political organisation. Just the economic benefit is for wealthy neocolonialists
12
Easy for you to say
12
Conforming consent by censorship of omission?
12
Bad direction. Your argument is what VW, Kia and Hyundai are already doing that, they're trying to establish themselves as premium brands because it's the only way to achieve high and competitive profit margins and keep it at a distance from inflation. That's why there's very few affordable city cars and any examples left are more expensive than every before
11
Everyone shrugged at the Panama papers leak, and its whistleblower murdered by a car bomb
11
Sodium ion does have every place in transportation today and are better energy density performance of lithium ion less than a decade ago. From affordable EVs to mixed chemistry batteries. Don't underestimate
11
Interesting that the thumbnail of the video features a Plug in Hybrid Prius Something that Toyota had tried its utmost to delay, obscure and undermine as it was forced to make compliance cars to meet emissions regulations for over a decade.
11
@holycow343 check out Who Killed The Electric car. Two faced, back stabbing politics against EVs of the 90s/2000s.
10
Replace big farmers with Oil companies and you still get the same sad story
10
It's no difference here. Same nationalist pressures apply. What's different is that Chinese electric vehicles have been planned and invest a decade in advance. Western automakers, including Toyota and other Asian brands have squandered that time to prepare and invest. Petrol and Diesel SUVs were most profound and that's what they did for over a decade. Pretending that there was no demand for electrification until too late
10
"British isles"? Who are you kidding this day and age?
10
@INTJ791 The liberal party in the coalition is creating all the contradictions
10
Military adventurism more than once brought Empires to their end...
10
"Diesel good"
10
I'd rather a democratic EU with good faith relationships with South America and the Carribbean But that's only possible when toxic US (and other colonial) chains are broken.
9
You use the word "competitive" to hide the reality that is exploitation. A little history goes a long way in explaining why things are the way they are
9
A right self determination, not just a county or government, but by and for the people of that nation
8
Reckless regulations here in Europe also impede so much potential in DIY and community scale microgeneration
8
That's what competitive colonisers do, they both say they're bringing freedom to the occupied
8
The large profitable farminging industrial interests in Ireland or the IFA have an awful lot to answr for, for their constant manufacturing of fear and disinformation
8
small group: Capital owners and investors Say that
8
CIA?
8
That's already the reality. Depending on the shipping company, Most batteries and EVs can't be shipped with a state of charge above 20%
7
The *DUP my man. Thats where this mess has lied on. The DUP jumped into a coalition with the Tories to avoid a legal inquirey over their responsibility of a scandalous "green energy" scheme, where there was a 170% incentive (money given) to burn chipwood, which ended up with hundreds of open barns and factory warehouses burning as much wood as they could to make money. Arlene Foster, DUP leader refused to step down for the inquiry and Stormont government collapsed over 2 years ago. Then the DUP accepted a £1 billion deal from May to form a coalition. The DUP were the ones that dragged the negotiations back in 2017 and 2018. The DUP were the ones to stretch the backtop from just Northern Ireland to the whole UK. It's the DUP
7
Isolation means isolation from the west, not from the rest. This arrogance will snowball and backfire into hubris
7
@davidk.d.7591 🎯🎯🎯 exactly Toyota squandered over a decade of opportunities, hybrids, plugin hybrids and full elecrics. Their BZ electric crossover is a painful joke. They seriously jeopardized Japan's economy
7
Diesels especially
7
@wiseass2149 they'll never learn until it affects them personally

@sirati9770 held captive by petty capitalist politics
